ANNUAL VINES DEER AND WOODCHUCK RESISTANT

Syracuse, NY

Can you recommend any critter-proof vines? Scarlet runner, moonflower, sweet pea, morning glory have all been eaten. Would like recommendation for flowering annual vine that is not on the menu of these mammals.

garyon, I feel your pain. In 2007 we built a garden with an 8' fence.

I grow most of my vines in that "deer resistant" garden, but I have grown Black-Eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia) and Cup and Saucer Vine (Cobaea scandens) near the house and have not had any munching on them. The Thunbergia is available at nurseries here (although I grew mine from seed because I wanted "Blushing Susie") but I had to grow the Cup and Saucer vines from seed. Here is a pic of it. It is a large flower but it did not bloom until fairly late in the season. These are both annuals although Thunbergia did seed about some and came up in unexpected places the next year.
