I have Variegated Heliopsis. It is a tall hardy seed grown cultivar of traditional heliopsis hybridized with 10 var. of helianthus and heliopsis. It is similar to Lorraine Sunshine bit it NOTHING like Lorraine.
My question is: How do I label it or name it? Do I just call it Variegated Heliopsis? Who names plants??
HELP!
Who names plants? YOU do, if you are the one who developed or discovered the plant. There are rules for proper naming, plus you need to find the ICRA (International Cultivar Registration Authority) for your type of plant and register your name with them (shouldn't be a charge for that, either). For example, you could call your plant Heliopsis 'Kim's Surprise' if you wanted to.
I will look this up (ICRA) and look into that. I know how to grow em'. But I haven't had knowledge on the naming..registration..and all that jazz. Will definitely look into it. Because I think I have some plants I need to name.
The following link should be a help to you in getting your plant named properly:

And one about naming your plant:

Thanks so much!
I've been (slowly) naming my hybrid aroids and registering them with the ICRA for aroids (the International Aroid Society) so I've had a little experience in this. I've also been pondering the patenting process, which is costly and extensive, but if I have something really special, maybe worth the effort.
