I wish I had found this site containing feedback on the company before ordering as the comments here show a consistent hit or miss record of performance and I'm afraid I'm in the same predicament. Ordered multiple units of two types of plants. Received a shipment containing one of the plant types which also contained a handwritten note stating the rest would be sent in 2-3 weeks. Now a month later the rest of the plants have not been delivered and the company does not respond to emails. Buyers beware.

We do respond to emails usually within 24hrs. sorry if we missed you some how. If some plants are still not ready to ship, once they become ready we will ship them to you at our expense. Growing and shipping over 1,000 varieties not everything is ready when we want it to be. If you emailed me prior to today you should have gotten an email letting you know they are not quite ready to ship or when we expect them to ship. "

I ordered 3 coneflower plants about a month ago. One was great. One was the wrong color, & they reimbursed me. The last one was barely a plant, & I told them the day I got it. I sent them a picture, but they said give it time. Well, I gave it time & emailed them & sent another picture, & they are ignoring my emails. It is only about 3" tall with no blooms. I don't even know if it will be the right color. Never ordering from them again.

First off, I'd like to say that I've order from them for the past 5 years and have only had a good experience - good quality, fast shipments, and they don't put restrictions on the time of year they will ship plants out. However, this last shipment was a disaster. The first shipment went to the wrong location and I never got it. They sent a replacement without sending me a tracking number which was odd, and would not tell me when it would arrive. When it did come, the plants were in such bad shape I do not think a majority will make it. My poor butterfly bushes had maybe one green, wilted leaf on them. I've been giving them TLC, but it's really upsetting because I really liked New Garden Plants. Pete seemed very responsive at first, but now has gone silent. I doubt they will make this right. Not only have I lost in these plants, I've also lost what I thought was a trusted source. Unfortunately, after researching reviews, I see this same scenario has happened to others. It looks like a hit or miss with them.

My plants arrived in poorly packaged paper bags with dirt all over the box. The box was the wrong size for the order, and the plants were not separated from each other, so that some plants were on top of others, crushing the stems of lupines and heliopsis. Some of the plastic pots were crushed, so that the root balls were pushed out of the top. The soil was dry, and no attempt was made to keep the soil contained or moist for travel. The heliopsis have few leaves and appear unlikely to survive. The lupines are also fragile and questionable.
Four of the plants were missing from the order, and although there was a notation on the enclosed paperwork that I would be refunded, I received no notice via email prior to shipment and no refund to date. I will update with any refund info.
Having relied on the many positive reviews from this site prior to ordering, I suggest anyone who plans to order from this company do a wider on-line search for reviews, and you will see a long history of poor quality and poor customer service.

I have never even received an acknowledgement from them. I will not do business with them again.

Received an incrediball hydrangea from them. It arrives mostly dead. It really was shipped prematurely. there isn't much chance it had been rooted nearly long enough to ship. It was one single small stem with one dead leaf. Emailed the company twice with no response. I don't mind starter plants but I do expect them to be well-rooted. Appears ordering from these folks is a crapshoot and with shipping it is not a great deal.

I am so disappointed in this order with New Garden Plants. I have emailed them about 3 times now and have gotten no response. I placed a rather large order with them, and have ordered from them in the past. They were out of a certain Verbena I wanted, so they sent a substitute without even asking me if I wanted it. I had ordered 3 Verbena and the one they sent to me was more expensive. The only ugly Verbena I have seen, which I am sure that is why they sent that one. I have absolutely nothing that will go with the Verbena they sent. It's nothing I would have ordered. I started looking at the Supertunias I ordered from them and saw nothing special about them. They look like something I could have bought from my local Walmart or Lowes. I looked on the order and sure enough, they sent me Supertunia White and not the 22 award winning Supertunia Snowdrift I had planned to order for a year now and could not wait to plant and watch it grow. I definitely would have never ordered the Supertunia White. I notice others have had a hard time getting a response from these people, too. It's a shame, because the plants were sent well packed and I was pleased with the ones I actually ordered. Now practically everyone I know online I could buy the Supertunia Snowdrift from are sold out of them. I could have ordered them from one of the other online garden sites if they had just told me at the time. I am really angry about this. I did find a place called flowerbudsgreenhouse.com who has them, after searching for hours online. I will check for reviews and the BBB before I order from them. Now I have about $35.00 worth of flowers I cannot use. I have spent about $300.00 on flowers this year and really cannot afford to spend money on flowers I should have gotten in the first place. I will be making a complaint with their Attorney General, and may even sue them. I work in a law office. If you cannot be professional, you have no right to have a store, in my opinion. People count on receiving what they actually order because they have plans for these flowers. With all of that being said, it is taking a big chance when you order from this company. You may get what you want and you may get a lot of flowers you would have never purchased, but you will certainly not get professionalism from them after you have placed the order. I emailed them a question before I placed the order and got a response then, of course. Buyers beware of New Garden Plants. They are criminals, in my opinion.

In spring of 2019, I ordered two butterfly bushes, a Royal Red, and a honeycomb butterfly bush.

In July of 2019, I realized that I had a honeycomb bush and a blue bush. Definitely nor red. Not even close.

After 6 months attempting to contact Pete, I received this response, "more than likely the plant is not true to name. My apologies for never responding. I'm guessing I was checked out on vacation when you sent it we must have skipped over your email."

He said that I just need to add a note to my next order.

Fair enough. I was goint to get more red bushes anyway.

However, it has been more than 6 months since I reached out to him, and I didnt want to pay for shipping on a plant that was mis delivered. I was not satisfied.

I offered 50/50 split on shipping.

He complained, "I would prefer not to we are already losing money on shipping and it is a time consuming task to issue a refund or discount."

It is not my problem that correcting an issue takes effort.

I was willing to purchase additional plants based on this quote from his website, "I want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. For that reason, every plant I ship is 100% Guaranteed. We guarantee that our plants will arrive in good condition and will be packaged and labelled correctly."

I attempted to be reasonable, I know a business has to make money. It was his guarantee, that he wrote of his own accord on the website.

I offered to purchase more plants, and pay 50% of shipping costs.

I now know that the words in that statement are not to be trusted.

I asked if he would honor just the replacement of the Royal Red.

He never responded after I said this.

My first and last experience with NewGardenPlants. I ordered some of the 'Cha Cha' series of flowering penstemon from this nursery on Nov 20th 2019 becuase they were one of the only places at the time that I could find it and I desperately needed them for a raised bed project. Unfortunetely I did not do more research on this company before ordering, when I ordered the plants it gives you the option of requesting a certain shipping week, the plants arrived much later than my requested shipping week. Prior to receiving the plants I tried a couple of times by both phone and e-mail to reach somebody to ask them the status of my shipment but never received any kind of response. The plants eventually arrived but what I received was awful - literally the worst quality plants I've ever received - they were a little tiny nub or stick cut back almost to the ground in a quart sized pot. No where on their website did it say 'Dormant' or 'Cut back' like most nurseries use to describe the condition of the plants so this was not what I was expecting. Anyways after a quick glance at some of the Davesgarden reviews I started to get really worried becuase it seems like recently they've been getting a lot of bad reviews with similar experiences like mine. I tried many times calling the company but the phone number provided on the website is worthless, just a recorded message telling you to try e-mailing Pete which also did me absolutely no good. So I was in a awkward position and looked more into their return policy online and read their so called 100% guarantee - I followed it exactly and sent the plants back to them at my own cost (Becuase FedEx will not send back a package that's already been opened without an additional charge, well how the heck was I or anyone for that matter suppose to know they sent terrible quality plants without opening it...) l left a note inside the box saying 'Return - Please Refund.' Still NOTHING even after almost a couple of weeks later that I had sent the twigs back I still didn't recieve a refund or gotten any kind of contact from this place. At that point I was done with it and went to my bank to resort to disputing the charges - I've never had to do this before but fortunately my bank helped me out and I got my refund, but it's ridiculous this is what I had to go through to get it. I've never had such a bad experience with any kind of online order like this before, I've been in the Nursery trade for almost 10 years and manage a large retail nursery and this was by far the worst experience in the nursery trade that I've had, so much so that I felt I'd be doing everyone else a disservice by not warning them about my own experience. You know a place is trouble when someone actually takes the time to create an account just to leave a review to warn others about it. Buy at your own risk

I waited for 3 weeks and then called to find out when they would be shipped out. Left a complete message with order number, customer ID number and my phone number. NO ONE EVER returned my call. I called again in another week and also sent an email to them with all of the information. Again, no response at all. As of this date, April 23rd, 2018 I have sent several emails and left 5 messages on their answering machine. Not once has anyone from this company responded. They charged me for plants that I never received and refuse to return any of my messages. Nor have they refunded my money which was nearly $40.00. This company cares nothing about customer service. I would NEVER buy anything from them again and would urge anyone considering to do so to think twice. I would not patronize a company who does not even care enough to contact a customer and then keep their money. Thankfully I put this order on a credit card and am disputing the charges. The plants I did receive were over priced and packaged VERY POORLY. I am hoping to prevent others from being ripped off and not allow a company like this to continue to operate. Taking a customers money and then not answering messages or even attempting to resolve the issue is not acceptable, nor should it be. Pete needs to understand that it is AGAINST THE LAW to charge a customer and not provide the goods or services promised. I think this family owned company works hard to be satisfactory and I trust that to be true because I've experienced it. The plants I've received we're very healthy and packaged very well. I've ordered from many different companies so that I can compare them and so far I've not been as pleased with any of them as I am with this one. This is my honest opinion and perspective. There are alot of things I really do like about this company like selection prices and website. However, I will not be purchasing plants from here ever again.
As I stated, I have shopped at Alot of places for plants, including places that ship plants in bags with tiny seedlings for plants. I have had a much much better out come with All of these companies at the end of the day.
For whatever reason the plants at this company didn't make it. Most of them died. They were lovely and big when they arrived but most died. It is a mystery what the problem was with these perrenials.
All of the shrubs I bought did not die. So getting shrubs here is Not a bad idea.
This company does not offer a guarantee for this circumstance thats why I will not longer shop here or recommend it.
I was so so thrilled with this company but at the end of the day I'm out alot of money and effort.

VERY small for the price. Also, half of the plants died.

The leaves started dropping off both, and the plants started to shrivel and droop. We made sure we were watering them correctly, they got the sun they required, we're in the right hardiness zone.

Emailed them 8/18 with photos, they were definitely dying. Pete said to give it more time and they'd probably pull through. I gave it more time, we babied the plants and monitored them daily. One of them did seem to perk up, but the other went downhill fast. It's now just a brown dead twig, it's a sad waste of money.

I emailed Pete on 8/30 with no reply, and tried again to their sales email on 9/4 with updated photos, asking for a replacement. Their site says they 100% no hassle guarantee their plants, so I was just hoping he could send another. It just doesn't make sense that it's 5 feet away from the other one in the same exact soil and it starts dying pretty much after we plant it.
He seems to be ignoring my emails and does not reply. I agree with the other reviewers, he's very responsive until there's a problem that needs dealt with. I guess I didn't spend enough money with them to be worth assisting. I do not recommend ordering from them!

Sorry, I had to put the business on the back burner last summer and fall. After 18 months I have finally completed building a new home for my family in which I decided to do some of the work myself, including the general contractor. It was quite overwhelming and a lot more work than I had imagined.
So my apologies I just could not keep up with everything. Please contact me if I do not get ahold of you first and I will more than take care of the issue.

I ordered several plants totaling about $100. They were one of the few online nurseries that carried Proven Winner's Sunsatia Cranberry Nemesias. This was the only reason I chose NewGardenPlants.com. I added several more plants so that I take full advantage of their $10 flat shipping rate. Although most of the plants arrived healthy and in much bigger pots than most of the other nurseries I ordered from in the past, unfortunately, the Nemesias were DOA. They were all brown, shriveled up, and the cambium had no green color to it whatsoever. They never sent out any new leaves. So I sent them an email to get replacements. No reply. So I telephoned them. No one picks up the phone. I sent another email to Pete there, but still no reply. I don't think I will ever do business with them again.

I read more reviews for New Garden Plants, and I have to agree with other reviewers who gave Pete a negative review in that there is absolutely ZERO communication if there is anything wrong with your order. Most positive reviews were from those who had received all live and healthy plants. My first order experience with them was fine because all plants from that order came alive. That's why I decided to order from them again. With the dead nemsias and no customer service, I will not order from them again. If you are OK receiving some dead plants and not getting any customer service for that issue, they are an OK nursery to order from. But if you expect customer service, no way no how.

Upon receiving my plants, I noticed right away that one of them looked sickly (yellow and limp). I flagged it up to them via email and was told I ought to fertilize - which I did. The third plant is dead now and the company didn't respond to my email or a phone call. Only after I said I would dispute the charge through my credit card company did I get a response. There are too many good nurseries out there to put up with this poor customer service.

I am not the sort to give anyone a negative review but my dealings with New Garden Plants had to be told to warn others of making the same mistake I made. I had ordered or received quite a few items from NGP none of which were in impeccable shape upon receipt. The ones that really concerned me were the three (3) Silene Druett's Variegated Campion that were subpar to say the least but one was a little worse than the others. I figured with a little tlc they would all pull through and went ahead and planted them in the same garden bed. It has only been about a week and the worse plant received has completely rotted away while the others are doing fine. I contacted Pete via phone message and via e-mail twice regarding this matter, I would have left him another phone message but his mailbox was actually full! Needless to say I have not received any contact back from him at all. This is completely unacceptable if you are running your own business. His website states "100% guarantee, a 100% NO HASSLE GUARANTEE", which means 100% absolutely nothing to me since it has been a complete hassle and I am extremely dissatisfied. I will NEVER buy from him again and I pursuade others on This site to think twice before doing so! And if anyone of my gardening friends asks me to recommend an on-line mail order nursery, the first thing I would tell them is to go to Romence Gardens because they are absolutely wonderful in every way. And the second thing I would tell them is to avoid New Garden Plants like powdery mildew!!

Everything customer CarlaSue said is ditto from me. Pete only answered one of my emails, but subsequently didn't honor what that email promised, a replacement of an indistinguishable moldy plant. The packing is a little haphazard, and I've been able to live with that for the most part, but one thing I canNOT live with, aside from broken promises and failure to respond to emails, is to be served a substitution plant after clearly specifying I didn't want any substitutions. Too much lack of communication going on with Pete, and when in his only reply to me he said his family had taken an impromptu vacation and that's why he hadn't gotten back to me earlier, how could I help but wonder if that was true? Even if it was true, shouldn't he have contacted customers about it?

I placed my order early in March to make sure I would get the plants in case they would run out. I emailed them back to move my order up 15 days to the 15 of May. I replyed severals times to them to see if they got my email, and they never returned with a answer,I finally called them and they were not even sure about my order even though they had already run payment on my credit card. When they found my order I was told I would receive extra flower for the mistake, And I did and it was probably the best looking flower in the bunch. When I opened the box I was very disappointed in the flowers. Alot of them were broken, some were very small plants nothing like the picture they show with the tape measure, Dried out plants just not good looking plants at all. I will not order from them again.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
I placed several orders, from newgardenplants.com,based on reviews, from this site.I placed the orders several months before spring shipping was to begin.
I was so excited to receive my flowers.Sadly that didnt last upon opening my packages!
In total I spent $400.00 ,and purchased around 50lbs of flowers.

First my shipping requested dates were not honered.
Also most of the plants that had any height to them ,were placed in boxes FAR too small for them, and then the tops of plants were draped over tops of rest of plants, and then sealed shut in the box.
After spending two days being shipped, the plants that were packed that way, were HORRIBLY wilted mangled and damaged from being packed in that manner. Several of the plants clearly should have flower heads on them, but instead they just had broken stems, with missing flower heads.

Also MANY of the pots barely had any dirt in them. There was no dirt spilled in the boxes,as well as no broken off flower heads in box,so none of the above described complaints had anything to do with the shipping company.
Also many many many bugs arrived with my flowers.
I have dealt with many other online nurseries and never run into these issues.
I called and spoke with Pete, the owner, and mentioned my complaints to him.
His first response was to be angry and tell me to return them to him,and he would refund my money.
I told him I would be glad to return them to him BUT he needed to send me the return label. He told me to buy the return label, and he would reimburse me.I refused. He finally agreed to send me the label.
About ten minutes later Pete called me and asked that I give them time, and see if they come back and if they dont,he would refund my money,or did I want a discount.
I responded I wasnt interested in any discount.I payed good money for good flowers and that is all I wanted.
I then got into more detail about the condition of the flowers how they were packed and how they arrived, and Petes response was to laugh like an IDIOT,and say he had someone new working there and he would speak to them about it.
At this point,I felt I should throw all flowers in a box and simply return them.I decided against that though, and figured it wouldnt hurt to give it a few days, and see if they survive.
Some survived and some did not.
I gave another try to this company and took replacement plants for those that died.
Would you believe it if I told you,the rest arrived EXACTLY the same as the first set.
Withered, bent, mangled, missing flower heads, with bugs, and barely any dirt in pots.I guess Pete~~ I mean the "new worker" didnt get the message!
I emailed Pete this time with my complaints, that was a week ago,I never heard back, and that is fine.
My goal now is to simply inform future potential buyers to new garden plants.com what they are in for,if deciding to place an order with Pete.
As I stated at begining of this review,I placed an order with this company, based on trusting to some degree the reviews on this site.
I now honestly believe that Pete the owner of newgardenplants.com placed the posative reviews of his plants, and packaging on this site.
Otherwise wouldnt he have been sure to make sure someone who spent so much money,at his store, was satisfied, atleast the second time around?
Either way next year I will shop directly at the proven winners online site. They are wonderful and I have nothing but great things to say about them and how they handle their merchandise and their customers.
They are proven winners, and newgardenplants....proven losers!
I hope this review saves someone the trouble aggravation and disappointment I went through. Buying flowers is suppose to be fun and enjoyable and Pete finds a way to take all that away....and add a headache, and some bugs....EWW!
BUYER BEWARE!!!
