I placed an order for 73 varieties in August 2012 and received my order in September 2012 after calling a few days prior asking where my order was. 3 or 4 varieties were unavailable and not shipped. I didn't find that out until I received the shipment, but I wasn't charged for them. One was a yellow fleshed watermelon which I was disappointed I wouldn't be able to plant.

I planted the seeds end of May 2013 and have so far had a great season. Excellent germination of everything except lettuce and brussels sprouts, but that may have been my error. Very high quality carrots, beets, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, cabbage, tomatillos, radishes, turnips, rutabagas, melons, kale, etc. Broccoli germinated but didn't turn out very well. Could just be the variety.

I'm sorry to see this company closing after apparently so many negative reviews. They had an impressive selection of high quality seeds and I was looking forward to ordering from them again for next year.

We really like Heirloom Acres! Granted, if we order late in the season, sometimes we have to wait for our order and we have had to wait a while for a refund or two for back ordered items, but this doesn't bother us. Every time we have called with a concern, the person on the other end was attentive and kind. They also have the best prices that we have found online. We will keep ordering from this company as long as their doors our open!

I love using this company & have ordered from them for years! They are maybe not as fast as the bigger boys, since they are family-owned & operated (and might I add a BIG kudos to all the families who slug it out together in business!!), BUT this enables them to be personal, keep their pricing fair and make a wonderful, sustainable difference in our high-powered world. IN my experience, I have found their seed germination rates to always be higher than indicated, their catalogues concise & full of information, and, mostly, I love the fact that they sell open-pollinated seeds. I give them 5 stars!

I planted 12 seeds of each 3 kinds to check germination. All of them came up. I will order from them again.

Said they were very busy and would go out next week. March 14 order was on our front porch all except one package of Basil that was backordered. They lived up to their word and I would buy from again. Their prices are the best!! Everyone deserves a chance. Good luck and hope you are very succesful. Jean

We are very pleased with our experience with this company. We placed our order on 2/27/11, emailed them about a week later to check on the status of when it was going to be shipped and they responded back within a day. We then started to read the negative comments and got worried. We emailed them again to make sure our order went out and they responded again within a day that the full order had already went out. Within a couple of days later (3/14/11) we received our package with the full order inside. We had ordered about $50 of seeds, a large variety of different seeds.

Right after I placed my order with Heirloom Acres, I came across two web sites with horrible feedback on this company. I did not have time to deal with slow shipping of poor germination rates so I panicked and canceled my order. It took about four days for them to acknowledge my cancellation request, however; they did issue a refund to my bank card. I will never know if they would have shipped in a timely manner or if the seeds would have germinated well. I do know , as far as customer service is concerned, they did me right.

After reading all the negatives on this company I still wanted to order from them because they have some varieties that I couldn't find else where inexpensively and also because their seed was very reasonable priced. I pared my list down to an limited number of items which I ordered on February 17. I received an email on March 8 that said they had shipped 03/08/2010 via U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail, Flat Rate Env. It appears to have entered the post office on the 9th and I had it in my mail box today 3/12. It was complete. If you expect a quick turn around from this company I think you need to order somewhere else, but if inexpensive seed is what you want then give them a go. -Doug

Four varieties of bell peppers. 3 packets came and the paprika seeds backorder.
Backorder not a problem for me as long as I get them before the March 1st planting. No ETA given, per usual.

Packaged in a bubble wrap envelope, the arrived seeds all look viable.
Have ordered with Heirloom Acres before and not noticed a germination problem.
I will try to update if I remember :)

I ordered from Heirloom Acres Seed for the first time this year. Was a bit concerned about some of the negative reviews, but rather than just believe what people say, I wrote to Heirloom Acres Seed and asked for their side of the story. It seems they are a company that just was experiencing growing pains. I put in a couple hundred dollar order, with many different varieties, and received everything but 4 minor backorders. After I had placed the order, I realized I needed a few more varieties of seed. So I called them up, and the young lady I spoke with there assured me it would be no problem to add to my order that was already placed. How many seed companies will combine orders? That's just one of the many nice things about doing business with a smaller company. I'm thankful for the opportunity to do business with an overtly Christian, family-operated company, and I plan to order from them again in the future.

I thought I should write after seeing the number of negative comments about this company. I have ordered numerous times from them and have been completely satisfied with their service and product and I am getting ready to place another order with them. Their seeds are excellent - never a problem with germination. It may take 2-3 weeks to receive the order but that is normal and if you order early enough, it should pose no problem. They are a small, family business and because of their outstanding service and product and because of the concerns over the economy, their orders have increased significantly. They don't answer all of my emails because they are so busy and I write too many, but they always get my seed orders to me. I have no reservations about doing business with them and would much rather do business with them than big companies. They have always been honest and trustworthy with me and it's a pleasure to deal with them.

I have been going to the Kirks for the past four years and I have had a wonderful relationship with these folks. Some things people should keep in mind when buying seeds now in these current times as far slow orders is that in a bad economy people have been buying seeds on a scale not seen in modern times. Last summer the Kirks also had a virus put into their system and it was down for a while. The amount of orders he has had this last year (THOM) has been very overwhelming to them . They also learned last year their oldest daughter had a heart defect in a routine physical. When I order from them I always CALL them first to see what is available. People do no realize that this is a very small business and what it takes to run it. I also have a question. Why are major seed companies putting out catalogs in DECEMBER? SO that you order early. First come, first serve. All seed I order has a good germination too. I have had no billing problems with this company ever. The money I spend with them has always been a good investment. AND NO I am not related to them.

I placed my order Jan. 30, 09, got confirmation within minutes (I also placed a order thru another company the same day and this order was recieved on Feb 13, 09). I started getting antsy so decided to call them (Heirloom Acres) on Feb. 16, she said they were backed up due to the holiday (President's Day) and would call me tommorow. I couldn't wait till she called so I called again on Feb. 17, she assured me my order went out that day priorty mail and I would receive it soon. It came in Feb. 19, just as promised. Only had 2 backordered items and I had placed a good sized order $106.
I will do business again and thank you Heirloom Acres for the decent prices you offer on your products.

Ordered seeds on 1/26/08 and just recieved them 2/23/08.

I knew I might be in for a wait when I placed the order to start with (which is why I ordered so early), but at the time, the orders were having a very quick turn around. The prices were VERY good, so I took a shot. I sent an email around 2/20/08 to find out where my order was because the website was saying that the orders were only taking 2 weeks to ship due to the (now) high volume. They were very fast in replying and let me know that my order should have just gone out.

Looking at my order, it appears the cause for the delay in shipping was that 2 items were backordered. To make up for the delay, they gave me a couple double packets of seeds (so it is something I can USE). While it would have been nice to have someone tell me the reason for the hold up, from a buisness standpoint, with hundreds of orders they get, I understand that just wouldn't be doable. The quick response to the email and the extra USEABLE seed, IMO, does make up for it.

So long as you can plan ahead and order early, I will still buy from them.

I also ordered some herb plants, strawberry plants, and asparagus crowns. All of the plants were perfectly and carefully packed. They also are doing great! Also...their customer care is timely and gracious. I have called several times with questions and was met each and every time with patience and reassurance.
