dwarf peach tree

Kahaluʻu, HI(Zone 11)

I have a dwarf peach tree in a barrel. I used cactus soil mix at the recommendation from the nursery. It only got a few leaves this year at the end of summer and no peaches. Help. Does anyone have any ideas.
Thanks.

I would say you are to hot for peaches. First off you have no chill hours so it will not set fruit.

I'm actually asking for my mother-in-law who lives in the Santa Barbara area

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

According to this UC Davis website, Santa Barbara, proper, averages only 10 chill hours.

Since the number of chill hours within Santa Barbara county vary, from no chill hours to 400+, depending on proximity to the ocean, have her contact her local Cooperative Extension Service agent to see if he has more information. The way chill hours can get more complicated since warm weather adds minus chill hours so you could end up with less than what is shown at this site.

Do you know the peach cultivar she bought? Peach cultivar chill hour requirements range from a low of 200 to over 1,000, depending on the variety. Dave Wilson Nursery lists chill hour requirements and has an extensive list of peaches. Maybe you can find her variety listed here.

I'm on the coast in SC and don't get enough chill hours for a normal peach so Santa Barbara is going to be a tough call without some sort of special peach. The University of Florida puts out some low chill hour peaches.
