I have never seen anything like the Nepalense. How beautiful!

Too bad this is not in focus, but I like the shot anyway. The first couple of L.superbums that opened this year went from white in the nectaries to a deep red like the skin of a peach.

L. philadelphicum 5 29 2010

I didn't expect these to bloom the first year let along in May!
Now I have grown three of the four species which are native to Michigan, just L. canadense has not yet flowered for me, (I just planted them last fall).

under the heading "Be Careful What You Wish For" : My quest for species lily bulbs led me to lilyseed.com and, getting no response I tried the phone, which led to a snail mail order. I wasn't sure what I might receive, I gave her a pretty lengthy wish list. Well, she filled it and much more. I received 7 new-to-me Western NA species and four hybrids of W. NA species, totaling over 50 bulb!!
I had my first success with Western NA species last year, (first time I'd tried), when the L. parryi bloomed, so...wish me luck with the L. parvum; L. wigginsii; L. humboldtii; etc. (photo of L. wigginsii from lilyseed.com)
What else have people planted this fall, species lily-wise?

Well, my story with lilyseed.com (Rainbow) is still on going. But your posting might help me. I purchased several pak of lily seeds back in April. They confirmed the order and payment but as of this date haven't heard from them or any replies to e-mails. Maybe there is still hope....
