I forget which variety I have now, A. canadensis I think, and I don't know what the previous one was.
My tree blooms nicely but the berries get a orange colored covering that sticks out from the berry like lots of little hairs or bristles. I have never gotten to taste a serviceberry. This is my second tree. The first was bought 100 miles west of Charlotte NC where I lived then. When we moved to Raleigh, I bought a new one at the U of NC State's hort. club sale. The first year it bloomed, it got the same orange things on the berries. I meant to take photos of it last Spring but I forgot.
I don't know that I would spray but I wondered at least if you knew what caused the disease and what to do.

Serviceberry disease or fungus
Gymnosporangium rusts (Cedar Apple rust and its relatives) might be a possible cause. Check out this site:

I have not seen this on my Juneberries. Sulphur and other appropriate antifungals may help.
