Walked in a local park last week and today. Both times near the damp woods, SOMETHING is in bloom and very sweet, but what? Today I thought there may be clethra in there. It is indigenous(sp?) to the woods near here.
Is your Clethra in bloom now? Does the fragrance carry?
Clethra/ summersweet- blooming now?
They've been blooming for a week or so here, I'll check tomorrow and see how fragrant they are. They're small still, about three feet high with less than a dozen blooms.
I'm just so curious about this fragrance from otherwise ordinary looking patch of woods. I should have gone bushwhacking but I was hot and tired (Addy too) by the time I thought of looking for clethra. If yours have been blooming a week or so, they may have started here a bit earlier.
Sally, yes, they are blooming and the smell is heavenly.
Thanks- I was able to peek into the woods yestreday and am sure I saw some.
