Bought on-site from the nursery before and was extremely satisfied with the plants. Where else on the East Coast (or anywhere for that matter) were you going to find a container-grown Fagus sylvatica 'Rotundifolia' for a reasonable price. It's really very sad they had to convert to wholesale-only, presumably because they weren't making enough money from retail or mail-order. I'm reminded of a famous nursery in Maryland, similar to Dilworth, but with an even greater selection. When they converted to wholesale in the early 1990s, the selection of what they offered was whittled down to what you can sell to average Joes and Janes at the garden center. I look at that company's website now and think how tragic it is that 75% of what they were selling back then isn't offered anymore. I hope that same fate doesn't befall Dilworth.

UPDATE 6/5/2012:
"Seasons at Dilworth" has returned to retail sales under the same ownership, with a selection of perennials, annuals, vegetables, trees and shrubs. They have a somewhat smaller but still impressive range of selective arboretum material. Notable were highly coveted conifers like Picea 'Skylands' and Abies pindrow. Check them out if you are in the area! I was impressed with the quality and value of the plants and happy with what I bought!

On several occasions I have purchased high quality material from this nursery. Prices vs. size were, in my opinion, more than reasonable. I will continue to buy from Dilworth. Rick is very pleasant and a pleasure to do business with. I recommend this nursery highly. The selection of material ranges from unusual and hard to find to rare.
