Comments regarding Roses Unlimited

This company has an annual open house. I attended this in May of last year. The roses were gorgeous! The people there were as nice as could be. The rose I purchased that day is definitely the healthiest in my garden. It is also the only own root rose I have. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from this company again.

I have purchased the majority of my 20 something full sized roses from Roses Unlimited. The quality and size of the plant they sell is by far better than any other place I have seen.

Their staff are the sweetest most wonderful people that I have dealt with. If you have a question they will get you an answer. If you want something with a specific trait they will go to endless lengths to show you your choices.

I have ordered own-root, potted roses from this company for the last three years. The plants are very good size with good root systems. They are well-packaged and have never been damaged in transit. They must do a good business, because you need to order early to get the selections you want, but their selection is outstanding. My only criticisms are that their web site is simply a listing of the varieties they offer. It's not interactive, not does it indicate which varieties are sold out. Also, the company doesn't accept credit cards, so you have to send them a check. Considering the quality of their roses, I can overlook the inconvenience.

Roses looked great. I bought Gertrude Jekyll, Evelyn, and Lilian Austin. Healthy looking plants. Gertrude was 4 feet tall (I'm not kidding). Only annoyance is that this company does not take credit cards so you have to mail in a check before they will ship. Otherwise, it was a great buying experience.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! I've ordered roses from a variety of the big-name reputable rose nurseries and none of them can hold a candle to Roses Unlimited. They excel in every area, in selection, in service, in value for your money, in shipment and packing; and in quality of plants.
Of the 18 roses I ordered, around 15 arrived in full flower and bud -- absolutely glorious. It's been two weeks since their arrival and they have continued to bloom and bud even through transplanting.
The buds and flowers are an excellent sign and definitely something to look for when ordering roses. Some other rose nursuries excessively propagate their stock and eventually their new stock loses its vigor or flowering ability. This phenomenon of effete plant stock is definitely not a problem with Roses Unlimited.
Size of roses is excellent and a great value at $13 each (some $15). All in 1 gallon pots with healthy sizeable root balls . Other places I've ordered from must fertilize to get lots of foliage with few roots. Not these folks, thank goodness!
Their plants were so impressive that I would consider ordering a plant from them for a gift instead of using FTD.
Variety of roses available is astounding. Quite possibly the largest selection of own-root roses in the country and definitely the most choice selection I've encountered in extremely extensive research. I've seen bushes available here that I couldn't find anywhere else in this country.
People couldn't be nicer or more knowledgeable. The proprietor is Pat Henry and if she's the person I spoke with, she knows her roses! She is also very personable and generous with her knowledge. I took her recommendations with some varieties and was absolutely delighted with the results.
Website and catalog don't have much in the way of descriptions; they probably cater to the rose cogniscenti who know exactly but they want. Rose novices should probably give them a call or send an email if they are curious about rose varieties. Either that or learn from other sources what roses you want and then take your rose list to Roses Unlimited.
RU packaged all roses securely so nary a petal or leaf fell in transit. Each rose bush emerged from its journey from South Carolina as fresh, lovely and fragrant as if it had been delivered by the local nursery. (If there were a local nursery with as good stock as RU ).
They ship via Priority Mail, USPS, which is preferable to UPS because USPS delivers 6 days a week and if your order must sit over the weekend, it will only be for one day.
I really can't say enough good about these folks or their roses. You can definitely feel secure ordering from them. They know roses and definitely care about them.
I'll never order roses from anyone else!

Huge selection of antique roses. These are one and two year old own root roses at very reasonable prices. Shipping is not cheap, but their packing is extraordinary. Buy with confidence.

This company will get all my business so far as ordering roses. If they shipped other plants, I am sure I would order those too. The packaging was EXCELLENT. Roses were healthy, good sized, and every one of those that I have ordered have exceeded my growing expectations. Exceptional selection too.

This company provides large, healthy, own-root roses. Their inventory is amazing and I've been very pleased with the size of their roses and the care they placed in shipping them. Their web site is not that great, but, believe me, the roses are!

Do yourself a favor and actually go there on a weekday to visit, or visit during one of the several Open House weekends when the personal gardens of the owners are open to the public. It is located about an hour south of Asheville, North Carolina. There are no frills here - these folks work hard all day long in the greenhouses, taking phone calls, and processing orders - and the own root roses they sell are truly wonderful. They are incredibly knowledgeable about all kinds of roses and are most generous in sharing what they know with you. Of course, at some level, this is a business for them but overall I am always left with the feeling that this is, above all, a labor of love and that they would like nothing better than for you to grow and enjoy roses as much as they do! I have bought many, many (too many!) roses from them and could not be more pleased with how well all the plants are doing. Just the thought of walking into one of those greenhouses and seeing all those beautiful roses in bloom can get me through an entire winter. Shop with confidence here!

Two or three years ago I ordered three roses from Roses Unlimited and was pleased with the well-grown plants I received. Although they were smaller than a grafted plant would be (which is just the was it is for own-root roses), they grew rapidly, and by the next year they became robust, vigorous plants. Last spring I visited their nursery and picked out hybrid musk, which was great because I was able to get just the shade of red I wanted. I highly recommend them.

Ordered a rose and was a little leery about sending a check (credit cards not accepted) before the rose was shipped. Was told that this company is as good as it gets. True for me. The check and the rose must have crossed each other in transit, as within 3 working days had my rose delivered to my door. They sell own root, potted roses (1 gallon for mine), and my rose arrived with 2 buds and a bloom on it. No waiting to see how the rose looked. I was delighted in every way.

I just received my first order from Roses Unlimited. They have a list of probably 300 varieties and send them in 1 gallon pots. I was very pleased with the size and quality of the plants I received.[update mid-November] My new plants from Roses Unlimited are awesome.

The 'catalog' from this company consists of about six or seven standard white pages, folded in half, with a list of roses. They have some old fashioned roses (35% of the list), as well as floribundas, hybrid teas, and grandifloras (65%). All of the roses, including the modern ones, are own-root grown in a greenhouse. Most of the teas, floribundas, etc., are older varieties where the patent has expired. They had some roses that I could not find anywhere else (not just the teas, but some bourbon roses not in either Heirloom Old Garden Roses or Antique Rose), so I called to order over the phone. Normally, there is no phone order; it's supposed to be mail only. Credit cards are not accepted. However, they left a phone number on the front. After I got through, I asked if they could ship to us within the week. I offered to send the order form by overnight mail, but he accepted my promise of payment and shipped the roses that day (yes, we did pay immediately). When the roses arrived . . .WOW!!! They were as big, or bigger, than the roses you buy at nurseries in five gallon containers. One was in bloom. All were very healthy, with no shipping damage. The instructions that they sent were incredibly detailed. It was like someonegiving away a prized pet. I'll let you know how the roses grow.
