I picked up some foxtail palm seeds from a friend's tree. They were still on the tree, rather large, but still a dark green. Will these germinate or do they need to stay on the three until they turn orange? What's the best way to try to germinate? I'm thinking I have to take off the outer soft tissue to get to the harder seed inside.

Mine fall from the tree and just germinate on top of the ground. Removing the soft tissue would probably help, but I don't know about the green seed's viability.
I was afraid of that. The seeds come from a tree that is at my boss' house and he is selling his house at the end of the month. I've never seen another foxtail palm around here with seed pods. I hope they ripen before he signs the contract!
picking them early will not work.
Well crud! Thanks for the info!
