What is the latin name for the evergreen oak...... Quercus.....? Viginiana? Is this it? How fast does it grow?

There are many forms of evergreen oaks , not just one . Were you just looking for the Q. Virginiana ??? I would check out the Nut Growers Web site for more feedback regarding growth rate . Best to you!!

Thanks Chooch - I love the evergreen oaks but I don't know which to grow - clay soil, somewhat acid, windy hot site (awful eh!). I want to create a buffer against the wind and set one of these trees in my front lawn. And not wait too long for it to grow :-)

Hi Louisa,

Quercus virginia is not hardy where you live. It would need a very protected location and definitely not good for a screen.

OK Sally, thanks for that. Maybe you can come up with a suggestion - it would be appreciated. I do see many evergreen magnolias growing here though.
