Darn, once again I didn't check here before ordering. I ordered two Gurnsey Cream Clematis and one perennial Hibiscus'Fantasia". The order came yesterday, if I am lucky the clematis will be big enough to put into the ground next year, the Hibiscus came in what looked like a huge peat pellet, it does have roots on it and the plant MAY be 1/2" high. I don't see this one being big enough to put in the ground until maybe fall. I am dubious as to what variety of Hibiscus I got since the tag was for a different variety and that was xd off and Fantasia written over it with magic marker.
I know better than to not check here first, I should have my head examined. Stay tuned, I may have something more positive to say in late summer. I did take all of them into the greenhouse and pot them into a next bigger pot to see what will happen next.

On June 23rd, 2008, growingranny added the following:

Well it is a month later, the clematis is about 6" high in the greenhouse and one bloomed. It is definately NOT Guernsey Cream, it looks like it may be a Nelly Mosher. I have babied these plants like I never had to baby any plant before. I will contact the company about this, I ordered the cream colored clematis to plant in front of a red barn, definately did not want pink! I doubt I will get any satisfaction by emailing them but I am going to anyway.

I did receive a refund in response to the letter.

I won't due business with them again.

Last time I visited their website, it said closed til spring for expansion! I wish them luck. Don't know if they'd go thru with expansion if they saw the negatives.

Ordered from them in May. when I received my order, not everything that I had ordered was in the package.(it wasn't a large order- 10 plants) emailed customer service and two weeks later was sent an email saying the rest of the plants would be shipped. to this date I have not seen them. the plants I did get I planted. nothing except the ferns were labeled correctly. I specifically ordered everything that bloomed in white and nothing is blooming in white. Emailed customer service again with low hopes and they didn't disappoint me. I had to email several times to be emailed back to that this would be corrected, that I would be sent out the correct plants. Again to this day, no further communication from them, but did notice on my credit card statement that I finally received a refund for the plants I did not receive. Out of 10 plants, 2 not received, five not white bloomers, the rest are fine. (while the five are not what I ordered they are growing well) I have ordered several hundred dollars worth of plants off the internet this year and this is the ONLY place that I have had problems with. Will not do business again.

Strawberry has not flowered, remains a bit weak, and I hope will turn out to be either herself or Carolyn. No answer to emails or inquiries. I will not order from them again.

I had ordered from Gorge Top in the past and had been reasonably pleased with the plants I received for the low prices they offered them at. When I hadn't received any notification regarding my last order, placed on 6/15, I went to the website only to find that the order had been cancelled. I notified customer service who did respond within 24 hours. They informed me that a cooler had gone down and they had lost thousands of plants. My order contained many of these plants so they just cancelled the whole order without notifying me. They apologized but that was it. There was no offer to send any available plants and their website still claims plants are available.

My poppies are still alive, but 3 months later are the same size as they were when they were received. My lupines never came up and when I dug them up, they were infested with bugs. I believe these bugs must have been in the bulbs when I received them.

I emailed the company to let them know about the lupines and got no reply.

I placed my order with this co. back on the 25th of May. I clicked on delivery for the week of June 5. Today is June 22 and I finally got my order. I mainly went looking for white hostas, but found great deals on some yellow and green ones too -- so I bought six hostas total, plus some butterfly bushes and a lot of other plants on their "sale". Anyway when I got my order, the first thing I noticed was that they'd shipped it in a box **NOT** marked "Live Plants" or anything -- just a plain cardboard box. So UPS has no clue what's in there and they obviously threw a very heavy box on top of it in the truck (or en route) because the box was completely SMASHED. *sigh* ANYWAY -- my butterfly bushes look like clippings off the one I bought for my mother at Lowes (for a reasonable price of $8 and in full bloom). Everything was very wilted -- maybe because I live in Zone 8 and it's usually very hot and muggy. So as they sat in that box, covered with cedar shavings and wrapped in plastic bags (that's how they all came, some without a container) they wilted or lost leaves to dryness. I hope they'll live. I'm trying to get them in the ground right now, but they already seem so shocked, I don't have too high of hopes.

Also, on my packing slip they indicated 5 of the 6 hostas I'd ordered were unavailable so they scribbled: **REFUND $20** on the bottom of my list. Well, I added it up and whatever way you look at it, the hostas that I ordered and didn't receive come out to be $28. So why the arbitrary $20? Where is the 8 bucks going? It obviously isn't going toward appeasing me by sending my plants out overnight, nor paying for any long-distance phone calls returned to me (I left messages and sent numerous emails), and we know it's not going toward packaging since that was a total bust. And I paid their flat rate of $10.95. So... I'm stumped as to why they think they're entitled to $8 extra from me. I'd love it if they took that $8 and hired a teenager for a day JUST TO RETURN EMAILS and keep customers INFORMED about the status of their orders. But honestly, I'll be very surprised if I ever see the actual "$20 refund" they promised me.

I'm not happy at all with these folks and wish I'd seen the complaints here before I ordered anything from them. Yes, they promised cheap plants... and now I fully understand the adage, "You get what you pay for."

Two green thumbs down.

On June 26th, 2006, trinks added the following:

UPDATE: June 24, 2006

Gorge Top Gardens did indeed refund my cc $20 as per their promise. I'm not going to fight for my $8 as I think the chances of me getting it or about as high as me reordering with this company.

At least I got something. Good luck to those who are still waiting on plants and/or refunds and/or explanations from them!

I planted them anyway to see if they would grow, but nothing a month later.. I only have 3 out of the original 10 hostas ordered. I want to report extreme dissappointment and dissatisfaction with Gorge Top's service and its plants. Here is why:

They sent the wrong hosta, without indicating that they were making a substitution (it was labeled as the one I ordered). Therefore, at best it was incompetence on the part of whoever was preparing my order; at worst, it was dishonesty on the part of the company.

The Silver Edge Iris arrived dead. I planted it anyway, but it has not revived.

The Clematis arrived dead. I planted it anyway, but it has not revived.

The Autumn Fern arrived extremely scraggly--I planted it and it has not grown well. It remains scraggly and puny.

That makes at least 4 of 10 plants I ordered that were incorrect, dead, or pathetic.

They should not promise what they cannot fulfill, and if they cannot fulfill something, they should not attempt to cover their tracks by sending the wrong plant, or sending dead or barely-living plants.

On July 1st, 2006, wss added the following:

Just an update to report that I wrote Gorge Top about my extreme dissatisfaction with their service and plants, and mentioned that I was going to write a negative review of them, I received a swift reply indicating that they would give me a full refund (and I hadn't asked for one). And they did credit my account for the full amount! I wonder, though: should we have to complain and threaten in order to get a response from them? It's disingenuous.

I recommend that anyone not happy with this company write them and demand a refund. Hopefully, they'll soon go out of business or radically overhaul their practices.

Most of my plants were alive upon arrival, but most were extremely rootbound and squashed. The echinaceas and adenophora were an exception; small but healthy. The gaillardias were a different variety than what I had ordered (the plants were mislabeled; it was not a substitution). The other plants were alive and are growing slowly, but they are very puny. I will never, ever order from these folks again. I strayed away from my usual tried-and-true nurseries because I got greedy about those bargain-basement prices, but given how much of the order was unusable or puny or mis-labeled, they were a waste of money.

I emailed to cancel my order because I couldn't get through on the phone and several days later got shipment notification from UPS. This is a 3 day weekend and my plants will be in transit over a week (mostly in Texas heat). I expect that they will be in bad condition when I get them. There are other companies with a similar selection of plants but much better customer service. The prices are good but at the sacrifice of service. Please be very wary of ordering with Gorge Top Gardens.

I wrote an e-mail describing the situation and asking that it be rectified, but received no response whatsoever. I wasted over 40 dollars to insult my Mother on Mother's Day, and even a year later she recoils when she thinks of the gift I gave her last year. You should be ashamed of yourself and you should reply to unsatisfied customers in an effort to avoid so many negative comments. Based on what I've seen here, you should go out of business -- soon -- and if there's anything I can do to help that happen, I will. I've mass e-mailed over 10,000 people in my database not to use your business and will continue to do so until and unless I find some resolution to this matter. It's company's like yours that give the Internet a bad name. And never again will my Mother love lavendar the way she used to. Thanks a lot.

I placed my first ever online plant order with this company on May 22 because their pricing looked great and their website exclaimed that it was the last day of their 50% off sale (I felt so lucky to have found it in time). I thought that their website was very user-friendly and well-organized.

The next day I found Garden Watchdog and became wary based on their reviews. I had also requested a small change to my order (swapping one plant for another) and hadn't gotten a response, which sent up another red flag. The following day, I realized that their 50% off sale was no sale, just a pressure tactic (it appears that EVERY day is the last day of their fantastic 50% off sale). I then emailed their CS and requested that my order be cancelled, and indicated the reasons why I did not feel good about ordering from them (I tried calling their toll-free # first, but of course, got a recording saying that they are too busy to answer the phone).

SEVERAL days later I got an email saying that they had made the plant change to my order, then got a second email indicating that they just saw the request to cancel the order. They asked for a reply to confirm the cancellation request, which I promptly sent. Then my credit card bill comes. THEY CHARGED ME! Almost $140 for an order they never shipped, nor would they ever ship. An order that was cancelled less than 48 hours after it was placed. To their credit, they did refund me the $4 difference for the plant switch I had asked for. I waited, but no subsequent credit came. I tried calling (left a message) and tried emailing as well. I stated both via phone and email that if I did not get a PROMPT response indicating that they had refunded the charge, I would have to place it in dispute with my CC company. Several days passed and I placed the charge in dispute. A couple days later I got an email from GT apologizing for not replying sooner and stating that they would refund the $ "later that week." As far as I know, they never processed the refund (and it's been a month), but now the CC company is taking care of the issue.

I would never buy from this company, regardless of their plant quality. Their business practices are shady to say the very least.

I would have to say, that the condition of the plants I received were atrocious! Completely wrapped in plastic in wood shavings.

I have already e-mailed you on a couple of occasions, in which you have never replied, explaining that the plants I received were NOT the plants I ordered. Non of the phlox came true to what I ordered. They were all white, which I already had. The "Royal Red" Buddelia turned out and did grow, but was a Honeycomb yellow. Clematis were small and promptly died the very day I received them, Monarda proceeded to sit there and never bloomed, then died. The Crocosmia died that very same week. Forget the Delphinium 'Sunny Skies'! I think it was dead when I opened it. It certainly had no leaves other than brown ones, but I tried to plant it anyway. The only plant I got from you that did perform, was the Gailardia "Fanfare". And if you have ever transplanted those, you realize how hard they can be to become established. Therefore, I do not think it was my gardening expertise that was lacking here.

Since I have not received a reply from you, I must ascertain that you do not care that your company is begetting a very bad reputation. I, along with several of my friends that have bought from you, also, will be leaving negative feedback on Garden Watchdog to warn others of your company.

I didn't expect full restitution, as I understand the position you would be in if you were to refund all receipts you sold, but I did expect you to replace the items that were incorrect.

I have bought from mail order, e-mail, I travel to nurseries all over, and since I'm in NC, I was planning on visiting your establishment. I may still just to see what kind of operation you seem to think you may be running.
Once again, I will warn other shoppers away from your company and website.

Hosta Loyalist is exactly like Amber Tiara in color and looks like new tissue culture at 1". Hostas Northern Exposure and Spilt Milk are the same but appear to both be H lancifolia. Frances Williams was good size but was disposed of because it is the exact picture of the hosta virus(which I figure they didn't know about). Hemorocallis Chicago Apache has the same bloom as Rocket City. H Catherine Woodbury same bloom as Summer Wine. Sedum Frosty Morn has no variegation looks like Autumn Joy as does S. Matrona. They are good size and blooming, but not what I ordered. Delphinium Sunny Skies appears to be a very small hardy geranium. Veronica Blue Charm is not, but I don't know what, it is small and creeping. DOA's are A. Silver Mound, P. Blue Boy, P. Starfire, B. Royal Red, D.Blushing Brides, D. Pure White, E. Ruby Giant, E. Kim's Mop Head, G. Claridge Druce, H. Stormy Seas, M. Jacob Cline, M. Petite Delight. Some plants are extremely small. Most haven't bloomed yet so who knows what surprises lay in store. I understand mistakes, but not the total lack of customer service. They want you to think the prices are half off for one day only. But have you ever been to their site when it wasn't half off? I am no novice with plants and have taken very good care of them. Hosta Spilt milk is about 2" high, costs $10.50 and isn't even what I ordered. What a bargain! Their site has been down for some time and claim to be having poblems with their e-mail and give another address to which they give no replies. I received over sixty plants thrown into one weak crushed box. Their packing is the pits, as is their customer service, so many plants aren't what they are labeled, most are very small or dead. I cannot give a worse rating than negative or I would. I have never left negative feedback on anyone before, but have given them months to reply. If a miracle should happen and they redeem themselves, I will update this. Save your money and your nerves and go elsewhere.

I ordered an end of the season special in May,2004, 1/2 price off hostas. They were about 2 weeks late in the delivery date estimated when I ordered. When I inquired if the plants had shipped yet I was told that if they didn't come by a date in May to alert them. They would not provide a shipper number and told me the post office was giving them problems. Ok...plausible, I guess. Except when they came and were postmarked after the date I was told I would receive them. Anyway...they eventually showed up, 20 hostas ordered, 19 shipped (they acknowledged they owed me 8.95 for the plant (out of stock). About 16 of 19 survived (I planted them within 2 hours of receiving About 10 plants,I believe were in good shape and worth the $. I've got about 20 hostas in my garden already. Now...they won't answer emails or a request for a refund for the plant not recieved, and the 3 that were dead on arrival. I have ordered a lot of stuff on the internet and have only had 2 bad experiences....this is one of them! I need to contact the local BBB. Maybe this was just a bad month for GT as some other users had some postive comments, but I'm ticked off enough to post this as a warning. My experience with Gorge Top was bad...I would not do business with them again. Like I say...maybe this was a bad month for the business and they'll make it right. If so...I will post the positive outcome. I want to believe the best in folks......

Half of my original order of Clematis were DOA. Contacted the company and they offered to replace them at no charge. So I placed another order, even through the first one was three weeks late. I never received the replacements or the second order, so I'm out over a hundred dollars. I've tried calling and their mailbox is full; I've sent over a dozen e-mails to every address they have, and have not received a reply (this is over a two month period). I'm planning to file a complaint with the BBB and advise everyone to shop elsewhere!

Unfortunately, my recent experience was not good, and this is the first negative comment in the many, many nurseries I have bought plants from in the mail. I have occasionally received one bad plant here or there, but this was really surprising. You could almost duplicate my comments from the other recent complaints in this list! The only plants that made it in my order were the daylilies (they are such a rugged plant!!) The others were wilted mush and going downhill fast while shipped in cedar chips. (Cedar chips??)I planted them immediately in the hopes that the greenhouse-like weather we have now would revive them, but to no avail. I've seen Wal-Mart and Target sell flowered-out but still alive plants for less than this (and no shipping!)

I ordered from Gorge Top Gardens on May 9, and did not recieve my order until the beginning of June. They emailed me three weeks after my order was placed to tell me that the order would be about another week late due to short daylight hours and short staff. It ended up arriving 2 weeks after that. When I got the order, the plants were horribly wilted and soggy, and I have no idea if they will even make it. Also, I ordered peonies, which I was told were in stock, and did not recieve them. They sent a letter saying that the money was credited back to my account, but it is not. I have attempted to email them numerous times, and have never recieved a response. I will never order from this company again.

Took a chance with their 50% off sale, not a good outcome at all. The box was crushed in. The plants arrived very dry, packed in cedar chips. The hostas look frost bitten and the leaves are all broken and melting. Heuchera and lavender also had rotten leaves. I haven't heard from customer service yet, and they have "Closed" until fall and have taken down their web pages. Feel like I was ripped off!!

I was understanding of their delay. I ordered on 5/7/04 and finally received the order on 5/28. I opened the box to find that almost everything was dead. The cedar shavings they pack with were so soggy that the leaves of the plants were mashed onto the plastic bag, and disintegrated into sludge when I tried to remove them. Ever optimistic, I planted everything anyway, thinking the roots were strong like the website promised. Out of an 11 item order, as of 6/11/04 only ONE thing has survived. Customer service was spotty/nonexistent, I was promised a refund that never happened, and now NO response to any e-mail. BEWARE of this company and AVOID!

Despite I don't know HOW many e-mails to all addresses they provided (sales, customer service, refunds, etc), I never did get either a response or the refund I was originally promised on that sole day I actually heard back from someone. I have since disputed the charge with my credit card company, and they have refunded me in full. Case closed. I urge all of you to do the same. The one thing they sent that survived? Was supposed to be a pink yarrow, guess what, it's blooming now and it is the common, weedy yellow one. So I would make that 0 for 0 for Gorge Top.

I myself am leery of the recent positive ratings for this company. First of all, all of them posted comments the SAME day they signed up. Secondly, this company is the ONLY review they have given, with NO other activity. I hope I am wrong, and I certainly am not trying to accuse innocent people. I am just saying..... 3 positives all in a row.... for a company who's had nothing but negatives recently... looks a bit odd.

I do apologize to those legimate posts, again, not trying to offend anyone, but rather, looking out for my fellow gardeners.
