I live in deer tick territory. During bad seasons, I've had pulled 10 off my pants from the short walk to the car from my front door in seconds. This stuff does kill them, and certainly helps to repel them. Also kills spiders, mosquitos, various smaller flying insects. The smaller the bug, the faster the kill. Small ticks and spiders are killed immediately. You can spray it directly on skin. It's great.

HOWEVER.. I decided to make my own. Because is very expensive and I need more than I can afford. And I like to make my own garden sprays. Cedar oil is effective as the active ingredient, but hard to thin and disperse and still be effective.
The thing is, they have a very misleading (borderline fraudulent) claim of "liquid quartz" or "hydrated silica". Neither of these things is really true. Those are actual terms for substances that are absolutely not in this product. I suspect the chemical they use to suspend the cedar oil may have some killing power, but is mostly a silicon based super fluid used as a carrier in many cosmetics. It's not easily obtained for DIY. But, it really bothers me that they would misrepresent the ingredients to deter copycats. Evidently they've had legal issues with this as well. Check one of the other reviews above for a link to that.
Anyway, the product works pretty well, but is expensive and has dubious product information, which might make one doubt the safety. I'm not worried about safety so much, but wish there was an effective alternative, or some translucency on the company's behalf.

I needed to get rid of fleas and bought the Best Yet as well as the Vets Choice from Cedarcide over a year ago. I found that although best yet repelled fleas, it didn't really kill them. The damn things would always return (or hatch). Then about a year passed and I noticed the Vets Choice concentrate still at my place. I decided to try it. What I found was that if I mixed a good amount of Vets Choice with water in the spray bottle, that once i sprayed my truck, both the cab and the camper (i'm a dog walker), that it killed the fleas and any eggs. It needs to be a strong mix as a light mixture won't kill the fleas and eggs. Vets Choice is now my go to and I just bought another bottle. Be aware though, it's best to spray the strong mixture the night before because if they get the strong mixture on them via a morning application, they tend to eat grass on our outing. It won't have the same affect with a lighter application.

My 15 pound dog was scratching so violently and keeping us awake -we were helping him scratch for a few days. He has a heart problem so we didn't want to use the pesticide applications. Our vet said he has an allergy to flea saliva - which causes a type of staph infection on his skin (I didn't notice anything but vet says it makes the skin feel waxy).
We got two weeks worth of Clavamox 125 mg (antibiotics, 2 times a day) and a shampoo called KetoChlor (bath 2 x a week)
We saw a vast difference in 2.5 days and for a whole week thereafter. Then we went to Atlanta and I stopped the antibiotics after 8 days cos I didnt want more medication in him. Needless to say, he started itching again. We are now home and we got another batch of the Clavamox. Ask your vet about this. We're from Southern California. But it doesn't kill fleas.. but if your pet is allergic to flea bites, even one flea will drive your dog crazy.

We are looking at possibly purchasing some of this product.

It markets itself as an "organic pesticide" but nowhere do I see any indication that it is certified "organic" by an accredited organization. I can't find it in OMRI, I don't see it anywhere on their website. For claiming it falls under a pesticide (as opposed to a natural fiber, etc.) that is organic, wouldn't that fall under the USDA/NOP...and thus need to have a certifier to verify their claim?

Could anyone form Dave's Garden, or anyone else, help shed some light on this?

Really, at this time I can only give Cedarcide a neutral rating because it really doesn't control the fleas like it claims. Within a day of washing my dog and applying the Cedarcide spray we found fleas on him. This, after washing him, his bedding, all blankets, outside bedding, etc. It does kill the fleas, but they come right back. Also, it makes his coat very greasy for a couple of days--not very attractive. I'm happy that it's non-toxic, but I wish it worked longer than a couple of days. I hate the fact that the spot-on drops were toxic to my animals, and I'm sad that I was duped into using them. Right now I feel I have no other recourse than to use the Cedarcide, but it isn't as effective as I think it should be, and it is expensive. Almost as expensive as the drops, because you have to use a lot more of it.

In reference to the BEST YET product you speak of in the CedarCide Testimonial I want to add several comments. I talked to Dr. Ben Oldag at the company as I was so intrigued by the results of this product when I used it on the dogs. Dr. Oldag 78, is one of the very few World Renowned Organic Scientists although one would never know it when talking to him. It is hard to get him to toot his own horn but after a hour I finally surfaced the info I wanted. Dr. Oldag was approached by the US Army about 12 months ago with a desperate plea to invent a Bio flea prevention Product that would be safe for the troops deployed to the Mid East. I must say, the technology is Next Generation. It would be hard for me to ever use a chemical agent again knowing what I know now about the BEST YET formulation. You see, I to am a Organic Scientist and hereby tip my hat to what I consider to be the greatest invention of the century. It is the BEST YET. If you don't believe me try it yourself. It is interesting to say the least.
