Mine pretty much all stay outside, and I just cover with frost cloth unless it goes below 40. I haven't ever recorded the temp under the frost covers, but I've never had any orchids damaged by cold, either. My first two little Phals suffered through our record cold winter in '09 with no visible damage, but one did not bloom the spring after the coldest weather.

A new addition where the Phals will all be enclosed this winter is a nice little wire and metal shelf unit that came with a zipped plastic cover for cold nights, turning it into a mini-greenhouse. http://www.amazon.com/Gardman-R687-4-Tier-Mini-Greenhouse/dp... I'll stick a couple of my solar-heated water jugs in the bottom before I go to bed to help keep it toasty. I'm confident it will do the job nicely.
