I had placed an order with Willis for a number of fruit trees. They were very pleasent and helpful. I had been burned in the past by Ty Ty and was leary about buying online again. I received my order when I expected it, and everything was in beautiful condition. I placed another order recently, but then I found this site which spooked me about the order I placed. I called Willis to cancel the order, but it had shipped immediately. I was upfront and told them I got spooked by the reviews I saw, and without hesitation I was told they would be happy to refund my credit card along with shipping. Again they were helpful and a class act. I kept the order, and the plants arrived in great condition. Too many people have an ax to grind. Lighten up! I should have went with my feelings from my first experience. I'm sorry I let myself get sucked into the bitterness of some of the posters here. It is obvious to me that this is a company with integrity.

These guys really did a nice job. Customer service was polite and honest and they shipped the product ahead of schedule. Shipment arrived beautifully packed. Rootball was wrapped tight encased in gel medium and was quite moist upon unpacking. The 2 crepe myrtles that I received were dormant when I got them and were in the ground at least 2 months before they started to bud out. I thought for sure they were dead but when I called Willis they said to just leave them be and sure enough they came to life. My experience with Willis Orchard was very pleasant and I would definitely use them again.

The website for ordering is very easy to use. My order did come a little late because of the large amount of rain that affected orders in March/April 2009. When I called about my order or emailed for a status, the Willis Orchard person was always polite and patient. At the present, two of the five items ordered (grape vine and blueberry bush) may have been affected by the weather ... my evening email about this condition was responded to the next day with the promised one year guarantee ...I need to package these items and ship back to Willis Orchards ...the items will be replaced in the fall.

I will order from Willis Orchards in the future.

Willis Orchards ...fantastic customer service ...their guarantee is exactly as they state!

Yesterday (9/12/2009), I received the guaranteed replacement for one grape vine and one blueberry bush. I was especially pleased with the condition of these plants which now in the ground using the received planting instructions.

I will definitely order from Willis Orchards again ..their conversation on the phone and their email correspondence was always positive and very cordial in demeaner.

I am excited with receiving my plant return much sooner than expected, and in such great shape.

Thank You Willis Orchards for keeping your word!

I ordered several trees for the first time from this company and when I called them, they were courteous and answered all of my questions before I placed my order related to the type of trees, chill hours, and how to plant them. After planting them and following all directions, one peach tree did not make it. I emailed customer support and within 24 hours had an email back with one suggestion how to check that it was not just delayed. After confirming it was not alive, I was told by their customer support that I can ship it back in exchange for another tree in the fall of equal size and value no questions asked. I then went to ship the tree and found out it would cost $100 to ship back to them, so again emailed them and asked if I could cut the tree in half to ship it back now changing the shipping costs to $20. Again, they replied within 24 hours and had no problem with that. I have had nothing but a positive experience with their customer support and willingness to work with me as a customer. I would recommend them as a reputable and honest company.

Ordered 2 blueberry, 2 fig, and one olive tree on 5/9/09. I received a confirmation email after my payment information was verified, and a shipment notice as well. I was going out of town on a business trip during the intended arrival date for the shipment, so I called and asked to have the shipment delayed, so it would arrive when I was back to plant them.

I had another notice through email that the shipment had gone out anyway, and I emailed Shannon at Willis who confirmed their mistake, and that they would make good on the shipment if it turned out the plants from the first shipment hadn't survived (they didn't, they got left at a neighbors house, who kept them for the week I was gone, not very well).

I emailed Shannon who got Fed Ex to pick up the old shipment, and resent new plants which came in just a few days ago. They are actually more mature plants than I ordered and the blueberry bush had berrys on them ( not enough to eat, but hey they still looked good) the Figs while pruned back had small fig fruit on them as well.

Over all while my order process was a bit shaky the nice people at Willis made sure I got what I paid for, and it all looks very good.

I do understand that others may have had some negative experiences with Willis, but my experience was extremely positive.

I ordered 3 fig trees last fall. They arrived in good condition and I planted them. None of them survived the South Carolina winter for whatever reason. I emailed willis orchards and received a response from shannon that they would replace my figs at no charge. About 1 week later, I received my replacements. They were larger than the ones in the fall and the roots contained a water containing crystal to keep them moist. Hello! although, I'm very new to DG, I have started to write my reviews on certain companies. I purchased two Banana Grand Naine trees from them in late May. I honestly don't remember, exactly how long it was, before I received them but, I think 4 days. We ordered the $45 size, which didn't contain offshoots.

When we recieved tehm, we put them in 5 gallon pots right away, even though they were in 7 gallon pots, at their nursery. also, when we opened the bag, that was taped around the roots, one of the mother bulbs was completely detached from the root system. Now, we really didn't know what to do with it but, didn't want to make the call, to call willis. as they would probably tell us to plant the tree, as is and see what happens. We just dropped the bulbe in the pot, as it would do better there, than over the pasture fence.

It has now been almost 3 weeks, since we received them. We stil have two healthy Banana trees. The tree with the broken bulb produced a full size leaf, even before the tree, with no damage. No, I don't understand it either but, thats what happen. Honestly, it was beautiful, watching the leaf unfold over a 3 day period, into the largest leaf, I've ever put my hands on. Plus, we have two offshoots, coming up from both of those plants. If they take care of us, each time, in this matter, we'll only purchase from them. as we have 5 acres, that we plan to fill up with fruit trees.

Oh yeah, we only made one phone call to the nursery and all questions, were answered promptly and it was a girl named "erin or Aaron" or however it might be spelled. I read the reviews here and it sucks that other people, haven't had good purchases from them. Hope this helps.

This was my first attempt at a home orchard. I was really confused and apprehensive, and almost abandoned the idea completely. I looked at the company website and got useful info and decided to proceed. I made my order, and received a prompt shipment. I did not know what I was supposed to see, so I followed their planting and care instructions.
While planting, I noticed that they shipped me a Rome apple tree instead of the Red Delicious I had ordered. Since my other apple was going to be a Golden Delicious, I would have pollination issues,so I decided to call the company.
I was greeted by a woman who was efficient and courteous. After Informing her of the issue, she told me I would receive a replacement. She was very pleasant and professional.
2 days later, I received the tree. It was gorgeous and healthy. My entire orchard of 8 trees and 3 grapevines are growing wonderfully. My experience with this company was enlightening and rewarding. I am a salesman, and do a great deal of customer service. If anyone has had a problem with this company's service, I would ask them to take a look at themselves as customers.

The blueberries had berries and the kumquat had small oblong fruit already on it. I also got a 4 foot olive tree that was at least 5 feet or more and will look awesome in a pot by my pool. Finally, I also ordered a banana plant that arrived as a large bulb with a green trunk. I really didn't know what to do with it so I called and spoke with a very knowledgable man that told me every thing I needed to know about growing bananas in my area and how I should plant it. The banana leaves are already coming out of the trunk at a very fast rate of growth. I definitely will recommend Willis Orchards and will buy from them again in the Fall.

I called about getting replacements and was assisted by a very nice and professional lady named Cythia. Of coarse, I didn't fuss and cuss about things either. But there was no problem with getting them replaced, as I have had with some other companies. I recently made an on-line purchase of 3 different banana trees, and a Brightwell Blueberry Bush. While waiting for my order to arrive (about 12 days) I ran across this website along with many negative comments about Willis Orchard. I began to get extremely nervous about my order. When my order arrived yesterday afternoon, I was so surprised that I took pictures and decided to post my experience here as well. Of all the on-line orders that I have placed this spring; (Autumn Ridge Nursey, Spring Hill Nursery, Cherry Hill Nursery, Mendocino Maples Nursery, etc...) my order from Willis Orchard was the best packaged, best looking, and most satisfied I had received yet. The blue berry bush was loaded w/ berries. The root system on all 4 plants was immaculate. Even to the point that I had a little difficulty planting them from so much root to spread out. I immediately washed all of the packing gell off of the root system and planted in their locations. I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, but I can assure you that what I experienced from Willis Orchard was nothing near the negative comments I read. Now Autumn Ridge Nursery is a different story but I will not get into that here. I am going to try & post the pictures I took last evening for proof of my statement.

I bought several hundred small pomegranate trees from them in February and they were still dormant from the winter. I trusted Jason when he said he would replace any that did not come out in the spring, and a few did not because of the coldest winter freeze I can remember. I told them that some didn't sprout and they are replacing them without delay. I just bought more trees from them and am going to get them tomorrow. The ones from Gurneys are about 3/8 inch in diameter and the ones from Willis Orchards are about one inch in diameter. The ones from Willis Orchards appear to be several years older and initially appear healthier. Gurneys substituted a dwarf apple tree for a regular apple tree that was out of stock. That was a little disturbing.
I was surprised that they charged my credit card right away although they did not ship the trees for a month. They did ship the trees at the right time for planting but typically for any mail order product, a credit card is not charged until the order ships.

They were in good condition and pruned as I expected as I researched on their website about what to expect. I read their instructions on planting and mixing sand with the soil and watering at appropriate times. Two of them have blumes on them already, except for the Nectarine and Pear which are late fall bloomers so I don't expect to see any real growth until the heat of the summer. I called the company to be reassured about the pruning of the pear tree. Since I am inexperienced I am a little nervous about what the pear is to look like and they were very helpful and very curtious and sweet. I think that after reading some of the unhappy blogs that it's important to impart my wisdom...plants are like children; care, love and be patient with them, research and learn about them, use the community to help you grow them, share them with the world. I heard a quote from someone the other day...plants want to grow, it's in them to survive as it is with us. A little care and they will blossom. I am so happy with my order from Willis that today I ordered Blueberry bushes. This fall I will be ordering Raspberries and grapes.

For any company to take time dealing with small customers such as us posting here is commendable. For the ones lacking a green thumb or needing more hand-holding, maybe a visit to the local nursery may be the better option instead of using a mail-order nursery.

As far as Willis is concerned, I received 40 fantastic quality and sized plants, as well as some prompt, honest, professional, considerate, and well-informed advice. They do care about you having a great experience with them and with your plants.

I have dealt with Willis twice now. I am a balcony gardener and a beginner, and I like to grow my own produce -- not a huge garden, but I populate it with the more expensive or hard-to-find fruits I like to eat often.

My first order with Willis I placed in the summer of 2008. I ordered a 2-2.5 foot brown turkey fig, a fall gold raspberry plant, and a blueberry plant. The fall gold was not shipping until late summer/early fall, so I knew I would have to wait until then for my plants. Standard nursery procedure. Didn't bother me.

About a week after I placed my order a Willis representative contacted me and asked if I already had a blueberry plant. I didn't, and he informed me that my blueberry wouldn't produce unless it had another blueberry to cross-pollinate with. Not only was he knowledgeable about the best pollinators for the type I had ordered, he spent time going over all the rest of the plants in my order telling me what sort of soil, sunlight, water requirements, overwintering procedures for our crazy southeast VA weather, and habits for each. I listened intently with a pen and paper in hand taking notes! He likely saved my plants that winter.

All of my plants arrived promptly in September. The fig was at least a foot taller than I expected, branched, and beautifully pruned into a tree. The blueberries were also much larger than I expected, and my fall gold had beautiful deep red bark and was sprouting new leaves.

They overwintered fine, and are now growing like crazy. I pruned all of the plants a few weeks ago and my blueberries have already put back on half a foot of growth and are leafing and branching, the fall gold is doing the same, and the fig (a heat wave brought it out of dormancy, and a march snowstorm and 10F temps killed the branches) was pruned down to a stick to get back to live wood, but it's already putting out new branches and leaves as well. I potted it in a 16" pot so I can bring it in during inclimate weather from now on.

My latest order was placed in early March for a dwarf meyer's lemon. I got the tree yesterday, and it is an absolutely gorgeous TREE. I have it potted so it can stay indoors and go out during the warm season, and so I can bring in when the lemons set so the birds won't get them. Already my whole apartment smells heavenly. The roots were healthy, it had tons of leaves and flowers and the very beginning buds of tiny lemons. The roots on this tree were literally almost untouched. Like they took a paint brush to remove the dirt and send it bareroot. I have noticed that when care is applied to keep the roots undisturbed, the plants don't seem to go through transplant shock. I am hoping that is true of this tree since it has been 24 hours and it hasn't dropped any foliage.

I will definitely order from Willis again. The people are nice, knowledgeable, and based on my experience and my asking 425783498575723758934752 questions whenever I call (only to have the rep go out of their way to be helpful, and listen and answer questions patiently for 20 minutes) I just find some of these customer service issues hard to believe. My experiences were nothing less than stellar.

I feel that Willis has upheld a high level of intregity throughout this exchange. In a day and age where nobody wants to make things right at their own expense I found their attitude professionalism and ethical behavior to be outstanding! This is a class act! I would recommend Willis very highly and will continue to and look forward to doing business with them.

I just ordered one fig tree and I am well pleased. It arrived in a timely manner and was a nice large size as described. This was my first order with this company.

I made a fairly sizable order from Willis a few weeks ago: 8 apple trees, 4 pecan trees, 3 blackberry plants, 2 grapevines and a raspberry. They arrived Saturday a week ago and for the most part, everything was in excellent shape. The blackberries were the first things I saw and one at least *had* to be older than the 2-year plant I ordered given the size of the base and roots. The apples, grapes, and raspberry were all fine and I planted them in the spots I'd prepared. When I came to the pecans, however, I was disappointed to see that one of the four 2-3' trees I'd ordered had a taproot that was only 8" long. A pecan that size should have had a minimum of 12", preferably 16-18" taproot. Given that the rest of the order was in good shape, I started to plant it anyway. However, while doing so, I decided that if the tree died, or grew slower than the other three that had longer taproots (almost certain to happen), I'd just fume about it and wish that I'd fixed the problem from the outset.

I took a photo of the four trees laying side-by-side to show the disparity in the size of the taproots. I mailed that photo to Willis with a note about why I was unhappy. The following day, 'Shannon' replied to my email apoligizing for the inconvenience and indicating a replacement tree would be shipped out shortly. That tree arrived by FedEx this evening and has a taproot of reasonable size.

I don't expect any company I deal with to be perfect. However, so long as they accept responsibility for errors and work to make things right, that's perfectly acceptable to me. I'd buy from Willis again.

I ordered two fig trees from Willis Orchards, a White Kadota and a Peter's Honey on 12-18-2008 and received them about two weeks later. I've ordered trees and plants throughout the years and some are worth the money I paid and some are not. I would like to let anyone out there know that my fig trees arrived in perfect condition and the quality is exceptional and worth the money. I would order again without hesitation from Willis Orchards. These two trees will be in pots and are double the diameter of two fig trees that I ordered from Arron's Nursery two years ago and paid double the price and also the fig trees they sent me wasn't even what I ordered. It took two years to produce and they look like Brown Turkey figs I was disappointed . That is why I ordered these two fig trees from Willis Orchards. By the way I talked to Jason the owner and he said he has no affiliation with Arron's Nursery. Willis Orchards is forty-five minutes away from Arron's Nursery in Moultrie GA.

I purchased 3 Grape vines, 3 Blueberry plants, and 8 Blackberry vines. Shipping was a little slow, but I ordered at the peak shipping time, so that can be forgiven. The plants however are huge, the three year old grape vines had 5 or 6 roots as big as or bigger than a pencil and all about 3 foot long. The Blueberry and Blackberry plants were all large and healthy. I will use Will's Orchards again.

I ordered 3 blueberry plants last week. The order was processed and mailed the following business day, I was sent a UPS tracking email, which was nice because I wouldn't have been ready for them to arrive so quickly. I made sure to leave a note for UPS to leave them at doorstep in case I wasn't there. They arrived looking very healthy, and sizes were at the top end of what I ordered or taller. No concerns and would order again!

I received 18 assorted apple trees on Dec. 11. All the trees were alive with good root structure and appear to be in good shape. I believe that Willis Orchard treated me fairly. I think that if any of these trees die it will be my failure to understand how to properly care for them. In the next few years when they start to produce I will know whether or not I did my part.

Thank You Cliff. It would be natural to expect 1 to 3 trees out of 18 to not survive for some reason. In any event, we are willing to replace any trees necessary. We wish that all of our customers were as fair and reasonable as you Cliff... And most are. But as you may read, some go from unreasonable to absolutely nutty. Thanks again and best wishes."
