Voodoo Lily bloom WOW

Orlando, FL

I just have to share, this is my Voodoo Lily in bloom. I have had the bulb planted 3+ years, finally I get a bloom. Well worth waiting for. The bloom is just over 15 inches tall, with no leaves at all. It smells like 2 day old road kill. You should see my dogs trying to figure it out. Hilarious. I have had so much fun with this flower the last 2 days. Oh what a fun thing to own. I do hope that the flower does not smell to long is my only complaint.

Those plants grow huge in their native habitat. I dont know the proper name but the smell is legend.

How cool! I've heard they smell like dead feet.

LOL ge -- I think the 'smell' you're looking for is carrion. The only feet I know of that smell like that are attached to my ex. I wonder if he'd even notice its fragrant bloom... ?

A spectacular sight to be sure. Thanks for sharing, Moofie!

It smelled so bad the first day, that is would gag you if the wind changed. The second day was not nearly as bad, third day barely smelled. Now it is just about gone. I read the leaves will come up and get seeds from there. Something else to look forward to.

Mine is just starting to come up now. Looks like yours is in a pot. Maybe you can move it next to your annoying neighbors back door!

I recall years ago one of the DG members posting a picture of her's with a vulture perched nearby. It apparently came down looking for that road kill. I wish I could find it again, it was "precious".

I can send you some Stapelia so that you can almost enjoy the scent year round. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/59151/

My daughter was just asking me about that the other day, how funny.
