December Daily Weather - Tis the Season Part 2
Happy Birthday, Marilyn!!!
I love the ice decorations, kiska!!
E_B, I think it's weird that we got December snow before you, too! LOL That will probably be all we get this year, although it's still early...
Bernie, eeek, a blizzard! brrrr.... I had to walk home from school in a mini-blizzard once in Ohio. It brought back a lot of memories of reading Laura Ingalls Wilder books about people getting lost in blizzards... Since I was in town where the wind was blocked by all of the buildings, and we had good sidewalks, it wasn't scary at all except for crossing roads. It was actually a lot of fun, and I was sorry when I got to my house (about a mile and a quarter from school.) I wouldn't have wanted to do it out in the country or with a colder windchill, though!
It's going to be warm today and tomorrow and then another chilly front is coming through Wednesday night. No snow this time, though.

Sharon - thanks! Good to hear Gary's doing fine, I was thinking about him the other day :-)
Marylyn - I LOVED the Laura Ingalls Wilder books .... I have them all! :-) I always think of them when I hear/read the word "blizzard" ;-) lol Unfortunately they're in english so I can't read them to the girls. I borrowed the Icelandic translations at the library and read them to Selma when she was Hildur Eva's age ..... need to borrow them again to read them to Hildur Eva too.
Kiska - LOVE the Ice decorations, I think they are so neat! Wish I could make them here ..... without the extreme frost you have .... a steady 30°F for a few weeks would do it ;-) lol
I finally remembered to bring the camera along when I went to the pool so here's a photo from this morning just after 11 am (around sunrise).
Rann
Rann love the scenery pictures! It's just rain rain rain and mid 40's all day with thunderstorms this afternoon. Goodie Goodie Gum Drops!

The powerful storm system emerging on the central Plains today will bring the threat for severe weather to areas from Louisiana and eastern Arkansas into Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.
These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds over 50 mph, hail and isolated tornadoes. These storms will also produce torrential rainfall that will lead to flash flooding in many locations to be prepared to act quickly if these storms impact your area.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mau!!!!!
Have a WONDERFUL Day!
Rann that's beautiful!
I notice there are no waves or at least not the big waves I was expecting.
Are the girls taking English?
If so how about having them read to you.
Maybe some Christmas children's books..... w/ animals.... lol!
We saw a clip on Puffins this morning and in searching them
I ran across this Iceland in Winter Travel Video.
Sorry there's a commercial but....
hit HD and let the entire video download then Full Screen it and Play.
GORGEOUS!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY , MARYLIN! Have a wonderful day!
You and your granddaughter are looking so great together! What are your plans for today?
Rann, great pics!
Ric, Sally, I don't have a name day. They are only for those who have the name of a saint. Romanians are very religious and we have many celebrations of all saints. It almost became a tradition to name our children with the name of a saint, to have more celebrations in a year : one being the birthday and the other one the name day which is the saint's day. Most people are giving their children 2 names and one is almost always of a saint. I only gave them one name, but they are both of saints : Andreea, from St. Andrew and Ionut from St. John. I hope this makes sense!LOL
Kelli, great pics from your hiking!
Kiska, beautiful view with all that snow and ice decorations!
E_B, thanks for explaining about the paint, so cool! The picture is cool too!
Sharon, thanks for starting a new thread for us! Your tree is gorgeous!
Celia, ROTFLOL! They are too cute, poor kitties!LOL
Still warm, but cloudy. 43 during the day , 28 at night.

This is what happens here if you do not disconnect & drain your water hose and also shut off the valve from inside before winter sets in. This is a few houses from mine. We installed a frost free valve last summer, which also helps prevent this from happening.
It's very cold and snowy today. Whomever is East of me will get it soon.

Nice video Ric :-) The mountain in the background in the beginning is Mt. Esja. The golden circle consists of Gullfoss (Golden Falls), the Geysir hot springs area and Thingvellir. And then there's the Blue Lagoon of course .... those are the standard tourist destinations ;-) Ofcourse, Hafnarfjörður is definately worth a visit too ;-) lol
Celia and Joanna - BRrrrrrrrr. Like the snow shot Celia :-) We're hoping for snow again soon ;-)
It was fairly calm around noon when I took the photos so the sea wasn't very choppy. It started raining this afternoon and the wind has picked up a bit. Too lazy to figure out the wind speed ;-) lol Now dark again.
Rann
Wow Kelli! Hope your plants will be OK! :-s
Thank you for the kind birthday wishes, everyone! and thanks for the compliments about my granddaughter, Kate. She is beautiful on the inside, too. :o))
Sharon, thanks for the new thread--lovely beginning photo and very pretty Hib, too. So glad that Gary is doing so well!
Celia: gorgeous yellow rose!
Rann: lovely photos from you, too.
Kiska: I always enjoy your ice sculptures.
Ric: I will check out that link in a few minutes.
Adina: My daughter and her husband took me out to eat last night for my birthday. I was planning on spending today on the road on my way home but the weather is nasty so I am going to wait until tomorrow. My daughter and I have made some chicken/rice soup so that will be my birthday dinner today. :o))
Joanna: I assume the hose split open and let the water escape which is what made the waterfall? Do your pipes ever freeze inside your walls?
Kelli: I'm amazed at your low temp!
Currently:

cool and clear.
Happy Birthday, Marilyn~it's probably a good idea to wait another day for the weather to improve.
kelli~amazing pics- my sister, Sac-Valley, has snow in her yard, in Wilton; it's a few miles SE of Sacramento.
Adina~love the flowers' brightness and beauty.
kwanjin~cold and snowy is good this time of year, if you're ready, isn't it?
jbanana~very impressive ice-sculpture your neighbor's have-too bad it's unplanned.
rann~nice seeing the photos, old and new.
ric~a bit of wild weather in your area-seems it does fluctuate; must keep you on your toes as to what to wear outdoors.
crissy~rain and wind; must be winter everywhere:)
Marylyn~wow-snow there, too.
MySharona~thanks for the new thread-nice seeing that Gary is doing well. Love your photo.
Adina it makes perfect sense to me.
My BIL is Greek and his name is Emmanouill (Emmanuel) and his Name Day is Christmas.
My Grandfather and Uncle were Thomas and Oct 6th was theirs.
My Mom Ann's was Dec 6th.
Kelli you were colder than us.
Great Shots!
Looks pretty Celia!
Joann you were WAY colder than anyone! LOL!
It was fairly nice outside till the rains started about 2 PM.
Temps in the 40's and calm.
The rain actually started as ice pellets but that only lasted about 15 minutes.
All the old windows are plastic covered and the cracks foamed.
My 'newer' windows we used metal tape and sealed the seams.
Put the layer of plastic back over the new door.
I need to do some threshold work and it can be done from the inside tomorrow.
We're going to leave the door up between the Kitchen and the Sewing Room.
No reason to heat it at this point as we still have drywall to hang.
It's staying about 55° out there w/ the one vent open so...
They are still calling for the bad winds so I'd say tomorrow will be totally indoors.
Ric
We have 8" of snow and it finally stopped.
Snowing.
kwanjin~didn't stop for too long, it seems:)
LOL
Finally below freezing (34 for a high) and snowing here at the house. It rained all day and at times became freezing rain or sleet. It will all freeze overnight and if roads aren't treated it will be a mess. Winds will be high tomorrow so will have to deal with blowing snow. How bad it will be depends on the amount of snow we get. Tomorrow I don't think we are expected to get out of the teeens with wind chills below 0. Will take camera with me to work if I can get out of here and take a few pics.
1941 Willy
Love the globe Kelli!
That will be blooming for quite a while.
Pepper the Willy's are one of my favorite coupes.
That little beauty is about only 80k+ . You need two of them!
I had a 1955 Willys 4 x 4 Truck for years.
We used it as a work truck.
You just can't kill them!
Raining here but it's moving out.
Temps dropped into the 30's for a bit but are now on the rise.
That's the Southern Storm moving thru...
The one hitting the Plains States will pop thru tomorrow.
Still projecting the winds.
6 AM til 1 AM Thursday
A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE OHIO VALLEY ON WEDNESDAY.
VERY STRONG WINDS WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA WEDNESDAY AND CONTINUE INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING.
SOUTHWEST TO WESTERLY WINDS WILL BE IN THE 30 MPH TO 40 MPH RANGE WITH WIND GUSTS NEAR 60 MPH POSSIBLE.
I saw on the news they are predicting 25' waves in Chicago.
That's higher than the waves there during the storm that took out the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975..
On the lighter side....... they have issued an Inflatable Santa Warning..... lol!
Ric
Inflatable Santa Warning.........love it!! LOL
LOLOL!
never heard an inflatable Santa warning till
now---ROFLOL
the winds are really picking up here and they are saying the low tonight will be 25F and the high tomorrow will just be 29F--that's for the Harrison area--don't know what the forecast is for the Cabot area but I will be keeping a close eye on things because if the wind doesn't dry up the roads before this temp drops then things will start freezing and the roads are likely to be covered with ice. Hopefully, they won't be, though, because I really need to go home--have things to do there.
When my granddaughter Kate found out I was going to be here another day she drove down here from where she lives in Branson, MO (about 45 miles) to take me out to supper. Just the two of us went out together and we had a lovely time. Finished off the evening with a brownie sundae topped with hot fudge and caramel---Yummy!!
Here you go Mau.
Looks like clear and near 40 Weds and Thurs in Cabot.
And this warning.
strong storm will move from the central plains into the upper
midwest overnight and midday wednesday. high pressure will build
in quickly behind the departing storm and the difference in
pressure between these systems will produce winds of 15 to 25 mph
across most of the forecast area, with higher gusts.
the winds will be initially from the southwest but shift to more
of a west to northwest direction behind a cold front that will
move across the state overnight.
the winds will begin to decrease late wednesday afternoon as the
high moves in and the storm system pulls away.
I have most people here on MyCast....
Ric

Be careful out there in those storms~my grandson is attending CCollege in Mason, Iowa; he says school was closed today; but that it seems strange to close due to snow. Here, it closes if it rains during the winter.
Loved the pics and posts~
It appears everyone here in the USA and parts of Canada except kiska will get something out of this Mega Storm.
It started on the West Coast and basically hit it from top to bottom.
The snow part has tapered off west of us.
We are still getting the SW Flow.
27 MPH Winds gusting to 38 MPH, light drizzle.
This morning it was Sunny.
Temps went up to 52° but have now dropped to 43° in the last 30 minutes.
100 miles west of us Indianapolis is getting snow.
By 6 PM or so we'll be at freezing.
By Sunrise we'll be at 20° w/ the Wind Chill it will seem to be 5°.
If the power stays on it's no biggie.
We weren't planning on going out anyway...lol!
If it does go out... we have a gas stove and water heater.
Laptop is charged as are all the batteries, plenty of food, plenty of books and dry wall to do so...
Ric
