Ordered seed for 2 vegetables (3 varieties of 1 and 2 of the other) plus 1 companion crop (6 total). Germination rates for the first vegetable varities were 50%, 40% and 10%. Seed from the 2nd vegetable and companion crop failed to germinate. Germination rates for seed purchased from other sources was at least 84%.
Monetary loss for the seed purchases is one thing but time lost for the failed germination is worst.
Contacted the company weeks ago but have yet received a reply.
Also noticed that they do not provide user reviews for their products.

On April 26th, 2021, omrdg changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

Seeds from 1 vegetable were slower to germinate than those purchased from another source but did finally emerge in satisfactory numbers.
Seed from the second vegetable are reported to germinate at a higher temperture than the other varities also purchased from another source.
Higher temperature may also be required for the companion crop.
Still would like a response from the company.

I have been buying seed and plants from Uf for well over a year now.
I am a small scale farm that only spends around $200-$500/mo through them.
The seeds have germinated well and I feel that these seeds have been as advertised. (very good experience)
The only good contact to UF is through the phone. Emails do not work if you need information, complaints, help.... you will not get a reply. (My biggest complaint!) (negative experience)
example: I wanted to ask them to seal their bulk seed bags better. Tried twice on their forum/email. I still have a 5 lbs of rutabaga seed pickup on this last months order floating around with my other seed packets in a card board box while taped up by USPS. ok, two things to complain about so only a neutral rating.
I still order seeds and fruits through them.

Among other things ordered Carolina Reaper.

Seeds arrived very quickly and everything appears to be in order! Always a good sign in my experience.

I am a little worried about the reaper seeds as I know a few people who have been duped for seeds (not from this seller).

Also on Pepper Joes website, he insists anything not from him or Smokin Ed, is fake. So not sure what to make of all that.

As this is my first experience with this seller I will have to find out.

So planting a couple now under my grow lights so I don't waste green house space next year, will keep updating!

This is my 3rd year ordering from Urban Seeds. I ordered last fall, received part of my order and waited for the spring shipping dates to get the rest (potatoes and horseradish). I contacted them by phone and 4 times by e-mail as I had not received my order by the normal planting time. I got no response until I mentioned I would report them to the Better Business Bureau. Then I got an instant response: "Don't know what happened with this order. Sorry for the inconvenience." So no purple potatoes or horseradish this year. Also zero sprouting of 250 fennel seeds. They did refund, but I am very leery to order again. I was refunded the money I had paid last fall.

I've ordered from this company 4 times, but my most recent order has yet to arrive and I'm struggling to get in touch with anyone. I placed my order on April 9 and contacted them on May 11 to ask for an update on when it would ship, and I was told it would ship "this week." It is now June 5 and I haven't heard or seen anything from them. I have emailed twice and called 6 times and can't get an update from anyone. If I don't hear back this week, I will change my review to a negative and take my business elsewhere.

I ordered some seeds and 6 Issai self-fertile kiwi plants on February 13, 2015. The seeds were received promptly. On May 2 I received 6 kiwi plants, 2 labeled male, and 2 labeled female with no cultivar name. Labels indicated that both male and female are needed for fruit. I tried to reach the company by phone, but a recorded message said the best way to reach them is via email. I emailed asking how to return the plants and requesting the correct Issai plants that I ordered. Since I did not get a prompt response, I have contacted my credit card company to dispute the charge to my card.

On May 7th, 2015, LenchoD changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

On May 7, Noah emailed that they were out of the Issai for the season. He indicated that I could keep what had been sent in error and that my credit card would be credited for the order.

I ordered Utah Celery, Hailstone Radish, Cow Horn Okra and Red Pontiac potato seed from Urban Farmer seeds in 2012.

My order shipped very quickly and I received everything I had ordered. I was fairly impressed with their creativity concerning their use of recycled magazines for seed packets.

To be fair, if I had just ordered the Red Pontiac seed potato I would be giving a Positive comment instead of a neutral comment.

However, my Utah celery had a 0% germination rate, both indoor and outdoor. The "Cow Horn Okra" either was impure seed or improperly marked, as the okra that grew from the seed was most definately a "Star of David" type variety; short, fat okra that, when cut into cross-sections clearly looked like a star of david.

I never planted the Hailstone radish seed as I ran out of room. I do plan to try that packet this year as I have almost 2000 sq ft more than last year, Though I do expect a low germination rate since it is old seed.

The Red Pontiac seed grew amazingly. True to variety and huge yields; between 20-25 tubers per plant!!

I ordered the Seedless Sweet Tomato seed hybrid this year (2013) so I will see how that goes but for now all I can give is a neutral rating because I never contacted the company with my concerns.

I just received an unsolicited email from Urban Farmer that gave an order form and some sort of discount if I ordered before a certain date/ordered using that form. Very odd. I am not quite sure how they got my email (I suspect it was from my recent updating of my National Gardening Club information)Anyway, I think it is a pretty poor way of doing business by spaming folks.

Hi Kin,

I'm the owner of Urban Farmer Seeds and I don't apperciate you writing the comment about my company. We have never once sent a solicited email to anyone. We email only people who have specifically signed up to receive our order form at [HYPERLINK@www.ufseeds.com] (please visit it so it rejogs your memory). THIS IS A FACT! You must have put your email address in our list and you were added to our email order form sent out. I'm sorry if you accidentally signed up but I wish you would have contacted us first before posting your comment. I will remove you from our list if you give me your email.

Thanks,
Noah Herron
Urban Farmer

I emailed them back stating that after receiving their email I dug into the matter further and found that my boyfriend in a fit of "helping me" signed me up for lots of catalogs without my permission or knowledge. I appologized for the mistake and hope that this public appology also helps.
I am still keeping this neutral as I have never used them and have no knowledge of them at all. (I don't belive in commententing postitive if I have never tried them). As far as this matter goes. Since they helped me to resolve a household issue this matter was resolved POSITIVE. Anything else is up to the reader.

Thank you,
Kin2mice
