Positive | ced219 (1 review) | On Mar 26, 2023, ced219 Kannapolis, NC wrote: I have gotten many plants from NNN over the past decade or so. I am a couple hundred miles away, so I give them a call and chat with them about what I'm looking for. They are always tremendously helpful and are able to offer suggestions of plants I have thought of that might be right for my site and conditions. Their recommendations have resulted in my having some new "favorite" plants! When I receive the packaged, mailed plants from them, they arrive in better condition than if I had bought them in person at a place right up the road. They do an extraordinary job of packing plants for shipping! I recommend NNN to everyone I know who is looking for native plants to purchase. |
Positive | scaudell (2 reviews) | On Nov 20, 2022, scaudell Durham, NC wrote: Nearly Native Nursery is awesome! I was hunting an unusual oak and, of course, they stocked it. They were great about informing about shipping times. I've ordered plants mail order for years but I have never received one as well packed as this one. I told them that the only way it could be damaged in shipping would be if the delivery truck ran over the box! I will order from them again. |
Positive | pjlight (1 review) | On Oct 31, 2022, pjlight McDonough, GA (Zone 7b) wrote: I contacted Nearly Native Nursery about growing 18 Georgia Asters for us because they were unavailable anywhere else. NNN was a delight to work with. They were very helpful, communicating with us a number of times via email. I picked the plants up in person and enjoyed conversing with Jim and Debi. The asters were all beautiful, healthy plants. I planted them in September. So far, we've had a few flowers, and there are many buds that we expect will open soon. They are gorgeous! |
Positive | NancyinVa (1 review) | On Oct 31, 2022, NancyinVa Charlottesville, VA wrote: This nursery offers a fabulous variety of native plants, including many hard-to-find items like Alabama croton, leatherwood, two-winged silverbell, chalk maple, etc. The owners, Debi and Jim Rodgers, have been wonderfully generous with their time, talking with me on the phone about how to care for the plants they ship to me. Their packaging is excellent: plants are in soil, wrapped in moistened brown paper, followed by plastic bags. They're taped into their boxes so they can't move during shipping. The plants always arrive in great condition. Thank you, Jim and Debi! |

Positive | Carpflounderson (1 review) | On Jun 5, 2021, Carpflounderson Fortson, GA wrote: Traveled from Columbus, GA today to visit Fayetteville and stop by this unknown nursery we'd read about. My husband and I were blown away by the place. Very unassuming from the entrance but it is a hidden treasure of some of the most interesting specimens that we've ever seen.We don't have an extensive knowledge of native plants so today was extremely educational and fun. These folks are passionate about their plants. They will take as much time with you to talk and answer questions and no pressure to buy. The property is jam packed with really healthy and pretty plants. It is worth the trip even if you don't live in the vicinity but want a really unique experience. You will not be disappointed. We plan on returning in the near future when we get a chance. Thank you to owners Jim and Debbie for a real labor of love. Very inspirational. |

Positive | robertbirder (1 review) | On Apr 8, 2021, robertbirder Washington, DC wrote: Debbie was very helpful in suggesting native vacciniums for hot DC summers to attract birds (and hopefully distract them from my blueberry bushes!). The 2 V. myrsinites I ordered came quickly and were very large for 3-gallon pots, flowering with some berries already! They look great. |
Positive | richardkarmar (1 review) | On Apr 7, 2021, richardkarmar Griffin, GA wrote: We bought an older home and decided that since there was no landscaping left by previous gardeners that we wanted to have exclusively native species in our landscape. We took the time to drive 30 minutes to Nearly Native Nursery, just to try them out. Jim and Debbie, the owners, were very knowledgeable and helpful. Jim taught us about the plants and didn't just sell us something. He took the time to learn the conditions where we were planting and offered suggestions on other plants that would do well there as well. We will be returning to add to our garden. |
Positive | susantodd (1 review) | On Mar 25, 2021, susantodd Conyers, GA wrote: I visited Nearly Native Nursery yesterday and was amazed at the amount of hard to find native plants. The owners, Jim and Debi, were a pleasure to work with and very knowledgeable. Plants are healthy and well grown. This is a great "field trip" for any native gardener needing to get out of the house. There is lots of room to walk around, see the plants and feel safe. |
Positive | Lovteechin (1 review) | On Mar 20, 2021, Lovteechin Peachtree City, GA wrote: Nearly Native operates a few miles from my home in Georgia. Today I visited for the first time looking to add native plants to my yard. I was delighted by the welcoming atmosphere and operators, Jim and Debbie. There were MANY plants, shrubs and trees for sale with descriptions giving their name, growth expectations, light requirement and native area. Jim is very knowledgeable, gave advice as to soil requirements and invasive plants ( I inquired) and was very easy to speak with and not at all pushy. The nursery has paths to see how many of the plants he sells grow to maturity and walking them is pleasant. I highly recommend visiting this nursery! |

Positive | vijaya06 (1 review) | On Dec 19, 2020, vijaya06 Atlanta, GA wrote: For the last couple of years I have visited Nearly Native nursery and bought native plants from them. I visited the nursery first time late spring last year, and was blown away by the beauty of the blooms and the spontaneity and variety of plants. Jim was very generous with his time, walking me through the nursery and introducing me, a novice, to native Georgia plants and their special characteristics. Jim and Debbie literally dig the plant out of the ground, pot it in front of you and give it to you. They are knowledgeable and they care deeply about native plants and the life forms that depend on such plants. I am very glad to have found this place. |
Positive | robjohn60 (1 review) | On Dec 16, 2020, robjohn60 Millbrook, AL wrote: Absolutely wonderful place and owners. They freely gave advice and suggestions. Very knowledgeable and kind. The largest selection of natives I've seen yet. I drove 2.5 hours from Alabama and it was well worth the time. Wish I had drove a bigger vehicle so I could buy more...who doesnt want more plants? |
Positive | sophie1950 (1 review) | On Dec 6, 2020, sophie1950 South Greenfield, MO (Zone 6a) wrote: The proprietors were very generous with their time and knowledge, and helped me decide whether bottlebrush buckeye might be a good addition to our landscape (as we are out of its endemic area). They were frank that the plants they had were small, two year old plants. The price was right for me to purchase 3, and they sent a spare also. The plants received were well rooted, extremely well packed (to the point of being a bit tricky to remove) and they all appeared healthy. The proprietors had advised that we wait until the plants were dormant for shipping, even though later than expected due to a long late fall. I strongly recommend Nearly Native Nursery, especially if you crave the one-on-one conversations with the growers of the plants, verses a 'big box' experience. |
Positive | UGAnatureGirl (1 review) | On Dec 5, 2020, UGAnatureGirl Griffin, GA wrote: Great selection of natives at this mom-and-pop nursery! Staff were friendly and helpful, and I went home with some amazing trees, shrubs and perennials. Will be back! |
Positive | sdurham (1 review) | On Nov 29, 2020, sdurham Alpharetta, GA wrote: We recently visited Nearly Native Nursery just to gather information - hoping for some guidance and advice regarding a screen we needed to plant between us and neighbors. Jim was an outstanding host. He was very generous with his time and his knowledge, and his enthusiasm for plants is infectious. As he gave us a tour of his gardens, Jim explained the intricacies of many plants, giving us lots of options for our screen. The knowledge he imparted and the extensive selection of plants that we saw gave us confidence and enthusiasm for successful screen and also renewed our commitment to native plants. I look forward to making a future trip to Nearly Native to purchase many of the plants that we saw. |

Positive | sunrise123 (1 review) | On Oct 24, 2020, sunrise123 Atlanta, GA wrote: Debbie and Jim set aside their busy activities to walk a novice through their extensive and fabulously healthy plant material to help with selections for specific yard locations and needs. They are a walking handbook of everything 'native plant ' and I learned a tremendous amount in the most beautiful setting. Their honesty with what I did and didn't need impressed me tremendously. In my mind there is nowhere else but here for your native plant needs, and Georgia has a lot of native plant needs, so let's do this! |

Positive | msteal (1 review) | On Apr 23, 2020, msteal Mableton, GA wrote: Some of the most knowledgeable folks I've found for native plants, what a great find! If you get a chance to visit it's well worth your time. They don't just have the main varieties of common plants, they have many different species and subspecies. I could have stayed a week. |
Positive | merrybrodie (1 review) | On Jan 20, 2020, merrybrodie Atlanta, GA wrote: I've been watching their website for Rainlily bulbs (zephyranthes candida) for a while. Got them! Very hard to find. Other online companies try to ship from China and you just lose your money. I went in person and found the nursery especially relaxing and entertaining. Not only got the bulbs but two other items for my Pollinator Garden. Lyre-leaf sage and Spiderwort. Again, hard to source items. So glad I found aNNN. I'll try the online order next, but the personal visit shows just how much the owners care about their plants and their customers. |

Luckily, the plant selection and the knowledge and kindness of Jim and his wife, Debi, are still the same. Southeastern native plants can be difficult to find, so it's great to know Nearly Native is still growing strong. |

Positive | DrJosephWarren (1 review) | On Oct 16, 2019, DrJosephWarren Bowman, GA wrote: I recently visited Nearly Native Nursery and had a wonderful experience. Jim and Debi have six acres devoted to native plants, many of them edible (I am interested in permaculture). It is one of the most unique places I have ever seen and I came back home with a load of very healthy stock to add to my collection. Besides, Jim gave me a leisurely tour of their nursery and I found him to be one of the most proficient naturalists as well as easy going, unassuming, pleasant, and helpful. I wish only that I had had more time to visit. They showed no interest in having me leave but I had a long drive to get back home. This is one of the unsung wonders of Georgia nursery-gardens, and they are doing a commendable job of saving Georgia native plants from development and loss of habitat. I came as a customer and left as a friend. Try it. I am sure it will be a positive experience. |

Customer service was great and the trees arrived in good condition. I'm posting this review in 2019 so I can show how the trees are doing after 5 years growing in my yard in south Texas - posting links to my website where I have tracked their progress over the years. The Longleaf Pine, Shagbark Hickory, American Holly, Cherrybark Oak, Eastern Red Cedar, Water Tupelo, and Sweetbay Magnolia are all doing great. Below are links to the individual trees. |
