I ordered two clematis, Perl dAzure and Josephine. Both arrived in 3" brown paper sacks. The edged of the sacks failed to protect the fragile stems from breakage during shipping. Two of three stems had been broken. The plants themselves were alive, but were not mature. I don't mean that they were just coming out of dormancy, but from the width of the stems, these were not the same quality or maturity (in age) that I've received from other vendors, e.g. SongSparrow Farms. As clematis folks know, these plants send up larger caliper stems as they mature in years. I notified Hummingbird, contested the charge on AmEx and reordered the same varieties from Songsparrow. I will update my post as this situation evolves. These items were priced similarly to more established, mature specimens from other vendors.

I wrote an email to the nursery and received a reply and a refund on the very same day (Sunday).

It seems as if the picture that I provided convinced them that something was amiss, either with their plants or their shipping.

These folks seem as if they want to do the right thing and I would consider ordering from them again AFTER speaking with them on the phone and firming up details like age of plants, size of rootball, etc. They have indicated that they're already looking into the shipping materials used, so hopefully that issue will be eliminated.
