Comments regarding Old House Gardens - Heirloom Bulbs

Beautiful bulbs, great instructions and personal service make them a "must check out". I think their bulbs convinced my old bulbs to come up nicer!

I've been doing business with Old House Gardens and Scott since 1994, and have had nothing but positive experiences with them. Quick service with a smile - and followup! Outstanding!

It is usually very difficult to find a company that gives so much planting information (especially for bulbs that survive in the deep south!) I first found out about this company from a newspaper gardening columnist, and thought I would give them a try. I placed an order for bulbs, then ended up adding more as it came closer to shipping time. I was very pleased when I received my order, and will definitely order from them again!

Add my name to the list of positives, as these people deserve it. There was a handwritten thank you note on the packing list, a couple smiley faces, incredibly detailed instructions, which are the most accurate I've seen (they're RIGHT about most published advice on bulbs being unreliable, and my own experience bears this out), and apologies for substitutions that also included an extra bulb and a large discount on top of it. These people understand great customer service, and are genuinely interested in their customers' satisfaction, and it shows. They deserve their top-notch rating, and I'll buy from them again soon just because they're so likeable.

I ordered 10 Thomas Edison dahlias from Old House Gardens this spring and had a great experience in four respects: (1) extremely detailed planting instructions (2) nice, healthy specimens (3) every one of them came up and looks fantastic (4) friendly, fast service, nice handwritten "welcome" note. The price didn't seem all that great (I have since seen the same dahlias in another catalog for slightly less) but the good service and good product from a specialty nursery more than makes up for the difference.

I can't begin to list all the reasons why OHG is one of my favorite sources for heirloom bulbs. Orders arrive when promised, in excellent condition and the folks on the phone couldn't be nicer. They also have an e-mail newsletter that's well worth requesting. Try them out, you won't be disappointed!

I received my first order from OHG last fall. I was shocked at how big my bulbs were and the explicit directions could not be surpassed. My Spring order just arrived today and again the quality can not be beat. The company and customer service treat you like long time friends, always available to answer any questions that should arise. Again Scott's signature was on my packing slip with a big Thank You. I am so pleased with this company after experiencing several negatives with other mail order companies, I can not brag or show off my bulbs enough to my family or friends. They have my business for life. I thank OHG for preserving and continuing their wonderful, exceptional and beautiful old heirloom bulbs.

I can't say enough good things about Old House Gardens. They have a lovely selection and my bulbs arrived on time as ordered. Most importantly, however, is their excellent customer service. Everyone I dealt with from Old House Gardens was incredibly friendly and helpful...and the handwritten thank you note on the packing list with the bulbs was so nice to receive. An all-around terrific company!

Have been ordering from OHG for 7 years and needless to say it's always a wonderful experience. Scott Kunst, the owner, and his staff are delightful to work with and they want you to be satisfied with your purchases. Their early order discounts are great.They even have a program for fundraisers.I have also attended a Scott Kunst lecture and it was great. I wish every company did business like Old House Gardens.

Old House Gardens is a great and addicting experience! I am psyched to be growing historic bulbs from true stock of generations and centuries ago. Scott, the owner, who has written feature articles for magizines like Horticulture, often answers the phone, gives consultation and personal thank yous with the orders. The bulbs I ordered arrived at the right time and in good condition. The catalog is great. Many bulbs can not be bought any where else. The ones that can be bought else where are less expensive else where (Brent & Beckys, and McClure & Zimmerman also have a number of Heirloom Bulbs of which I've ordered). Old Time Gardens though guarantees that they have true heirloom stocks. I highy reccomend them.

Great selection of heirloom bulbs. I was pleasantly surprised to find extra bulbs in my order, with a nice note from the owner. Fast response to my e-mail inquiries as well.

Fantastic old varieties with good descriptions in the catalog and pictures on the website. Everything is growing well. Most of their bulbs require more winter cold than I can give them here in zone 9, but I'll probably end up buying all the ones I can grow. Friendly, knowledgable phone operators.

I too, would like to commend Old House Gardens for their kindness over the phone. (I am a first time customer) I was treated like royalty! They were out of the Bulb I wanted and recommended one that was comparable. My bulbs arrived in the mail in excellent condition with "handwritten" thank you's from Steve and lots of clear instructions. I will order from them again!

This is an excellent company in every way. Though they say that they don't ship "exhibition-size" hyacinth bulbs, the rare hyacinth bulbs they sent me bloomed as large as those from any other source - and several of the meneliks had two or even three stalks per bulb! The crocuses and tulips were equally remarkable, looking (and smelling) far better in the garden than they did in the catalogue photos or even descriptions. My yard bees agree with me on this one - OHG bulbs were their preferred banquet spots this spring. The lilies were healthy, huge and came with concise instructions - perfect for a first time lily grower. Packing was carefully done and environmentally friendly, shipping was perfectly reasonable (ten to fifteen percent), and service has been friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. Scott's a real treasure chest of practical gardening knowledge, and has been very willing to share. A truly great gardening source!

I ordered from Old House Gardens for the first time last Spring and was very satisfied with the results. The Elephant Ear bulbs bloomed well so I will reorder from them again this year.

It's been a few years since I've ordered from them (through no fault of theirs -- Scott Kunst keeps sending his informative and ever-improving catalogs my way), but when I did, I was not disappointed. Great bulbs, not the run-of-the-mill stuff everybody else carries. The color photos in this year's catalog were a welcome addition. And a very friendly company! That in itself is a rarity.

I just wanted to say how wonderful I think the Old House Gardens people are. I received large healthy bulbs this fall. I'm am sure that these bulbs will grow, and if they don't, they will replace them.

Just a note to say that my experience with Old House Gardens was excellent, and this was not without a hitch, as the company was quick to correct (over correct, gave me extra stuff) an order I complained about. The plants I ordered all performed wonderfully.
