I'm a newbie to growing lilies. I planted some asiatics and a few oriental lilies late winter/early spring. They bloomed just fine and died down. While looking around my flower beds, I notice that some have already begun to sprout. Is that normal for this time of the year? Won't a freeze hurt them? What should I do?
Help! Lily Sprouts
Are you seeing little green leaflets at the base of the stems? Not to worry, you're probably having babies! Particularly on the asiatics, they produce stem bulblets that sometimes sprout a bit. You don't need to do anything at all ~ they'll be fine.
Whew! That's a relief. They are babies. I couldn't figure out what was going on as so many strange things have been happening in the garden this year. Thanks.
It has been a strange year, indeed. :)
