Sweet Peas & Bloom Length Question

I'm in zone 5 and planting on planting a number of sweet peas in a few places. My question is how long do the plants flower for you (particularly for zone 5ers). I plan on dead-heading them to try to prolong the bloom. How early do they die back and/or start to look raggedy? I want to train some up an obelisk in a mixed perennial/annual bed but don't want to if they'll conk out midsummer and leave a unsightly hole in the picture =P
