I ordered a Princeton Gold Maple 2 years ago. The tree arrived promptly and in good condition. Being a busy mother of 4, I did not water or fertilize my new baby tree but maybe once or twice in the first year. To my amazement this tree has thrived. It is exceptionally beautiful and very healthy despite my poor rocky soil. I will certainly do business with this company in the future, but only when I have enough time to properly care for my new tree.

I ordered 4 weeping forsythia bushes weeks ago, and received an order confirmation. I have not received the bushes. I have emailed Forestfarm but have not gotten an answer. I will never do business with them again. I can continue to email and try phoning, but that really should not be necessary.

After posting a negative rating on Dave's Garden I received an email and a phone call advising me that my plants were shipped on Nov. 30. I received them today and they were in great shape. The packaging was amazing. Included in the packaging were planting instructions and a Forestfarm catalog.

I ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Forestfarm and I was very, very happy with everything in the order (as usual) except for one thing. I let them know about the issue I had with the one plant, but it wasn't in stock at the time, so they issued a credit for the plant in question. When the plant became available a few months later they sent it to me (at considerably more expense to them in terms of additional shipping fees) at no charge and that's one of the many, many reasons I order from them on a regular basis. They're simply the best. ;)

I tend to get good plants from this nursery and place some good size orders, but last time some plants died and I'm not positive why. I contacted the company and sent images, but the contact person never replied. One was broke to fit in box (died) and two probably got too cold during shipping and died. Most however survived. I've never had 100% survival on a large order. Could be due to shipping (ground instead of air).

On June 18th, 2010, MSplantman changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following:

Moving my neutral to a positive. Ray emailed and credited the lost plants (only 3 of nearly 60 ordered this spring-not bad) to my account (I have been told). I will know for sure next order. Still, I've not had much trouble in the past and many items they carry are hard to find here. So, that's positive in itself.

I ordered a Ralph Shay Flowering Crab Apple which was described on the site as "a vigorous sturdy tree with dark-green, disease-resistant foliage" When it first came all looked well and it started leafing out and put out a few flowers. Now it has developed a rust / blight / fungus - brown spots all over the leaves - I sprayed it with a general purpose fungicide, but can't be sure if it has been stopped from spreading. The area did go through a very cold wet period, but the old crab it was to replace looks much better, it's leaves are 99% disease free. I am concerned this will be an ongoing problem with the new tree and what can be done about it.

On June 14th, 2010, elfeik changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:

As a replacement they sent a Royal Raindrops at no additional cost even though it sells for $10 more than the Shay. It doesn't produce use able fruit, but it is supposed to have showier flowers and high disease resistance, so I guess it's a trade off. Hopefully all my crab apple tree problems are over for the foreseeable future.

I placed an order with Forest Farm for 4 shrubs I had been looking for. The shipment arrived within 10 days packaged perfectly and all plants in one gallon containers, good sized and very healthy. I will absolutly buy from them again

Received a second order from Forest Farm for three trees I had been looking for
Packing was great but I was concerned as all three were losing alot of leaves and had dry tips. I emailed Forest Farm and Ray got back to me right away. We agreed to wait and see what happened. 2 of the tress sprouted new growth very quickly and will be fine. The jury is still out on the weeping katsura but am in contact with them about it. Ray has been GREAT with followthough and advise.
On June 3rd, 2010, dannygates58 added the following:

As I had reported I received a shipment from Forest Farm. Two of the trees have rebounded perfectly and I am still holding out hope for the Katura. Last night I received shipping notification from Ray that they were replacing the Katsura even though I never asked for a replacement. I think people sometimes forget that mail order plants are a joint effort with the customer being resposible to do their part once the plants arrive. Lets face facts... its not natural for a plant to be put in a dark box for a week and shipped across the country!! That said I am amazed and thrilled that a second tree has been sent out. I challange any mail order company to be as honest and outstanding as Forest Farm has been to me.

This was my second order with Forest Farm. I received a serviceberry that had rust. I have emailed them and let them know the problem. I am told that "All serviceberries have rust here--it's common in our area." Wow. Of course, I would expect they would either replace the plant with a healthy one or credit back my card for the cost. No, they have offered to give me a credit on my account. Now, why would I want that knowing they are willing to sell an unhealthy plant? No, I don't think I want any more unhealthy plants. Of course I am disappointed. I will update this review if they have a change of heart.

Update: Ray has really gone the extra mile to make sure this was made right. He offered to replace the plant with one that had been treated for the rust or credit my credit card for the cost of the plant (plus shipping), my choice. Thank you, Ray!

We live in the kansas city area and were planting a bird haven on our 2 1/2 acres. We waited (1year) until we could actually see survival of plants after they were in ground before writing a review. We had a good idea of what we wanted, but forestfarm had some good ideas with the rest. Upon delivery I was very pleased with the way in which plants were packaged and treated. I would suspect the packing to be similar to receiving a fine oil painting.(LOTS of wrapping and packing material) We had a large order (around 40-50 plants), and a lot were the gallon size. ALL plants arrived alive. Now after winter has come and gone the plants have been in ground for almost a year now. Only about 5 specimens did not make it (1 of the 4 Oregon grapes and several of the smaller tuber plants ). Overall we are very pleased with our experience, and would recommend future purchases. Thanks

Generally good experience with this vendor. Great experience. They followed up on my order and shipped when they said they'd ship. Prices are very reasonable, and other than a dormant plant (which was noted, and has since shown growth), all plants were a good size and healthy looking. All, including the dormant plant, have settled in well and put on new growth. . They also followed up on a question I had submitted with the original order. The selection is incredible, I don't know how they keep so many different plants in stock. I thought shipping costs were very reasonable given the size of the boxes I received and the quantity of plants. They do recommend that you buy the gallon plants in quantities of four to get the best shipping rates. I'm in the same state, so shipping was lightning fast for me. I'll definitely order again.

Forestfarm Nursery is stupendous, with an amazing selection of rare plants! I have ordered many plants from them. The tube sized plants sometimes are small (not always) but this is reflected in the price. Also, the tubes seem to give the plants a deeper root system, so they can grow well in the landscape compared to other plants of the same size. I love Forestfarm!

I have dealt with Forestfarm for years and have been perfectly satisfied with every order I've gotten, both when I lived in MS, and now here in GA. Their shipping is impeccable and their customer service is outstanding. They call if they have questions and keep you appraised on a shipment status by email. They sell plants for the both the NW and plants for everywhere else too, and as long as you know what your planting, and understand your climate and ecological requirements, your plants will thrive. But, if you try to grow plants intended for Oregon's mild summers and you have hot summers, you're going to be in trouble though. Know your plants before you order! Some of the trees I've ordered from Forestfarm are well over 15-20 feet high after only 3 years and we had a serious drought for 2 years in that period. Research what you order before you buy. These folks have some really hard-to-find stock, and you won't be disappointed.

I really love this company and have no regrets whatsoever in doing business with them. I would much rather pay more in shipping (the plants come from Oregan to Oklahoma) than shop anywhere else, even my local garden center. I am living in the USA right now and very much missing England and it's native plants. Some very common British plants are nearly impossible to find in the USA. I spotted something similar to (but not exactly) what I was looking for on the planting list at show garden in the Philadelphia area, listing Forest Farm as the source. I contacted them, told them what I had seen, etc and asked whether it was possible to get the plant I was seeking. Ray responded by email and told me they don't normally sell it but that they use it as root stock for other varieties. He checked and found that they had two plants on which the "fancier" grafted variety had died back and offered me the two rootstock plants- not normally for sale- at a very good price. I really appreciated him going out of his way to find what I wanted and emailing me several times to make special arrangements. The woman with whom I spoke on the phone (Sorry I forget her name! Linda maybe?) was extremely pleasant and professional -- and now I have two May Blossom (Hawthorns) just like back home in England.

The only negative- which is no fault of Forest Farm - is the cost of shipping (esp by air) to the East Coast. If shipping were to cost less I wouldn't hesitate to buy much more.

I thought this was an alright nursery. I had bought from them before and was pleased. But then I ordered again, and got my shippment just a few minutes ago. Their packing methods could stand a great more experience. I had two ferns and 2 evergreen shrubs. The evergreens appear to be OK although they are a bit on the raggy side. One of the ferns, a Red Painted fern, looks as though it has never seen water and the soil is hard as rock, the fern itself is dried up and shriveled. The other one is OK. But what really irritated me was, there was tape on the fern leaves making it very difficult to remove without ripping off the leaves.
Don't think I will buy any more, from them.
