Kyle...wa'fo u no be hea? Howzit? Wasup? How's life in the Arctic?.... Was thinking about putting a fire in the fireplace mesef! We have been having the first rains in over 3 weeks and everything was just hanging on, bamboos losing leaves etc.... So tomorrow when we walk around I know we will have blooms and growth and everything will be singing 'mahalo, auntie' 'mahalo, onca '... Everything just looks so 'perky'....haha.
Hey, I do feel for you!!!! Just want you to feel better.....
Aloha nui loa,

Tropical Gardens
I feel for you too Kyle!! We had over a foot on the ground. It's finally starting to melt though. Hang in there!! Warm air is headed your way!!
Pepper 41 F here today...YEEEEHAWWW snow is melting...at least off the streets!! :-)
Kyle :-)
We got a few degrees higher than that. LOL. It felt GREAT!!
Kyle it was only 46 here at midday yesterday and I have had hard freezes for the first time at location. Our soil temp has dropped to 44 and it never went below 55 here in the past. The garage is filled with plants, the house is filled with plants, there are "tents" set up over plants with a lamp inside for heat and I have those seed starter heat mats on my deck with pots sitting on them with blankets over the whole thing. This is really getting old. It looks like Halloween in the neighborhood, everybody has sheets and blankets over their plants and they look like little ghosts.
Ardesia, what you are explaining about protecting the plants from the cold is very touching! we dont have to do that in the tropics so I just start thinking about my garden and all the blankets that I will need to do to protect them.
Ardesia, we have a thick blanket of snow this year so the ground temp is still in the mid 30's great for my conifers I planted in early Dec. I'm just scared to look at the rabbit damage in the spring!! :-(
Our winter was the coldest in years and set many new records.
Kyle:-)
P.S. Costa Rica sounds wonderful about now. I could raise macaws in the back yard!
Eclipse, in that case I will suggest that you visit Corcovado National Park, there is a big population of Scarlet Macaws. When I was in the beach a bunch of them came to visit a beach Almond tree. Macaw's like these fruits.
This was our coldest winter on record I believe and I am ready to go to Costa Rica with you. :-)
Costa Rica is really neat!!! Without a doubt the cleanest country I have every been to (1995)...We drove around the country for a week and saw ONE styrofoam cup beside the road. ONE!!!!
Yes you all are welcome to come to Costa Rica. About pollution I would like to say that CR is very clean but still we are working on that issue amongst others. We are beginning our dry season also our vacation. So everybody want to go to the beach. My favorite is Corcovado National Park (piece of heaven), but faraway from Atenas, the town where I live.
My favorite closer Botanical Garden: Else Kientzler Botanical Garden, in my FB I have a lot of pictures of this place, I will post some of the pictures of this beautiful garden.
I keep learning about plants, culture and different facts in this forum. Gracias!
Bignonia
And Gracias to you too, we would love to see pictures of these gardens. My neice has been to Costa Rica and tells me it is a lovely place.
Aw, thats a cute picture!!!
while you guys are freezing, i am enjoying verrrry hot weather!! our usual temps 100F to 110F.
Near my house sometimes the toucans visit some fruit trees..

Beautiful!!!!!
Really nice!! I have that same heliconia, nice to know which one it is.
Bignonia, don't know if that Water Hyacinth is native to your area but in most of the world it's a declared noxious weed. It looks really nice, just a pity it spreads so fast.
I have a Heliconia which looks like that, might be the same species.
Looks like Colocasia in that last photo, they look really good.
Water Hyacinth is originally from South America. It;s true that it can be a big problem in some areas. Although I really like it.
Colocasia "Black Magic" I bought some plants of it, but it needs a lot of humidity. So it dies. But during the wet season It will grow back. It s really a beautiful plant , leaves almost black color. Sometimes the leaves can keep tiny drops of water, so these drops give to the leaves a different color.
Loved your pictures!

Thank you for posting that link, i had no idea this was going on!! if any of you guys decide that you are going to leave this site if it changes too much, please tell me!
isaac
Could you share what is going on for those of us who are not members and can't access those posts?
So far all that has happened is that the company that Dave sold DG to, a few years back and he still ran DG, ... that company sold DG to another company who, upon second thought, asked Dave to stay on. No one knows the capacity in which he will serve, not even Dave!!! The thread (now 2 of them) is full of folks telling the new owner how great Dave and DG is and that they will revolt if Dave goes "No Dave No DG" Responses from Dave are 'thanks' no responses from the new owners. But if they are smart they won't change a thing!!!
No need to panic...the dust hasn't started to settle....
Carol
Carol,
You are amazing. You just condensed 2 days of reading into one paragraph. Way to go!
Hap
Thank you. I'm so glad I didn't have to read it all as well.
It's so on-going, I'm afraid to leave the computer. LOL
Hap
I really think, on those threads, that everything that needs to be said has been said... If anything new happens, Dave is going to start a new thread, I am sure!!!
I hope so :(
Yesterday he answered a lot of questions. Very interesting!!!
