So many plants, so little clue.

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a bunch of plants in my garden and I don't know what they are. O Dave's Gardeners, may I ask for your help to identify them??

Mystery plant #1 -- bushy, with tiny little purple flowers.

Mystery plant #8 -- Could this be poison ivy??

Mystery plant #3 could be Abelia -- see http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/368/

I'm a little worried that #1 and #2 are weeds ....

You might try posting these on the Plant and Tree Identification forum for a wider response.

Mystery plant #9 -- Is this the same as mystery plant #6? (I'm after an ID on the central plant, but as it happens, anyone know what the other green plant is in the upper right?)

#6 is a variegated Aegepodium --- http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/546/
#7 looks like a butterfly bush of some sort -- see http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/49898/
#8 is not poison ivy, but I don't know what it is
#9 -- the variegated plant looks like a variegated euonymus -- I don't know the cultivar. There are lots and lots of variegated cultivars. See http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55631/

Mystery plant #17 -- This is a rather large bush, with some bright red new growth.

Mystery plant #22 -- I have a ton of these popping up in various areas, some of which have stems the size of my thumb. They seem very vigorous but I suspect they're a weed of some kind....

#1 is knotweed. Get it out of there unless you want it everywhere.

#2 is abelia, just regular variety
#6 is goutweed. It can be very invasive so make sure it's contained
#7 is butterfly bush
#10 looks exactly like a weed that shows up here, I don't know the name
#15 is viburnum

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

#13 - commonly known as Periwinkle, Vinca minor http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/174/

#17 - Japanese Maple, looks like a lot of dieback damage which should be pruned out

#21 - seedlings of Mimosa Tree, Albizia julibrissin #13 - commonly known as Periwinkle, Vinca minor http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/174/, loved by some, hated by others :(

#22 - Looks like Pokeweed, another voracious weed - like #1 and #2, get rid of them immediately!

#24 - either Rhododendron or one of the evergreen Azaleas

Shenandoah Valley, VA

18 is definitely not lambs years. Looks like bindweed. 23 looks like common violets

You know, it's really difficult trying to go back and forth on these. Here's a good site for identifying weeds
http://www.ppws.vt.edu/weedindex.htm

For the others, you might get a couple of good books, one on perennials, one on trees and shrubs. Or try plant files.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

#20 is definitely poison ivy. #8 might be a cherry tree seedling.

#11 looks like wisteria, which pops up everywhere in some areas. I've spent four years or so trying to get rid of bishop's weed / Aegopodium #6; it's almost gone here but the woods are full of it.

The pokeweed isn't a big deal - you might not want it in a flower bed, but it's an American plant that birds depend on for food.

There's a nasty weed in your first picture (besides the Polygonum / smartweed, a native plant, not a big deal) that looks like a bamboo-like grass but I can't remember the name right now.

Have we gotten them all? 17 despite needing some pruning, looks like very fancy Jap maple. I hope you're not discouraged by the weeds in the group. We all deal with these weeds, that's how we can a name them so fast!

Thanks so much for all the help!

Yes, I knew many of these would be weeds. I just figured I'd like to know what I'm yanking out of the ground :)

Thanks again!
