What is best about the Winter solstice?
Definitely looking forward to more daylight.
Same here, more sunlight. So far, that seems to be the definite winner.
Like a plant, I thrive on sunlight.
Hmmm...seems to be a trend in the making....
Yah, longing for more of that sunshine. ^_^
Yep, a trend for sure.
I'm telling you, after more than a day or two w/o sunshine I start to wither noticeably.
Been there, done that! :(
Bring on the sunshine!
Clearly no vampires in this crowd.
For me it means snow will actually hit and stay for awhile. I want more snow!! LOL. I like the sunshine part too but I don't mind shorter days. lol
Defiantly glad to see the days lengthening.
Even though I used one of those full spectrum lights here on my computer desk, I still celebrate the fact that the days are getting longer - regardless of how small the daily increments might be.
LOL!! Looks like I'm the only one so far looking forward to putting 2010 in the rear view mirror!!!
2010 in the rear view ain't bad but I need the warmth of spring.
My fingers don't claw through ice very well, so bring on the sunshine, I have my first catalog!!!!!!! an my snow blower broke down.
I am just about ready to start my spring seeds. I have a new grow light arriving soon. We have had another horrible winter with freezing temps, so I don't look forward to the winters as much as I used to here.
It means it's almost Christmas!!
I voted for: "Time to think about new gardens/plants for next year"
I enjoy looking through the seed catalogs that are arriving daily this time of year. I always send in my seed orders during the first week of January.
I was born and raised in England, so am used to not having too much sunshine.
Here's a photo of my hometown.
What a lovely village!
Thanks for sharing!
I marked "other" because I'm looking for to my trip to Calif to see my son and grandson and than when I get back we'll be getting our new home put on the property so not much gardening going on here next year, but watch out for the following year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of the above!
That's a beautiful place, Honeybee!! ^_^
It means it's my birthday!
Happy Birthday, flaflwrgrl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Thank you marti!
More Sun! Giggedy goo!
Sun is good, but not the end-all for me. Daylight is what I'm looking forward to.
flaflwrgrl, Happy Birthday! If you put your birthday on your profile, you'll automatically come up next year for the 'official DG birthday greeting'. :)
I'm looking forward to it NOT being dark at 6pm any more!

I voted for the new gardens/plants. I will enjoy the longer days also, but until then I like looking at all the garden catalogues, and getting a lot of rest before Spring gets here.
I'm not a Spring Chicken anymore. LOL
Like the picture of your home town Honeybee.
I watch HGTV- and sometimes they have house hunter's international on. I see some people from England on there, looking for homes in Paris or Spain, because of the weather. They say it rain's a lot in England, or it's to foggy.
HoneybeeNC, where is this town located?
KyWoods
I'm looking forward to it not being dark at 4PM!
flaflwrgrl
It was my dad's BD too. He didn't like it much because he usually just got one present as it was so near to Christmas.
To me it means NEW YEARS EVE!!
OH, my, 4pm in your country, that does bite, patgeorge!
Longer days, I hate getting up at 7: AM and it's still dark!!!
And Happy Birthday KyWoods! Best wishes for many more.
I'm voting
Days are getting longer and I want more sunshine!
and maybe I'll come back a few more times to vote for it again...
day after day....
until I am satisfied.
So there! 8 )
LOL Thanks, podster, I had sunshine, nearly 50 degrees (warm for here!) and the snow is nearly gone, so I had a very happy birthday!
Now that I understand!
I have restrained myself from whining about shorter, darker and colder days this fall and feel that I was rewarded when the first day of winter ~ the famed winter solstice ~ was 83° and sunny. Life IS good!
patgeorge, I always hated it growing up because I never got birthday paper with so much Christmas paper around AND my present usually got put under the tree & because it was in Xmas paper she would get mixed up as to which one was for my B-Day so I had to "pick 1" from under the tree. Far to late, when I became an adult, I realized:
You know how you always get antsy a few days before Xmas to open a gift? I GET TO!
Now why couldn't someone have put it to me that way when I was a kid?
Thanking everyone for the birthday wishes.
kiseta very pretty, and good idea
Flaflwrgrl Happy Birthday and you are right about when you were younger people should have put Birthday paper on your gift.
and how do people find out when someone has a Birthday on Dave's Garden?
"Happy New Year" Everyone and may "2011" be much better than "2010"

If you look on the right side of your DG homepage, you'll see the birthday list of the day. Click on the link right below the names, and it will bring you to the birthday forum. Here is today's birthday thread, and you can start your own for a certain friend if you like:
