I have a small fig tree that I just put in the ground this spring. It has quite a few little figs on it that don't seem to be ripening. Is this normal? Should I remove them to prevent them from distracting the tree from establishing? Any advice would be appreciated.
Young Fig Tree
Porkpal
Don’t worry ,they will fall off along with the leaves shortly. We are in the same climate zone so you can expect a crop during the second week of July and a very small second crop from "mature" trees in October. Young figs do tend to crop late in the first year but it will get on schedule by next year.
What variety do you have?
Oldude
Didn't know that oldude, happened to plant a couple brown turkey figs a few weeks ago. That info will come in handy next year.
Thanks, Oldude. It is a Brown Turkey Fig. I don't know whether it is a variety recommended for this area or not. It was a gift - probably purchased at a big box store. So far it is doing well.
