Comments regarding Romence Gardens & Greenhouses

My best experience ordering live plants online. From the email communication to the packing to the robustness of the double knockout rosebushes... everything was as good as the other happy customers have stated. You could tell that a lot of effort was spent packaging the rosebushes in their gallon pots so no dirt would spill out and the leaves wouldn't be damaged. If I can't find other plants at local nurseries, then I would have no problem ordering from them again.

I ordered most recently in May (2011): Outstanding packing, very fast shipping, excellent vigorous plants. I highly recommend this vendor. I ordered 3 peonies, 5 trays of Pachysandra, and a blue muffin viburnum. They were packed like they would be if they were Faberge eggs. Not a leaf was even mussed. Fantastic. I also ordered bulbs last fall and they came up well this spring.

Romence has a great selection, and two of the four plants I received from them were simply the largest and healthiest plants I've ever bought online. The other two were comparable to other reputable online sellers. All were very carefully packaged.

It's worth ordering four plants in the same size pots as these will ship for the same cost as a single plant.

I just unpacked my order of 12 perennials and I'm not sure which was more impressive: the plants, the packaging, or the prices! The service was very good, they kept me abreast of the order and the plants were in perfect condition upon arrival. I order a lot of plants and Romence's excellent packaging has far exceeded anything else I've ever received.
They are #1 in my opinion. I'll definitely be ordering from them again.

I am rating this company's customer service. Unfortunately the roses I ordered were unavailable, but what I thought stood out was that they called to tell me rather than an impersonal email. The girl apologized and explained that their Black Magic Roses didn't survive the winter. I was disappointed, but their service would have me order again.

First time I have ordered plants on line, and I would not hesitate to order from this company again. Good communication, excellent packaging. No complaints at all.

Visited Romence three days ago. If anyone is looking for the Montauk daisies(Nippon) they are in stock despite their website stating otherwise. They told me it is difficult to keep the site updated at this time of year. I was thrilled to find them since I have been looking for them for awhile.

I have been looking for Heucherella 'Redstone Falls' for months. This spring I bought some small plant plugs from another vendor and will have to wait a year before they will be big enough to plant out side. I found Romence Gardens website by accident while on Dave’s Garden site. They had the plants and they were only $3.00 more then what I spent for the small plugs. I ordered them. They arrived today after only 5 days from the time I ordered them. They were huge, healthy specimen plants in large pots, that were packaged so well that not one of the leaves were broken and none of the potting mix was spilled in shipment. I will order from this company again. They are honest and know how to give great customer service. You get value for your money, excellent communication and delivery in a timely manner. What more could you ask for? They have my business.

I buy a lot of plants online, and recently placed an order for the first time with Romence. My order (all annual flowers) was delivered today and these are by far the biggest and healthiest plants I have ever received via mail-order. Would definitely order again!

After 20+ years of buying mail-order, somebody finally got it right! The communications and shipping---great. The packaging---over the top. The price---best value on the internet. But---the thing that ultimately matters the most---the plant material---absolutely top notch. I cannot rave enough about their plants.

I have never received plants of this quality via the mail---ever. When I opened the boxes today, the huge plants looked as though I just bought them at my local nursery and put them in a box for the ride home---they were that good! Unbelievable!

Expert packaging- perfect shipping and timing. I expected the hollyhocks to be around 4 inches but they were 15 inches or more- all 30 of them!

I have been ordering plants online for multiple years now. Each spring I have the fun of opening my shipment and carefully attending to the needs of my newly arrived family.

Today I received five healthy, thick and full spireas from Romence Gardens. They were each shipped in their own box, securely packaged in a clever manner which did not require the use of peanuts and was easy to unpack. There was no damage at all to any of the plants. They were in tall pots and full of roots. The plants were perfect for transplanting.

I rely on mail order for many plants each season as there is only one small family owned nursery nearby and my only other choice is Home Depot. The local nursery is nice and the people are friendly and helpful, but they just don't always have what I'm looking for. So I appreciate places like Romence Gardens that offers such healthy stock and also knows how to pack the plants for shipping. I will definitely check with them again when looking for something that is unavailable locally.

I am very very happy with the Anemone Robustissima plants that arrived today. They are very large and healthy, --and most have some blooms with plenty more buds. They were packed in a way that held in the moisture during shipping. I'm so impressed.

BEST plants available on the internet! I have done a LOT of internet plant-shopping over the last 3 years, and hands down, Romence is the best: these are the largest, fullest, healthiest plants I've ever received. I placed two orders from Romence this summer, both for perennials. The selection is excellent-many that are a bit 'off the beaten path', so to speak, as well as many classic, tried-and-true varieties. I received extremely large, full, healthy plants. Most of their plants are listed as gallon-sized (which I love!), some are quarts (and still big!); they shipped the plants in big, tall boxes, and I don't think they cut any of them back at all! The 'Chocolate' eupatorium,' tradescantia 'Concorde Grape,' and belamcanda chinensis that I received must have been close to 2 feet tall! Most came with buds and flowers. All have taken off in my garden without missing a beat. The prices are totally reasonable, with less shipping charges, than any place I've ordered from. They give you a percentage off if you order over a certain amount...they list what number of plants gives you the most economical shipping charge, love that...my plants got shipped very fast; in fact I placed one order in the wee hours of the morning on a Sunday, and they had shipped out my plants that Monday afternoon! They are really the best, and I have ordered from many! They really deserve to be DG tops for perennials. I see that they are top for annuals but I am just not an annual person. I'm sure they are great for those too. Definitely give them a try.

I ordered a climbing Eden rose bush from this company, and received it in 3 days! I was so excited when I opened up the package. The rose bush was HUGE and healthy! It had roses covered all over it:) The packaging was exceptional, and their website was very professional and easy to navigate. I also received detailed instructions on how to plant my rose bush. I am so thankful for such a good experience, because this rose bush was purchased for my 10 year wedding anniversary. This company made it all more special:)

Wow! Super fast shipment of very large and very healthy plants that are not locally available. I have never received better service, better packing, better plants for a better price. I agree with other posters that this company should be on the top 30 list. I will definitely be ordering from them again very soon.

Wow what a wonderful company to buy from, they really seem to appreciate the business. I received my order the next day in Ohio. The plants were exceptionally packed and very large for the money. I love being able to get 1 gallon healthy plants. I will definately buy from them again. they shoud be in the top 30 at Dave's Garden.

Order the Rebecca's Red Clematis. Great customer service and ship the product on time. The plants arrive in good condition and the package designed to deliver the plants are great. Even though the shipping cost is a little bit high, it is definitely worth it since the plants all arrive not damaged. Will definitely order from them again.

Just received my Lobelia's and my Geum. Huge and Healthy looking, Thankyou! I also received them in one day from when they shipped, awesome!They were very well packed too :)

Last year I bought 2 lantana plants and was very pleased.

Ordered a variety of perennials including new dahlia cultivars that I couldn't find elsewhere.

Fed Ex destroyed one of the boxes, despite the incredible care taken to packaging the plants. Plants themselves were healthy and large. Exactly what I would expect from a nursery around the corner.

Romence immediately shipped out replacements no questions asked. I had the replacement plants before I had finished planting the original order.

The best mail order nursery experience I've had.

try to oder based on their packing, b/c they seem to charge by the box, not by the plant. Ordered one perenial, it came in a 4X4 container. very nice sized plant with great roots. packed well.

The Take-Home Message:
Without me asking, they sent me a picture of the actual plant I was buying just to make sure I would be happy with my purchase. Outstanding customer service!

The Story:
I have done my share of internet plant buying (especially for hard-to-find cultivars) and happened upon Romence while I was looking for Climbing Hydrangea ‘Firefly’. To my delight, they actually had a 2 gal-sized plant which I ordered right away. I had already bought this plant from a different vendor a few weeks ago and was very disappointed by the size and health of the plant that arrived (One stem, four leaves, in a 3” pot…and this was a from a Watchdog 30 company). The day after ordering from Romence, I received an email with a picture of ‘Firefly’ attached…apparently the plants had not been performing the way the perennial manager had hoped and they wanted me to take a look at the exact plant I was buying, just to make sure I would be happy with it and still wanted to buy it! The irony is that the picture was of the best looking, largest ‘Firefly’ I have ever seen!! That level of unsolicited concern for their customer’s happiness is something you simply cannot find anywhere else. I am still floored by it! Romence has a customer for life.

I recently bought 4 asarum europaeum, which I previously had difficulty finding, the plants I received were much bigger then I expected and looked very healthy. An excellent value and I look forward to placing future orders.

I ordered a Pink Knockout Rose and Lantanas I could not locate locally. Being a skeptic about shipping live plants imagine my surprise when the packages arrived with my plants 1)Uncrowded 2)Firmly secured to interior supports 3)Fresh and great shape and 4) Looking as If I picked them up at a nursery this morning and all that was after they were handled by FEDEX from Michigan to the Texas Gulf Coast. I will not be shopping anywhere else - Romence Gardens is my new online plant home!!!!!

Can't wait to order from them again. Excellent communication. Easy to navigate website. Best of all, the plants arrived in fantastic condition.

Romence Gardens far surpassed my expectations in customer service, on-time delivery, and plant quality. Because one of the four echinaceas I ordered was out of stock, I received both an email and a phone call from owner Chris to notify me. Chris was courteous and helpful. Additional emails kept me advised of the delivery date. When my coneflowers arrived today, I was delighted to see how healthy and robust they were and how well they were packaged. Overall, a truly wonderful experience that restores my faith in mail order shopping for plants. Romence is a keeper!

Received today 4 Campanula carpatica 'Blue Clips'. The plants were packed better than anything I have ever received mail order. And that's saying something because I order 80% online. The plants were top, top quality. Their customer service outstanding. They actually called to confirm the shipping method I chose because it was a special circumstance. I'll order again and again I'm sure.

I just received an order of perennials and WOW!!!! Very nicely sized, very healthy, packed beautifully!!!! Order was shipped very quickly after being placed too, Prior to shipping, I got an email advising ne that one plant in my order was a little small, and gave me the opton of shipping now or waiting for more growth. I responded, and immediately got back an email about my decision. That's service!!! You can bet I'll be shopping with them again!!!

This is indeed a great company. Shortly after I placed my order online (the next morning), I received a call from one of the company owners telling me that the leaves on one of my hostas was a little smaller than might be expected at this time, but the roots were fine. Would I be OK with that? I was. The order, although I only ordered standard ground shipping, arrived two days later (on a Saturday, no less!) while I was preparing the garden plot. A quantity discount negated the shipping charges. The plants were beautiful, in fine shape, and beautifully packed. A great company to do business with!

What a great company! The website is easy to navigate and the plant descriptions and photos were extremely helpful. My order showed up in just a few days and I have to say this company should write the manual on how to ship plants! The plants were big and beautiful. They didn't seem to suffer one bit in transit. They looked like I just picked them up at my local nursery- in full size pots! Order and shipping notifications were very timely. I would highly recommend this website to anyone.

I just received my order of a High Society climbing rose. I am amazed at the size, quality and packing of the order. It is leafed out and has full buds already blooming. The cost was comparable to my local garden centers, but the rose from Romence is a much better value. An added plus - the customer service I received when I called in the order was perfect.

I took a chance and ordered from Romence before there were any Watchdog reviews. They had the rose that I wanted when no other catalog carried it or had any left in stock.

Their rose was a little more expensive compared to the prices of other catalog nurseries, and with their higher shipping charges it made for a pretty expensive rose. But since Romence had it in stock I decided to take the chance.

The rose arrived on time and in beautiful shape. I was impressed when I opened the carton and saw that the two gallon pot contained a fully leafed out rose bush. Also, I was pretty impressed with the packing. I joked with my wife that this rose must had rode on the truck right next to the driver.

I suppose if there was a downside to this order, it would be that the plant was completely awake when all of my other roses were just waking up. Fortunately we did not have any hard frosts, although I did have to cover it up at night a few times. And the reward is that I have already cut my first tea rose when the others are still a couple of weeks behind.

I can envision buying from Romence Garden again, but not necessarily for roses. I can't argue about the quality and service, but I have no objection to buying less expensive, bare root roses from competitors.

I have done regular business with Two of the Top-30 watchdog companies and never had an issue, so I was a bit hesitant to buy from Romance gardens, but all 6 reviews where positive, good reviews. I placed a fair sized order, prices where great, shipping was fast, service was great, and your emails get answered fast. Romance gardens should be on the top-30 their performance was the best mail order experience I’ve had yet.

This place offers nice large plants and amazing customer service. I placed one small order with them followed by a larger one. Both were shipped on time (one even earlier at my request as it was a gift). Their plants were extremely well packaged and quite large and healthy. FedEx was very rough with their second order resulting in a damaged plant (it looked like someone dropped a wrecking ball on one side of the box) but they plants were packaged so well that despite the rough handling the roots, dirt, and pots remained intact. I emailed them the problem and within a couple of hours I received a response and replacements on the way. Their shipping prices are high if you order 1 plant but if you read their website, you can order 3 more plants of the same size with no shipping increase. Basically it is a per-box price for shipping so if you order 4 plants with the same size pot the shipping actually works out to be really cheap.
