A friend is buying a farm house that has a huge walk-thru arbor that is covered with mature grape vines that are loaded with grapes. Is there any other way of knowing when to pick/harvest them, other than tasting them? As of right now, the grapes are small and green. Sure would appreciate any help and info you can give. I don't know anything about growing grapes....only know them when I see them. ;)
Thanks!
Glenda
How do you tell when grapes are ripe and ready to be picked?
Tasting them is the best way! After they get past the small and green phase, of course.
Since no one knows what varieties these are, it would be impossible to tell what they would look like when ripe, what color they are supposed to be. After this first season, she'll know.
Thanks for your help! I will let her know! :)
ripe ones will stop being hard, but as said above, just eat one, if it's sour, spit it out and come back next week.
That works!! Can't get any easier than that! :)
Thanks a bunch!
