St. Clare Heirloom Seeds is a great company. I was reminded when I went to make my order and pulled out my old seed packets that they pack their seeds in small plastic zip bags, inside the paper one. Especially in the case of tiny lettuce seeds, etc, this is such a helpful practice!

The company has great customer service and will communicate in a personal and warm way about any question or what have you. The shipping is fast and reasonable, and they tucked in a free seed packet with my order!

I highly recommend this company!

Great selection of open pollinated and heirloom varieties of vegetable and flower seeds from a family run business. Love the fact that the seeds are not only in the normal paper packet with instructions etc, but are also inside small ziplock bags for saving unused seeds. Lightning quick response to a question after ordering. Very quick shipping in well protected packaging. Highly recommend

St. Clare is really, really quick to ship out their stock. They also surprisingly threw in a free packet of watermelon seeds with my order. Very fair prices for heirloom seeds and a wonderful selection, too! Seeds arrive in illustrated paper envelopes containing labeled zip-lock bags for easy storing in the fridge (a helpful tip I picked up from the newsletter). The St. Clare Heirloom Seeds Website is informative and easy to navigate. I'm happy to help support a small family-run business with my purchase. I am eager to start my family's first real vegetable garden (with some flowers as well) thanks to the good people at St. Clare's!

The seeds that I ordered arrived very quickly (much faster than I would have expected). They were a gift and it isn't time for planting at the moment so I can't review how well they grow, but everything looks great. Also, the company was kind enough to include a personal note at the bottom of the invoice as well as one additional bag of seeds for free. Would recommend this family business to others.

I ordered several seed packets toward the end of July, received them 8 days later. Loved that the seeds were in a zip lock bag inside the packet & the personal note. I mostly ordered to get a few flower varieties for next spring, but I planted a couple things for fall, the cucumbers & carrots germinated well. Unfortunately due to very heavy rain I lost the carrots, but there was enough to replant & everything is now growing nicely. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

Received seeds quickly, and I find the experience charming. There was a personal note wishing me God's blessings from the owners. The packages are simple and easy to read, with clear planting instructions. The information about soil temperature was especially welcome. And the seeds, unlike with most commercial seed packs, are inside a plastic bag within the envelope, a nice touch. The prices were also extremely good compared to what is in our local Tractor Supply. So I am well satisfied and expecting good results later this summer.

Dear WIOrganic,

Thank you for your review highlighting this issue. We appreciate your time, and review.

We would like to point out though, that this reviewer’s original review was not based on our company's behavior (as they say here), rather it was based on their dislike of a statement on our website, and our beliefs. Their review said they had good service in the past and liked our seeds, but that after seeing our statement and beliefs recently they no longer wanted to purchase from us.

Their original (negative rating) review, and the other reviewers’ recent negative ratings, which were removed by Dave's Garden, had nothing to do with St. Clare’s customer service or products. That is why Dave's Garden removed the reviews. We had requested the reviews be changed to neutral, as the reviewers would not do so. The site chose to just remove them, saying: "We have removed the negative reviews that are not based on the service you provide."
We had a number of people, with zero purchases, or customer service experience with us, leaving negative reviews here on Dave’s Garden, merely because they do not like our beliefs. They were very negative in their speech, and called us names or derided us, and said we are hateful or racist. We have no problem with a person speaking their feelings or opinions, but their rating of us should be neutral then, if it is based on feelings about beliefs, rather than service.

Here is the statement from our site they did not like: “We are Pro-God, Pro-Life, and Pro-America, We Support the 2nd Amendment, Our Troops and Veterans, Our Police Officers, and All Politicians Who Truly Believe in and Work for All of the Above. Viva Cristo Rey! (Long Live Christ the King!) God Bless America, Land of the Free!”

Our statement on our home page is striving to stand up in some small way for truth, goodness, belief in God, and the beliefs our nation was founded on. We see the world changing and much corruption out there. There is not a whole lot we can do to change this, but we can speak truth, and this is what we are doing with our statement. Yes, we know there is corruption out there in the police force, the government, church, etc. But, we are speaking up for and standing with those who are not corrupt, who daily go to work, and strive to do right, to live for God and good, who deserve support, and to know they are not alone!

It is unfair for a person to leave a negative review here on this site, which goes against our ranking in the Watchdog Top 30, if they have had nothing but good service and positive results with our seeds, or in other cases have never had experience with us as a customer, or even personally conversed with us on the issue that offends them, and experienced our customer service. We have worked very hard to give the best service we can, even through the most difficult times our family has endured. We have striven to go over and above normal customer service so many times. When a customer has a problem with our products or service, we strive to address it immediately, and make things right. These are the things a company rating is supposed to be based on.

A negative review takes away 5 points to every positive review we receive here. It would not be fair to have this effect, when we did nothing wrong to deserve that. That factor is meant to keep the checks and balance when a company is giving very poor service, or has poor products. It makes sense, and we appreciate it’s reasoning. If we gave really poor service on an incident, we would humbly accept a negative rating.
We also would like to add, we do not(as questioned in this review) censor reviews of our company’s products or services ever. The only reviews we would deem not appropriate/fair are ratings based solely on dislike of our beliefs. That is not a rating, and anyone who wants to can see the same things that this reviewer found offensive merely by visiting our website.

We truly wish you the best, and harbor no ill-will, nor will we request this review/rating removed or changed, as it does not unfairly affect our ratings(as a neutral), which we have earned by hard work over the years we have been with Dave’s Garden and serving our gardening friends. May God bless and keep you!

Sincerely,
John, Sarah, and Family

Yes, we try really hard to ship quickly, which can be difficult to keep up being a family run operation, and life in the midst of things. :-) We are grateful when customers kindly are understanding when we have a seasonal rush or after a sale when we have been overwhelmed with orders, it may take a little more time to ship out. Thanks for mentioning that, and understanding. We can't tell you how much we appreciate that. We do try to let customers know when we can if we get something back in stock they asked about, as you mentioned(may forget from time to time, or be unable to at times, depending on things like being overwhelmed with medical needs of a child or such.), but we try to give the service we would like ourselves. These folks are FAST in filling their orders! This is the first time I've ordered from this company. I placed an online order for seeds on Sunday, Jan. 18; the seeds arrived in the mail today, Thursday, Jan. 22 --- and remember that Monday was a national holiday.

I also placed an order for worm casts and look forward to getting that.

I like that they specialize in open-pollinated varieties. Selection isn't huge, but they seem to have done a good job of vetting what they offer. I've had bad experiences with mail order houses that offer everything plus the kitchen sink without regard to whether a particular variety is a good grower, has good flavor, etc. If the germination rate is on a par with their service, St. Clare's will have a repeat customer in me.

On April 19th, 2015, MollyBlooms added the following:

Started some of the seeds about a week ago (the other varieties I ordered do better with direct sowing rather than being started indoors). So far, excellent germination. The heirloom tomatoes mix was up in about five days and the peppers are now starting to sprout.
I also ordered worm casts from this company and used them to top-dress some ailing tropical-to-tender plants that I overwintered in a cool greenhouse. ("Cool" became "life-threatening" when the heat failed in February.) The plants, including two pink banana trees, are definitely the worse for wear after a long, dark winter, but within a week of my applying the worm casts, they are already doing much better and making new growth. I'm ordering more worm casts from St. Clare's as I do quite a bit of container gardening and hate to replace the potting soil year after year. Using worm casts seems like an effective way to rejuvenate existing soil.
On June 11th, 2015, MollyBlooms added the following:

It's official: St. Clare's is now my favorite source for seeds. My order included a seed mix of heirloom tomatoes -- a fine idea, because I like heirlooms but don't like ordering a dozen packets to get some variety in what I plant. My tomato plants are now over 3" high with two blossom sets each, which is something of a miracle given the late-May chill we had here, and they are continuing to grow like gangbusters. Same for the broccoli plants, which are huge and thriving. We've already had three salads from the lettuce seeds from St. Clare's.
Now for the worm casts: I have two pink banana trees, grown from seed, which took a hit when the heat went out in my greenhouse and they died back to the roots. I scratched some of St. Clare's worm casts into the soil and said a prayer. Now each plant is over 2" tall and looks great.
On August 13th, 2015, MollyBlooms added the following:

This is the best yield/quality of tomatoes I've had in years. I did re-site my container garden, which may have helped, but the flavor and performance of these heirloom tomatoes is out of this world. Very pleased.
On November 16th, 2015, MollyBlooms added the following:

I placed an order this morning and by 10:30 I had an e-mail confirming that my order had shipped! The speed is impressive but the communications are even more so. Wish this was the industry standard; I feel like sharing this with the several online nurseries that somehow cannot notify the customer when an order has shipped/will ship. Thanks, St. Clare's!
On May 1st, 2016, MollyBlooms added the following:

Received my order of worm casts with St. Clare's usual lightning speed, and I've top dressed my container gardens with it. A last-season's pepper plant that I had pretty much given up on shot up a foot and covered itself in leaves and buds following an application. The seeds I ordered have a very high germination rate Very pleased with this company as always!
On February 26th, 2021, MollyBlooms added the following:

Ordered from St. Clare Seeds yet again this year, and received the same speedy service as always. They are my go-to seed source every year.

None of this is new; St. Clare's is the same great family-owned company they've always been. I am posting because "cancel culture" has reared its ugly head on St. Clare's ratings page. Fortunately, there are only three disgruntled people who felt it necessary to publicly attack St. Clare's and disparage this fine business. I'm glad that the vast majority of people on this site understand that the reviews are their honest evaluations of a company's products and services. A string of bad reviews can be devastating to a business, but you people who posted the negative reviews know that, of course -- that's the whole point. It's not enough for you folks to just not shop with St. Clare's, is it? No, you're out to shame them and punish them and label these decent people, who you do not know, as "racist." You say they're "divisive"? Look in the mirror.

Been a customer of these folks for many years.

In light of the huge surge in gardening caused by Covid it is great to see a company holding true to providing the best service possible. Many large companies are choosing to "tweak" tried and true varieties in order to come up with a "new" variation to trademark and skyrocket prices. Not so with heirloom seed companies, like this one, that take the non-gmo pledge and adhere to the heirloom principles of seed saving. I mean $6-$7 for 20 seeds from some of these large companies!

And then there is shipping. $4.00 flat shipping seems right in line with the going postal rates plus a little to cover packaging and labor. Some of these big guys are double or triple that. And it goes up exponentially.

As someone who has gardened for 30 years and counting I know the value of these small seed purveyors and I hope folks will flock to all these small and heirloom sellers, or they may not be here for long!

It's too bad politics must enter into such a great environmentally sound hobby as heirloom gardening. If you feel this strongly, by all means look elsewhere. Those are the rights many veterans have given to you free of charge.

Our order arrived quickly and was accurate. Enjoyed using their welcome discount for new newsletter sign-ups, and look forward to purchasing from them again in the future. Love supporting family owned businesses— especially Catholic ones!

I found several varieties of seeds I was interested in planting, flowers and lettuce this order. I received my order promptly and they included 2 packets of free seeds that were consistent with what I was ordering which was a nice addition. I enjoyed the newsletter as well.

I like this company. They put their seeds in little plastic zip close bags within the paper envelopes. Their seed prices are very good and better if you catch their sales. Shipping price is awesome.
