This contradicts what I was previously told, but I was impressed that the company made a sincere effort to make amends. |

They had listed several varieties of narcissus that look like they would grow well in Tucson's climate. My order consisted of Chinese Sacred Lily, Segovia, Grand Soleil d'Or, Canaliculatus Tazetta, Geranium, Golden Dawn, and Minnow narcissus. This was an $80+ order. It is now February and my narcissus are beginning to bloom and I'm disappointed. Right now 19 of my new narcissus appear to be Ziva Paper White Narcissus, a far less expensive generic white variety that I can pick up cheap at Walmart. None of the varieties I ordered are completely white so there is no mistaking the variety. All the bulb bags where labeled so they matched my order. I don't know which bag(s) were filled with Ziva instead of what I ordered. I'll have to wait until the other varieties blossom. I think each bag contained about 10 bulbs so I think two bags where substituted for the cheap variety. On February 26th, 2009, kaled added the following: I think Aston-Simms is a scamming site. All the positive reviews on Dave's Garden are from one week in 2006 and all the accounts were created the day the positive review was posted. It looks like more of the narcissus I ordered form them are not what I ordered. I have a small daffodil open which I recognize as a cheap variety. It won't survive the summer because it is not adept to this climate. I can tell the surrounding plants are of the same variety. It really looks like Aston-Simms substituted cheap paper white narcissus and cheap north climate daffodils for the Mediterranean narcissus I ordered. Just be ware of this site. They seem to have a good Narcissus selection, but I would not trust them. On February 27th, 2009, kaled added the following: I have responded to Peter's attached message via email. If it turns out that my order was a casualty of an innocent mistake or the result of incompetence of a third party and Aston-Simms will offer a reasonable solution, I will revise this rating. I apologize if I jumped to a false conclusion based on circumstantial evidence. On March 3rd, 2009, kaled changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: Aston-Simms has refunded my purchase as promised. Our bulb distributor BulbTrends.com in Wisconsine (recommended to us by the Mail Order Garden Association), has until this past season proved extremely good. However, over the winter we saw many problems from late orders to a total lack of response on orders placed. |
