Mysterious Japanese berry

Penrith, United Kingdom

Could anyone help me identify this Japanese Shrub. It was photographed in Iwaki, Fukushima province. The berries are edible. Any comments or firm identification of genus would be appreciated.

That looks like Juneberry/Saskatoon/Serviceberry to me. Not sure the exact variety in the pic, but the ones I have hold the berries upright for the most part and the pic ones are hanging down. Both berry and leaves look like what I indicated. Genus Amelanchier

Flavor of fruit is excellent but seedy. About 1/2 dozen varieties are commercially available depending on fruit size, tree/bush size, etc.
