Comments regarding Johnny's Selected Seeds

I received my order promptly and with instructions on the seed packet for achieving higher germination rates. I'm having well above average germination rate and I'm very thankful for the tip. Their selection and description in the catalog is tops.

I would recommend this company to anyone. Very positive experience. Friendly workers on the telephone, fast shipping and all the seeds I planted germinated.

The seeds I ordered came quickly. Nice note on invoice. Lots of info on the seed packets which is a nice surprise for a novice like myself. Very pleased!

Every order I have placed with Johnny's has been followed up with fantastic service. My order was shipped quickly, and completely, the packaging sturdy. Johnny's is the real deal. They really are farming up Maine, cultivating and maintaining great seed strains. While their catalog and website are simple, they are very effective. It is very rare to find a website that is able to keep realtime inventory, so it's no surprise that Johnny's doesn't have that function either. I will definitely order from them again and again.

I just managed to spend $40 at Johnny's on vegetable and flower seeds. I bought tomatoes, peppers, marigolds, impatiens, petunias sweet peas and sunflowers. They were super friendly on the phone and I'm really looking forward to getting my order.

Once again my order with Johnny's Selected Seeds was filled quickly and arrived before other orders I had placed earlier. It is this reliable service that keeps me coming back each year.

Thank you for preserving the only true Brandywine tomato (Suddath or Quisenberry strain), thank you for introducing Diva, one of the best tasting cucumbers ever and thank you for introducing some of the more exotic leafy greens. But maybe it is time to become the first honest seed supplier. Not every variety is great tasting, excellent, mouth watering etc. Most of your (and others) veggie varieties are mediocre and please, don't push them on novice gardeners.

I ordered seeds last year from Johnny's. Great germination, fast service, (I ordered in Dec.) and good selection.

I ordered their catalog from their website a week ago, and it arrived today. It is very impressive and the descriptions seem to be well-written and complete. I will be ordering from them in the spring. It is a pleasure to receive such a professional publication.

Just found the Garden Watchdog site, and thought I would post my experience with Johnny's Selected Seeds (JSS) here... not that another truly positive experience will have much impact.

I am a small fresh-market grower, and have used JSS as the sole seed source for everything except my tomatoes and peppers (I plant varieties not available through JSS) for the past two years, and across multiple orders. Each time, the order has been shipped quickly, with everything as advertised. I took a chance this year with some onion plants (I have always grown from sets or seed in the past) and they arrived in excellent condition, in perfect time for planting in my climate zone.

Even a late-season order received the same attention and immediate shipping that my earlier orders have received. (Their All-Star Gourmet lettuce mix has been such a hit at the local market that I ran short, and had to quickly replenish my stock).

And large quantities of seed are no problem, either! I highly recommend JSS as a seed and plant source.

It's been great dealing with them. Whether the items are to be shipped to my mom in Virginia or to me in the Philippines, JSS delivers fast!

I like ordering seeds from Johnny's because they give planting and germinating info in the catalog as well as on the seed pack. The info in the catalog is pretty detailed - i like that. Seeds arrived as scheduled - no complaints. peace & love,,,,,

I am a three year customer of Johnny's. It took me a while to discover them, but they are great. I start hundreds of plants from seed annually, and JSS has very fresh, carefully wrapped seed with extremely high germination rates, with great, detailed instructons (such as ACCURATE time from planting to bloom - rare and very helpful). I grow both their excellent veggies (particularly fabulous lettuce I grow in pots), herbs (check out the gorgeous basils for ornamental use and seasoning) and flowers, an area they are rapidly expanding, coming up with neat exclusives (President Tyler Morning Glories, Salvis Gruppenblau). They have a wonderful ornamental grass selection (stipa, seteceum, pennisetum) a fabulous selection of salvias, and my favorite, ornamental broom corn (grows to seven feet tall in weeks, producing gorgeous tassels). Customer service is very responsive and concerned (I inadvertently double placed an order, which was corrected even before it hit my charge card!) I HIGHLY recommend them.

I know its surprising, but I, too, got excellent service from johnny's. They are among the best internet retail operations of any sort.

My beans are already sprouting and looking very healthy and strong, and the lettuce is looking wonderful as well. Service was very prompt and professional, and prices were good.

Johnny's provides excellent quality seeds. They are fast, friendly, and helpful on the phone. They carry great garden tools as well. They have developed a few great seed strains - Bright Lights chard and tiny pumpkins. I love the wide range of vegetable and herb seeds available. Their flower range is expanding slowly.

Johnny's offers great customer service, excellent variety, and high-quality products. I will definitely order from Johnny's again.

I've ordered from Johnnny's for many years. Their seed is extremely fresh and germination rates are excellent. That means I don't have to plant 3 seeds to get a single plant.
Their tomato varieties are limited but there are some great choices available. I wouldn't hesitate to order beans and corn and everything else from them, as this seed company pays close attention to taste as well as productivitiy.

I ordered with Johnny's in late February and received my seeds in full in less than 7 days! When I called to inquire about the order their customer service was friendly and courteous and genuinely seemed to care. So far, all I've planted have been fresh and vigorous. I love all the unique varieties they have and also like their emphasis on organic production. Their resealable seed packets are a plus, too. I look forward to doing business with Johnny's in the future.

I ordered some echinacea seed from Johnny's and the very day the order arrived I received an offer of a $5.00 discount on my first order which I had already made. I emailed Johnny's to see if they would honor the $5.00 offer for the order that I had already made.They emailed me back promply saying that they would gladly refund me $5.00 on my order. Five dollars may not seem like a lot of money but the fact that they had the courtesy to respond to me and not brush me off was priceless. Johnny's is also the only company that I have seen so far that warns that to get most echinacea seeds to germinate they must be strafied. I then had to find out what stratified seeds were. In fact on further reading in their catalog they explain that stratification is the process of storing seeds at low temperatures in the refrigerator for about 30 days prior to planting. This process helps to break the dormancy inherent with echinacea seed. All this time I couldn't figure out why I could never get those seed to germinate.

I have been ordering from Johnnys for years. I always receive my seeds, etc. in a very timely manner. The seeds are always viable and grow well. I also like their focus on organic. Their help staff are always ver knowledgable and will spend all the time you need.

I will be a loyal Johhny's customer for many years to come!

The seeds were packaged nice. The instructions on planting was printed on 8 1/2 by 11 which made it easier to read. The prices was little higher than Pinetree Gardens but I thought they gave you more seeds with Johnny's.

The seeds I ordered arrived quickly. They did have a warning listed on the jalapeno seed package that the color would be paler than usual. I was impressed that they would inform the buyer of this. My faxed order was accidentally duplicated, which turned out not to be a problem. The order form is on legal size paper which doesn't fax properly sometimes. I would recommend phone or online ordering instead. They credited my account the next billing period, and all customer service reps were friendly and helpful. I have only planted the winter thyme seeds so far but they have already sprouted! I can't wait to see how the tomatoes and peppers do. Good experience so far!

My Cup and Saucer Vine seeds were receive three days after ordering, high germination rate. Looking foward to do business with again

I ordered over $300 of seeds from Johnny's. When my order arrived, they said I owed them more money. I checked my invoice and saw they had charged me $11.75 for something that was supposed to be $4.50. I called customer service. Indeed there had been a price increase. She apologized and suggested I send it back and request a refund on shipping. I did so. A week later, I got an envelope from them. It had MY ORIGINAL SEEDS in it, a letter of apology and a note stating they were sending me a check for $15.06; the cost of shipping for my seed order plus my refund. Now that's great customer service!!!!!!

Ordered a number of vegtable and herb seeds, they arrived in one week in good condition. Last years seeds all germinated well. My garlic was great! Very good catalog, selection, service, and growing info.

They are the best - all plant companies should copy their approach. I have had 99% success with there merchandise. For the few problems, they replaced the seeds with no quibble.

This is a terrific company. Quality of their seeds is outstanding -- the germination rates I have had with with their seeds have been very high. Prices tend to be very competitive. Customer service is excellent -- not only can you get through, but they are friendly and responsive. The cultural information in the catalog is quite excellent and more extensive than for most catalogs. It is also a big plus that they are independent, and not part of one of the substantial corporate consolidation throughout the industry. Johnny's folksy email letter is down to earth and informative.

I have been ordering from Johnny's for several years. Everything is exactly as advertised, with great selection. But, as a northern gardener, the thing I like best is that they prominently display days to maturity. About 90% of the seeds I order from other catalogs have problems reaching maturity in my short season. I never have to guess about this when I order from Johnny's.
