The perfect storm of outrageous, undisclosed shipping prices and slow service. I ordered three products for $217 and was charged an additional $124 for ground shipping the three items weighing a total of 40 lbs. Checking the UPS web site I see that actual charges without any volume discounts would be no more than $45 for all three items.

Just the facts, please:

One of the items ordered was a package of catchwire/birdnet clips at a cost of $15. I was charged $23.25 for this item which arrived as an individual shipment with a shipping charge of $8.25. The item arrived in a padded envelope measuring 8” X 10” and weighing 15 ounces and would have fit neatly into a $4.80 US Postal Service Prioirty Mail flat rate envelope.

The second shipment consisted of a 16 lb. box, not oversized or bulky, and 20 lb box also not oversize. UPS charged $46.94 to ship both of these items via standard ground.

You can make your own judgment as to the veracity of Midwest on shipping charges.

Without knowing who this customer is or what was ordered, we cannot respond to specifics but it is our policy to charge only the actual freight charges that are charged by the freight company. We never charge any additional packing or handling fees. Many of our products are large, bulky, and odd sized and as such the freight companies charge additional "oversize" fees. As stated on our web site, freight quotes are available on request. Freight costs have doubled in the past year due to increased fuel costs. All in stock items are shipped promptly, and back ordered items are shipped as soon as they become available.

Now that we can identify the customer we can respond further. The bird net clips were shipped from our location via UPS (so they could be tracked & insured - this is our policy unless the customer requests otherwise, and agrees to take the responsibility for lost shipments). The package weighed 1 lb 4.2 oz, not the 15 oz the customer states, and was 15" x 11".

The other 2 items were shipped direct from the importer's warehouse on the east coast, and the packages WERE classified as OVERSIZE (dimensional weight) by UPS. The customer was charged the actual UPS charges which we were charged in all cases.

This customer had an issue with the timeliness of our shipping of 2 of the items (bird net & harvesting lugs), which were temporarily out of stock due to his order being placed late in the season. He contacted us by email then failed to respond to our emails & phone calls requesting more information so we could assist him.

We try our best to provide excellent service to our customers, unfortunately you cannot seem to please everyone.
