Last year I had absolutely no blooms because it never got hot enough over the summer. This year, with crazy hot temperatures and heat indexes, this guy is going absolutely crazy!! There are buds everywhere!!
Just thought I'd share a shot of a few that are starting out. Just love this vine!!
My Vigna Caracalla is starting to really put on a show!
Very pretty! The two plants I had, planted in the ground, died this past winter.
Oh no! Losing these vines would be worthy of tears!!
Awesome.
I can not imagine my summer garden without my Vigna caracalla... Enjoy!
me either, mine are blooming like crazy now also.
I have seen those in catalogues and wondered if the pictures were for real or were touched-up.
Can you use them as cut flowers? Do you have to treat them as annuals?
They don't have long stems, and don't last long in water either, but the fragrance on the vine is out of this world! I believe you can lift hte plant to overwinter it.
Hardiness zone is 9 a onward. It's hardy for me and I'm borderline 9a/b ( except last winter when we were more like zone 8a/b !)
They don't come back till the weather warms up considerable tho. I'm going to keep an extra in a pot over the winter to see if I can get it started back sooner.
Yes, you can lift and store for the winter or grow in a greenhouse.
I think I read somewhere that the blooms can be eaten. Is this true?
Does it need full sun or can it take a little shade?
I have it in a spot where it gets full sun from the morning until mid-afternoon.
I can do that! I'm getting one!
Cool beans! I just discovered 5 seedpods! :)
This is the first time I've seen them. Those are fantastic! I need more smells good looks good vines. :)
Has anyone tried to grow this indoors as a tropical?
I brought 3 indoors overwinter and they are growing like crazy now that the sun is coming in /days are getting longer. There is another long thread about V. caracalla on DG. Might find answers there too.
