Red worms will die at temperatures lower than 32oF and higher than 90oF. You can't count on the carrier conditioning his storage and delivery (truck) spaces. People need to keep this in mind when ordering their worms and choose a time of year when this kind of mishap is unlikely. Another thing is this insanity of ordering from a supplier 3,000 miles distant, this does not make any sense at all, the greater the distance, the more chance of delays, especially from USPS. Uncle Jim's is in south central Pennsylvania. They have an A+ BBB rating, there shouldn't be a problem with them. One last note is that F.O.B. means buyer takes ownership of the product once it's delivered to the carrier, which means any problems that develop with damage, to include freezing or overheating, are to be settled between the buyer and the carrier, NOT the seller. Daves Garden reviews are full of complainers who will complain about everything and anything except themselves. Do your homework before you buy.

Jim's emailed me within the day when I sent question to them.

My comment is in regard to red worms.com. I chose this company over Jim's because of this site.....wrong...wrong..wrong. Everything I read negative on this site double for redworms.com. This company is located in NC and since I placed my order they have ignored all emails re my not receiving my worms as promised. Terrible company...this is the company that should have site telling people not to buy from them!

Alive and Well! My worms are happy and healthy eating alot of leftover greens in my compost bin. I am very pleased with the service the company has provided me. I choose this provider because they have been around for over 30 years and had a 1-800 number to call if any issues arose. Most of the other internet worm farms seem to be fly by night companies with no phone numbers and no history,

It amazes me that it is now possible to get on the internet and order live compost worms and have them show up alive via mail order!

I rate my customer experience with a positive one for 2 reasons. 1st- I have very little knowledge of vermicomposting and they provided a phone number and help at the other end. When I called I talked to a person and had all my simple questions answers in a very polite manner. They were enthusiastic about my project and gave me ideas on what to do and what not to do.

The 2nd reason was the price and service- The price was the best on the internet and the service was great- I got my worms with several says. I ordered on a Friday and my worms were sent Monday- I got them Wednesday.

My worms arrived 3 days ago. My worms were alive and healthy. But many did try to escape my worm farm the first night! Luckily, I happened to go out to show my husband my worms when he got home from work and stop the escape. I was added more damp newspaper as a barrier. I also was informed for the first 24 hours the worms may need a light over top of them to force them into their new environment.

I've ordered from Uncle Jims Worm Farm for several years now and can honestly say they are a real friendly company. Most "Worm Farms" are just drop shippers and they all seem to fold within a year or two.

Right now I am rating Uncle Jims as neutral, I placed my order for 2000 red wrigglers on march 31, 2010. Never received a email stating they were on the way. I did send 2 emails asking about my order status without an answer. I live in Pa the worms should have been here by today at the latest(Wednesday) if mailed on Monday as per his shipping details.
I finally called and after numerous busy signals did get thru. I spoke to Jeff who could not find a mailing label and then advised me my worms were not sent! I ordered my worms to be delivered this week as I was off from work and the worms would not need to sit on my front porch for 12 hours or more.
Jeff send they would send them today and hopefully be at my home tomorrow. I hope so. Guess we will see, I am glad I used paypal.

My worms have arrived, I found them on my porch when I got home from work this evening. Very small package, with a weight of 1 lb, the worms themselves were 12.6 ounces. Very very tiny. Not sure that I will place another order with Uncle Jim.

Wish I would have seen all this negative feedback before I ordered! Will keep you updated and let you all know the outcome...I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I dont want to post negative until I receive my worms. My worms were suppose to ship Monday. I called today (Wed) to check on the status. They said they had not mailed out yet but they will mail them today. That could mean sitting at the post office over the weekend. Their voice mail box is full and not getting answers on my emails. No tracking sent with orders either.

One of the reason Im ordering is I am breeding my own so I can provide local buyers with worms without having to go through all the hassles with ordering the worms. My last shipment from another supplier was lost in the mail.

The website says "Guaranteed Live". It also says ship anywhere in the US in 2-3 days. I ordered 2000 red worms which took 10 days to arrive by priority mail and all were dead of course. Called and was told that they would ship out another batch and also confirmed 2 days later that it had in fact shipped out on Monday. Today is Thursday and no worms. Hope if fading that I will get exactly what I ordered. I will update once I receive the order.

I see that someone from Uncle Jim"s worm farm tried to post a positive comment on here posing as a customer - that's really detestable. I ordered 1000 red wigglers and 250 super reds - they arrived late by about a week but they did arrive with some alive. The super reds were still healthy and are now thriving but the regulars were very dry - nearly all died. They are supposed to reproduce very quickly so I hope I will soon have enough to do the job. I have never ordered worms before but it seems to be a bit of a crapshoot - I'll look for a worm farm closer to home so shipping doesn't take so long. If they had been sent second day air they would have been fine.

The worms arrived late and dead and VERY ripe. I chalked it up to UPS error. The shipment was incomplete as well...no vermipods.
So far I'm not at all bothered.
I call and they tell me they will send out replacement worms the following monday. Vermipods arrive separately in my mailbox (alive?).
No worms.
I get a call from Jim personally (which I appreciated) and he seems very cooperative and concerned.
He said to email him if worms did not arrive by that coming friday (8/22/08) and he would personally express mail me 2000 worms.
They did not arrive (I suspect because they were not sent since it's now two weeks later) so I emailed (no response) and emailed (still no response) and called (no response).
I'll keep you posted how it all ends up...at least I was not called "simple minded"....yet.
