Perhaps it was the weather, but they didn't do very well. I was especially disappointed that none of the 3 Eremurus bloomed; in fact only one sent leaves up. |

These guys are reasonably priced and their bulbs are exotic, unique, and high quality. I see no reason to buy bulbs anywhere else. |
Positive | caterino1 (7 reviews) | On Apr 21, 2011, caterino1 Newburgh, NY wrote: I have ordered from scheepers/van engelen for a few years now, and must sing their praises. This year is my best spring ever!!! I ordered 1600 bulbs last fall and so far everyone has bloomed. This is my first year to grow scillia siberica, when I first received them I was sure that the bulbs were not in the best condition, I called them, to let them know and got the nicest rep on the phone, explaining that they looked like that and not to worry, I was skeptical, but agreed to plant them and wait, well they are up and they are beautiful, If you want great bulbs in good condition, look no further, I am a customer forever and would never buy bulbs at any other site.... |

Positive | laurahteague (8 reviews) | On Mar 4, 2011, laurahteague Madisonville, KY wrote: I ordered daffodils from this company last year. Many of the bulbs they sent had already produced a new "baby", and when they came up in spring, many of them had 2-3 blooms! Pretty good for the first year! They were ALL in good condition; I don't think I got a single blub that wasn't healthy, and I ordered over 100 bulbs, of about a dozen varieties. I noticed that one of the (few) negative comments said they were expensive. I compared their prices to other companies selling extensive selections of bulbs, and they were actually cheaper than the other companies. If you want cheap bulbs, you can go to Wal-Mart, but I guarantee you won't find the huge selection of unusual daffodils that John Scheeper's offers. |
Positive | moostveen (4 reviews) | On Nov 10, 2010, moostveen Millstone, NJ wrote: I ordered Casa Blanca lilies at short notice as I needed to plant them in a client's garden. Not only did they get them to me within the time frame specified, but they were (as usual) big healthy bulbs. Thanks, you did not disappoint me. I am sure my clients will be very pleasantly surprised when their lilies are blooming next year. |
Positive | ycn4chin (39 reviews) | On Oct 25, 2010, ycn4chin Dickson, TN wrote: Received my Fall Order of bulbs. I ordered 3 varieties of lilies, 3 daffodils varieties, 2 peonies, and 1 variety of tulip. All were firm, healthy and huge. I also sent an order to my Mother as a gift, and she raved about the size of the bulbs. I have found this company consistently sends high quality bulbs, and I always recommend them to my gardening friends. |
Negative | flora3 (2 reviews) | On Oct 24, 2010, flora3 Falls Church, VA wrote: Quality was not high enough in light of the price. Tulip and daffodil bulbs were OK, but alliums were dehydrated and already sprouting when they arrived. Also, the package of alliums was two short. Customer service said they were in stock and would be sent. Without any further communication, a credit for the missing bulbs appeared on my credit card a few days later. In late fall, credit is not a good substitute for bulbs! |
Positive | dave12122 (83 reviews) | On Oct 19, 2010, dave12122 East Haddam, CT wrote: EXCELLENT! I ordered 200 Spanish Squills for an incredibly low price. (less than $50.00- others list them for $75.00 per hundred!) Bulbs are huge and extremely healthy, I'm sure they will grow just fine. In addition, the packaging is very professional. Highly recommended! |

I have the best yield with their bulbs, better than 90%, and the best success in natualizing. The orders are filled correctly, and the bulbs match the catalog perfectly. I note that my garden is near the same latitude as theirs, still south of Holland. I don't know if that matters, but when I have ordered bulbs from sources, even top 5 sources, further south, my yield is just not as good, and naturalizing success is not as good. And John Scheepers has a vast variety. And all my peonies have grown. I fertilize after bloom and before they go dormant in the fall. The buds are forming now. I also learned that when they say some are early and some are later, that also means the sprouts appear early or later. I am looking forward to the display. This is some kind of fun. |

Just realized how many of John Scheeper's products did not produce. Some did and were beautiful. Not sure why so many items did not survive. Wish I had realized this earlier. |

I will have to pot up next spring. I had compared the prices and size with bulbs sold at local nurseris. These were at least half the price and twice the size. Even figuring in the cost of shipping I came out way ahead. |

That is EXCELLENT customer service and I am very impressed. How often do you see this kind of service these days? I am happily changing my rating to positive and I would definitely order again as this company is clearly committed to customer satisfaction. |
Positive | lisaaj (20 reviews) | On Oct 26, 2009, lisaaj Columbus, OH wrote: Received my order recently and have planted most of the bulbs; they are big, fat, healthy bulbs that I'm sure will grow quite well. Even though I added two peony roots onto my order in September, they sent the whole order of various bulbs and roots on time and at once. (In the past other vendors have sent my order in various shipments, weeks apart, which can make planting inconvenient.) I am very pleased with my order and plan to order more in the future! |
Positive | Cinecine (4 reviews) | On Oct 23, 2009, Cinecine Cambridge, MA wrote: I've tried so many places for my bulb orders over the years and have had a string of disappointments, small and large. Scheepers is the absolutely the best in every way. Their bulbs are as large or larger than anyone else's; the snug double-box packaging prevents damage; they are responsive to rush requests (I forgot to order the bulb booster and it was shipped the next day!); the selection of tulips, narcissi and allium is superb, and there are all sorts of other unusual bulbs to spice things up in June and July. And best of all, their prices are better than all of the other reputable companies so I can afford more bulbs. |

Customer service is polite and responsive. Shipping is at the proper time. Prices are among the lowest. Best of all is their catalog--far and away the best in the industry--well arranged, attractive, and totally worthy of being pored over voraciously all spring and summer till planting time. The only negative I'm aware of is their $35 minimum, which one might expect from their volume-oriented sister company Van Engelen but which must be unreasonably high for many people who only need a few bulbs. |

Positive | crocus1 (7 reviews) | On Oct 18, 2008, crocus1 Lawrence, KS wrote: I was nervous about ordering from this company as there seem to have been several CS problems. Since I've had CS problems with a top 30 company, I thought a big company would be a problem. But so far no problems. The bulbs seem fine and I will see how they come up in spring before I reorder. There was a confusion about a gift certificate which I sent to a friend. He may have tossed it as junk mail because he never rec'd it. When I called to ask for a replacement to be sent to me directly, they incorrectly sent it to him again. Which was annoying. However, since he's near me it wasn't a big deal. And I will say that a woman actually called me about it later and was very helpful in attempting to get the problem resolved. So it may be that the first line of CSRs are not so on the ball (and who can blame them since they probably get paid $6/hr.... another issue). |

I tried KGS after a rather minor problem (bulb variety mix up where all in a mixed bag were same color, I think) with some amaryllis bulbs was made right with a credit. After they bloomed and I noticed the issue, it was naturally too late to replace them, hence the credit. They did not make me send the bulbs back, even though I offered. |
