I ordered onions from Dixondale Farms in March 2012 asking that they be sent immediately. Heard nothing for more than a month, so I finally contacted them. They said they had "problems" and that trucks only went out at certain times. I asked that they immediately expedite my order, and they told me the soonest it could go out was April 16, 2012, 6 weeks after I placed the order. On April 19, I got a shipped notice, but don't know if I'll get the product next week or not.

It is really a shame that this company not only has "problems" this year, but that they haven't communicated with their customers. After years of saying how good they were, I have to now say they deserve a negative rating.

I finally got my onions on April 24 and that's pretty late for Colorado planting. Just wanted to let everyone know that I heard from Bruce "The Onionman" directly and he seems convinced that he needs to make some changes to improve order handling. So, I'll probably order from them next year to learn whether they really took action to avoid problems with late orders and lack of communication. I'm encouraged, but I need to see results. Thus, I'm changing my rating to neutral and hoping that next year they get a positive rating.

I placed an order on 4/10, received a shipment notice on 4/11 and as of today, 4/19, still have not received my onions. Because it was supposed to be shipped priority according to their website, I expected the onions on the 13th or 14th (2-3 day delivery per USPS and past experience). I emailed Dixondale on the 17th inquiring if the order actually shipped. After receiving no reply, I tried contacting them again, on the 18th, via their website but they still have not responded. At this point, due to their silence, I have no way to tell if the package is lost in the mail or was never shipped or was shipped late. What a shame...it is the first time that I have had a problem with receiving a delivery, let alone from a "top 5" company. And their silence only makes it worse...

I received an email from Dixondale this morning stating that the onions are shipping today (the 19th), I am not sure why they sent me a previous email with a ship date of the11th. I'll update my rating after I receive my order.
On April 22nd, 2012, Old_Gardener changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

I received my trial order on Saturday the 21st. Of the intermediate mix, the white candy onions are scallion sized, the red variety is equivalent to a thick pencil lead, and the yellow are somewhere in between. Because the onions are fresher and overall larger than I usually receive from another vendor, I am upgrading my initial rating to a neutral. I do believe that Dixondale cares about their reputation but I cannot make it a *positive* due to their problems with communication prior to posting here.

Great onions - I ordered a lot to get the best price. Unfortunately, my yard isn't that big, so I ran low on room for other things. As someone else said, they are pricey and I can get them much cheaper by waiting and getting them locally. If you are in a hurry to plant and don’t mind paying more for that privilege, they are an excellent company.

As a side thought, the post office put them in a plastic bag because of the strong smell through the building (it is a small p.o.). Thank goodness my mail carrier is a gardener and could appreciate them!

Good selection
great service

stock arrived on time and in decent condition although the leeks had some that were slightly moldy and rotted

What I don't care for is they are very pricey. If I just wait another 4-6 weeks garden centers here will have the same varieties for this area for $1-1.50 a bundle compared to the $8.45 a bundle they charge (before shipping).
