pirl's Japanese irises

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

The best collection of any flower I've seen! I can imagine how wonderful it is to walk in the garden and discover which one's opened today.

I love the color match between Gracieuse with Jolly Bee geranium. Perfect!

Beautiful family, all of you. It's nice to meet Jack!

Thanks!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I had to come back and look at Butterflies in Flight again..love that one, but then of course I had to look again at all of them, and then again and want them all.

So now I am going out to check for available garden space....good grief, Pirl. My neighbors have a huge empty lot right next to my back yard. Am I going to have to buy more land because of my obsessions?

An expensive addiction.

But so satisfying when your eyes need beauty

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Tonight I'll be posting more photos.

Go ahead and buy that lot, Sharon. You might need it.

Then I will have to dig up all the green meatballs and knockouts she put out there.
Ugh.

There will be more in the morning.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

What is your total number now of different cultivars, Pirl?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I really don't know because I have never counted. The most difficult to photograph so far has been Confetti Dancer. There are still a few yet to open with their first flower.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Great show, Pirl!! Mine are starting here too but the hail keeps shredding them! Grrrrrr. Here is R. Giskard with Canada lilies, another nice combo.

Here's my new one, an introduction from Steve Smith who lives nearby. I'm trying to find out the name.

OMG Pirl! I can't even begin to pick a favorite! They are all stunners!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, I can pick a favorite. Peacock Dance has always been my favorite of Pirl's Irises.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Arlene, wow time has flown! I cannot believe your grandson is so big!
It seems like only a few months ago you were posting baby pics.

Congratulations to your new grad in the family too.

You have a wonderful collection of Japanese iris.

Pirl those are stunning and the lighting is perfect.
Boojum I love your gardens, are the canada lilies the yellows? in the background?

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Yes, they are the yellow ones. They were growing here in the woods and I transplanted them into the garden. They were in the DG calendar 2 years ago. And I'm with you Teresa, seems like only yesterday that little boy was born! What a lovely family and amazing collection of JIs!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, everyone. I did take an early morning stroll out there but everything is just so wet. I doubt we've ever had a spring nearly this rainy. At least the sun is out...for now.

I was surprised to see Nelly Moser still blooming behind the JI's. It's been six weeks of constant bloom now.

love all of it

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

A mix of JI's. That Frilled Enchantment just manages to get into so many photos!

Thanks, Jo Ann!

These were also a gift and they've expanded greatly in just three years. Why doesn't Japanese Pinwheel expand like this?

I really wish the sky would lift some more so my pix wouldnt be so dark.
Your JI beacons in the dark look wonderful.
My stuff is just not visible.
