Apparently they and I have confused commerce with charity. Sent confirmed payment over a year ago now and still no plants nor further communication beyond the initial payment confirmation. I'm truly sorry for whatever their personal troubles may be but keeping my payment is theft. Soon after my confirmed payment also about a year ago they started soliciting donations online. They had some nice words on interesting web sites but there doesn't seem to be any business operating at all.

I would absolutely not recommend placing an order with Badgersett. You might as well just burn your money. I tried for well over a year to get a replacement order for hazelnut plants fulfilled. They'll be happy to take your order and your cash but don't expect much after that. After a slew of excuses they eventually just stopped answering my order queries. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they even failed to respond to that. I've been told that frankness is a virtue so here's the frank truth: they're thieves, plain and simple.

My first order was about 5 years ago, which they messed up, but hey, things can happen so I wasn't too concerned. It worked out eventually. The second order the following year went OK. I placed a third order last fall, but they haven't shipped and haven't responded despite months of repeated emails.

The actual hazelnut plants have been fine, and I'm starting to get a decent number of nuts this year, but their poor service (especially lately) forces me to give them a negative rating. I would not recommend that anyone order from them.

I sent my check for over $100 with my order placed last March (2016) for Hazelnut plants to be delivered May-June. No plants were delivered. I received an e-mail in about August saying the plants would be delivered by the end of September. No plants were delivered/received. I called several times. Line always busy. I e-mailed a cancellation of my order and asked for a refund. Never got a response. Two additional e-mails later, still no response. If I had known about the Garden Watchdog before I ordered, I would have known not to order from Badgersett Research!!

After reporting Badgersett to the BBB, Badgersett responded to tell me they don't give refunds because they're "a small company." (How difficult is it for a "small" company to write a check?!). They claim their policy of never giving refunds was on their website when I ordered -- I just missed it). They offered to ship the plants I ordered with their 2017 shipments. Seeing little choice, I accepted their offer. I'll be back to report whether or not I receive any plants. Checking with Dave's Garden Watchdog is a great idea BEFORE ordering.

May 2017 has come and gone. I sent an e-mail to Badgersett a couple of months ago asking whether they were still going to ship my order in May. No response. No shipment. I've sent another e-mail today but have little expectation of a response. Their modus operandi appears to be to rip off customers whose orders are so small that filing suit is impractical. I'm filing a second complaint with the BBB as well as a complaint with the federal government: [HYPERLINK@www.usa.gov] I hope everyone who has been ripped off by Badgersett does the same.

The website for reporting internet fraud that was removed from my last post can be found by searching for "online safety USAGov."

7-Apr-2016 ordered 12 hazelnut plants, Invoice 7537 Badgersett responded that a request from PayPal for $75 payment would come
26-Apr, received PayPal notice and paid $75.
13-Jun-2016 sent email to badgersett asking about order since I had received no order or communication
12-Jul-2016 Badgersett responded they were having shipping problems because of weather and suggested a fall or next spring shipment.
14-Jul-2016, stated I would like a fall order
2-Nov-2016, Still no order received and no communications so sent an email to Badgersett.
6-Nov-2016, Megan from Badgersett responded, explained how weather had caused a problem, that the normal shipping person had health problems etc.
6-Nov-2016, I responded that I would like the order canceled and my $75 refunded even though it was against Badgersetts policy,
16-Mar-2017, No response from Badgersett since Nov-2016 so sent an inquiry about my order.
16-May-2017, still no response from Badgersett so sent another email asking about my order and not getting a refund for the 75$ I paid in good faith in 2016 to Badgersett.

Thank you Dave's Garden for a path to let others be aware of Badgersett's disappointing performance.

I sent a mail order late fall of 2016 with a check. Plan was to purchase some hybrid hazel plants to go into the ground this spring (2017).
My check has not been cashed. My email to follow up was not responded to. I can not reach them by phone. I am not sure if they are even still in business. I have no idea if I am going to get any plants in the spring.

I placed an order and paid $300 up front in March, and was given a choice of delivery dates. I chose mid-May, they agreed. Come mid-May and no peep I inquire; they answer "you're in the queue, just wait". Come mid-June and I inquire, they answer "a little more patience would be great". Then no more replies until finally a broadcast email they are suspending shipments for the year. So having read here about plant quality I am asking for a refund; wish me luck.

Clearly they are perennially "under-staffed" and over-promise.

Sent for trees in 2015 summer and received a note that they would not be sent until May 2016. Contacted them in May 2016 and they replied in a dismissive fashion that they were busy and this continued in June with no trees being shipped.

Order was still not shipped at the end of June. I then asked for a refund and was told they could not refund money as these were 'plants'. no further explanation, plants they had never sent but taken my money for. Latest reply is they may be shipped next week... 'or september'.

I do not actually expect to receive plants and have no clue what condition they would be in if they did arrive.

worst plant material, worst service. I ordered about two hundred and fifty dollars worth of plants and seeds from them and when I got them, 3/4s were dead. The way the package was put together was a joke and when I asked them about it, they immediately tried to blame the post office. I took pictures of the arrangement and the plants before I called them. Even when they got the pictures emailed to them they were obsessed with the whole blameshifting thing and wouldn't take ownership of a simple mistake on their part. They would not refund my order but instead put me through a bureaucratic process of negotiating with them. They were supposed to get back to me months ago about the outcome and still have not, and probably won't unless I "badger" them. Seriously if you want a headache and some crappy plants make an order with them. If not order plants somewhere else!

I ordered several sets of hazelnuts, plus hickories and some butternuts. As with other comments, I had great difficulty in getting information about when plants would be shipped. Plus some plants were no longer available and rather than being given an options to re-order and pay when available - the next year - they kept all of the money and sent some of the missing items the next year.

The most frustrating thing for me is the group does not respond to e-mail and for me, who has to travel to our second place to plant the plants, not getting this response made things very difficult for me. The group did finally respond after stressing that they were really busy and I was being a bother. These people may do great plant breeding - although I must admit I had an 80% mortality rate on the plants I received from them - they really should not be in the mail order business.

I ordered 21 hybrid hazelnut trees (shrubs, bushes, whatever) in fall of 2007. In April I asked when I should receive them, and eventually received a very rude response about checking the web page, where indeed it says they don't ship until May. When I received my order, I received 25 bare root dormant plants that ranged from 3 to 8 inches tall. At least 8 were covered with gray mold. Only eight looked healthy. I planted, watered and waited, but I contacted the company and let them know the plants condition. The web page indicated they might replace the moldy ones. No response. I contacted them again, twice, a year later, to let them know that no more than 8 ever showed any signs of life. The first time I got no response. The second time I contacted them through Dave's Garden website and they responded saying I would receive a replacement. I never heard from them again. Now in summer (two weeks of 105 degrees of summer) three of them have survived. There are other places to get hazelnut trees, even hybrid hazelnut trees, and I would recommend that you go elsewhere to get yours. I'll check back in a few years to let you know how these nuts turn out. I found the Badgersett people to be mostly unresponsive and rude.

It is now 2012 and probably safe to add comments about dealing with this company. Every attempt to contact them or expect them to act on promises was accompanied by at least a very long delay and a pathetic excuse. Only 4 of my initial order of 21, for which I paid $132, ever survived. After about a year of trying I eventually received a replacement shipment and none of those survived even though I planted immediately and kept them out of the sun until they saw the hole. I mail order many trees, shrubs and other plants from other companies and never had any look as bad as that first shipment. I really appreciate Dave's Garden Watchdog as I have found the comments to be an excellent guide.

I ordered hazelnut tubelings (per their instructions-etc) on 7-20-09. I sent the order blank and a check which was cleared by my bank on 8-6-09. I never received an acknowledgement of this . After numerous e-mails, phone calls, etc, I am still waiting for an acknowledgement of a planned shipping date or the "refund of the check" as they stated in their website. I received an e-mail stating that "they are overloaded with work" (however they had time to cash the check). After sending another e-mail and making a phone call (just this morning - Feb 4, 2010) I feel the least they could do is "RETURN THE CHECK". I will never do business with them again !!!!

I've tried contacting this company since 4/15/09. Today is 5/5/09. They say email is the best way in which to correspond. I've sent four emails. No response to any of them. I simply am inquiring to find out if my order was even received (no confirmation of any kind was sent out), and if so an approximate shipping date. Hopefully I can come back and change this to a positive, but right now things aren't looking too good.
