Coleus Chatter September

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Here's the Selection Guide, by Rosy Dawn Gardens, regarding the coleus that can tolerate sun and part sun:

http://www.rosydawngardens.com/Selection_Guide.aspx

Edited to say that, of course, Happy's sun and the sun up here in igloo territory are somewhat different.

thanks for all the info guys, now I have to go see what all I have and what goes with what and where--(I think that made sence)??

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

It's probably sad, but I understood every word.

Hap

PS. I have found that the deeper the reds the more they can stand the sun.

Deland, FL(Zone 9a)

Hap- right, but I've also found lately that some you would never expect, like pineapple prince, which is really light colored-almost white in my book, likes sun also.......

Deland, FL(Zone 9a)

and this stuff-I think its called henna?, will wilt all to heck in a short time in the sun

o.k.--here's one for you all--on the right is a trailing red (which likes sun), and on the left is a cutting from a lemon-lime, which for some reason looks like its also trailing, but the cutting was from a plant that was not a trailer.
does this just happen or did it get too much fertilizer???

trina,

Full sun in S. Florida is HOT, Direct sun in summer. I lived 43 years up north and the sun down here is another whole ball game. It's wicked June, July and August. Coleus lose some of their beautiful colors. Mine are just starting to look themselves, if you know what I mean.

Yeah I just noticed where Goodgreen lives! But yes it does still look like mine. mine justs alot of midwestern sun and humidity and I'm suprised with all the storms we had that it's still standing perfectly tall straight and defiant, unlike the hollyhocks, irises, gladiola's, and well you get the point

Deland, FL(Zone 9a)

well, we had our cold spell--got down to 60 something for 2 nights in a row-back to 92 tomarrow

Hey ge-I heard from some where, I think it was in the paper, that it never got very warm up your way this summer at all
I think it was on Emeril's cook show that they were actually shipping in vegetables and fruits from out of state because the growing season was so late this year
any truth to that??

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Very pretty - really like #3!

Deland, FL(Zone 9a)

not a real good pic- thats one I got from Dale last july(?)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Very nice plants and colors, Goodgreen!

We're south of ge1836 but had a cool and rainy spring, cool July, muggy August and a poor tomato crop but a bumper crop of cucumbers, probably due to the rain.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)
