He was spurred into doing this for me because we had guests coming over for a barbeque to celebrate his birthday. I can't wait to see how many blooms I'm going to get this year. I had been foolishly pruning this vine too much, and therefore cutting off the old wood and blooms, not knowing how to treat a group 1 clematis previously.

I checked on Niobe and Miguel Viso, and noted that they too have buds.
