First I would like to address the comments made by iloveleeches. How can Uncle Jim's Worm Farm be blamed for your stupidity? If you were so angry about them not having leeches, why did you still make a purchase? If you don't live in Canada, why are you complaining about them not delivering there? As far as you not being home when your mealworms were delivered, that's YOUR fault for not making arrangements. As far as your kids opening your package, maybe they need to learn some discipline and respect other people's property. Oh, and by the way... did your dog die? Probably not from eating mealworms.
Now for MY experience. I ordered 1000 European Night Crawlers on Saturday. My order shipped on Monday. My post office called me Wednesday morning to let me know my package had arrived. My worms were healthy and ready for their new home. I'm very pleased with the speed of delivery and customer service I received from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm.

I had a very positive experience with Uncle Jim's worm farm. I placed my order for a worm factory and 2000 red wiggler worms. My worm factory arrived as expected through FedEx, but the USPS lost my worms. I called Uncle Jim's Worm Farm and they promptly sent me out a new shipment. To make a long story short. When the worms arrived, not just the newest package showed up but both packages of worms showed up. I checked the oldest package and after about 14 days in the postal service, most of them were still alive. Of course they were a little sluggish. I immediately got them some water added to the peat moss, and put them in my homemade worm bin. The worms that were shipped later were just fine. I called Uncle Jim's to see if they wanted me to pay for the first worms sent since most were alive. They told me no need to pay, just keep them for my trouble. I now have a vermicomposting machine. Thanks Uncle Jim. I will definitely be back to buy more.

This is my first time ordering from UJWF. I was informed they ship on Mondays. Prior to my delivery arrival I received an update from uncle Jim. My worms arrived on Wednesday (2 days after shipping). They appear to be active and healthy and acclimated to their new environs immediately. I just hope I educated myself enough to keep them alive and productive. I am very pleased with my dealings and product.

I have always had a good experience with this company until the last time when the USPS twice left the Priority mail sit outside in the sun for several days before sheiiping or not shipping at all. Customer service at Uncle Jim's was very helpful and I finally gat a replacement that the USPS delivered as it should.
Just last week the USPS lost my Priority package of a hand made item for my daughter. It was tracked as out for delivery but never arrived and the USPS has advised me to file a claim which is difficult to do for a hand made item.
I hope Uncle Jim's will switch to UPS in the near future.

I placed an order for 3,000 Red Wigglers recently and had issues due to my post office (military installation). I was worried how Uncle Jim's would handle it since it wasn't really their fault. They were so quick to reply to my email about it and shipped a replacement order (and then some) the following Monday. The replacement was full of happy wiggly worms that are tearing apart my compost bins as I type this. The company even followed up with me to be sure everything was in order. I will definitely order from them the next time we have to move.

I can't comment on all of the negative reviews, but I have to say that I am very satisfied with the worms and the service we have received. I have ordered a total of 14,000 worms in two shipments from this company and both orders arrived earlier than expected, the worms were healthy and all are living well. We all need to remember that the worms are "live" creatures and so they are at the mercy of the weather, distance and the carrier. In addition to having to consider the weather when they are travelling, being shipped in peat moss, which dries out, means they might dry out too if they are in transit for many, many days - and worms need moisture to live. Personally I can see no way to add enough water in their bedding, that the worms are shipped in, to keep them moist without either smothering them or having a box that will break apart from too much moisture during shipping. UncleJims does a very good job of trying to control many of the shipping variables by shipping them in "travel" bags that are both somewhat waterproof and permeable so they can breathe. I would like to also say that i have ordered worms from other suppliers, and UncleJims is the only one that has handled my order properly. I would definitely buy from them again.

I was very impressed by Uncle Jim's Worm Farm and their level of professionalism! I had been shopping for worms and a bin for some time when I finally decided to just go for it when they ran a summer special. I purchased 2000 worms and got another 1000 free! I was really worried that because it was in the middle of the summer most of the worms would be dead on arrival because of the heat. To my surprise and sheer delight the worms arrived alive and very well! I put them all into their new home and all of them crawled into their new bedding. In the weeks and now 2 months since their arrival I love my worms!!

I ordered 2000 red wiglers from Uncle Jims and a week later they seem to be doing fine. This is my first time doing this and so far it's going well. They were quick responding to emails for me.

The only problem I had with the UJ experience is that there was no confirmation email explaining the process and approximately when I would receive the worms. An auto response email could be easily applied.

Other than that it's been a good experience.

I had a bit of trouble with the website, since I first ordered 1000 Red Wrigglers, then after the fact, I tried to change the order to 2000. I could not get the order to go through on the website, so I contacted Jim and told him I would send the payment direct through PayPal. When my order arrived the following week, it's label read "1000 Reds." So, I contacted Jim again and he said he would ship the additional worms the following Monday. We had some unusually cold weather the following week, and my worms arrived dead. I contacted Jim again and he apologized and sent me another shipment. He emailed me several times to let me know when the shipment would arrive and sent it with extra special packaging. The worms were thriving when they arrived! Jim was a complete gentleman through the entire process. I have never experienced better service. I highly recommend "Uncle Jim's Worm Farm"!

So very happy with UJWF.
How kind and thoughtful.
I recently ordered a 5000 ct red worms.(and free shipping)
At the same time I tried unsuccessfully to add a double order of super worms (1000 $39.99)
But wanted them shipped together with the free shipping.
The ordering system is fixed in place with ship cost specific for each item, so order kept adding shipping.
I just then, ordered the 5000 RW's with free ship.

I did then add a comment to the order that I would have liked to have added the super worms :( but not the shipping.
Well I got my worm order as scheduled, alive and well.
But to my suprize, they also sent the 1000 super worms.
I e-mailed UJ and told him of the error and needed to pay for them, but was told not to worry about it.
I was compelled to let folks know that Uncle Jims WF
does good business and even when offered payment, just let it go.
I will reccomend UJ's to everyone.
And of course will do just that.
Thank you Uncle Jim

I ordered 500 Red Wiggler about two months ago. They arrived on time. I can't attest to the exact number of worms that showed up in the bag but it didn't seem like 500. I really wasn't concerned about it though because I realize this is an approximation rather than an exact count. We had one of the hottest summers this year with temperatues frequently in the high 90's to mid 100's and the worms show up alive. They were very sluggish and small (probably due to the material they were shipped in) but I dropped them into their new bedding and they quickly disappeared into their new environment. After a month and half I noticed cacoons and small worms in my bins so they appear to be doing very well. I am pleased with my worm purchase. I would order again but given how fast my worms seem to be reproducing, I don't know that I will have a need.

I ordered 2,000 Red Wigglers and 500 Mealworms from Uncle Jim's. I received my order a week ahead of when I initially thought! I placed my order on a Monday night and Uncle Jim only ships out on Monday mornings (to avoid being hung up in the mail on weekends). The following Monday was Memorial Day. With post offices being closed for a federal holiday, I figured on the order being shipped out on June 4th and arriving June 6th. To my surprise, I received an email from Uncle Jim on May 28th with a link to track the shipping progress. My order arrived on Wed., May 30th!

Besides me being happy about the early arrival of my order, the worms were very much alive. The Mealworms settled into their new home right away. The Red Wigglers are just starting to settle in. The bar is set high, as per a YouTube video; Uncle Jim treats his worms well, but they settled in eventually!

All in all, I am very pleased with this company. All of these negative reviews made me worry for nothing! I will be conducting business with this company again, when the need arises (can never have 'too many' worms!). Thank You Uncle Jim!

Recieved my order of 1000 Red Wiggler Worms only two days after completing online order! Awesome! Spoke to Uncle Jim's on the phone before order arrived and they told me instructions to follow when I received my worms, and also told me that instructions would be in the package. Received worms, all seemed very active. Placed them in keyhole garden as per instructions (on a VERY windy West Texas day, however) and majority of worms did not survive. Sadly, I called Uncle Jim's and they readily offered to ship another order that I expect to receive tomorrow. I strongly believe that it wasn't Uncle Jim's fault that so many of the worms died, but MINE for introducing them to their new environment on such a windy day. Regardless, this company was completely willing to replace the order. How can you beat customer service like that?!?! Highly recommend.

I ordered from Uncle Jim on Wednesday, I received an e-mail letting me know that the order would be shipped the following Monday, Tuesday afternoon I got home from work and there was my order (I used standard shipping) I immediately opened the package and followed the simple directions. After picking the appropriate sites for my worms I placed them in my yard and the worms began tunneling into the ground, I went back to the 2 sites I had placed the Super Reds about 15 minutes later and all the worms had disappeared into the soil. Very, very satisfied. I live in North Carolina and we have hard clay, although I have been using organic fertilizers and soil amendments for 3 years now, so my soil is a bit more porous than most. I was extremely satisfied. I placed a double order (1,000 super reds) and they came in 2 bags (front and back yard) very happy, I didn't count to see if I'd gotten exactly 1,000 since I have a life, but there were a lot of worms and everyone of them survived.

I eventually purchased the Worm Factory 360 and worms from the Uncle Jim's website. As I expected, the factory came separately from the worms. When the worms arrived, it had been over the Thanksgiving weekend and they was a one day delay before I could get them. Some had died, but not all of them. That was on a Friday. On the following Monday Jim had already sent another batch of worms to me. They arrived a couple days later and were just fine! This company, and Jim, have been nothing short of friendly, helpful and quick to reply. I would definitely recommend this company!

I've ordered several times from Uncle Jim's and also talked to them for advice on gardening and use of their compost.

I see some of these negative reviews on here and it looks to me like people think worms and worm farmers are machines. Fact is, when you order live organisms to be shipped hundreds or thousands of miles, you are dealing with a dynamic situation.

It's not like ordering a book from Amazon. Living organisms may not always survive the harsh handling in the shipping system. The complainers seem to be people who are into instant gratification, and who expect the impossible. In every case, you can see that Uncle Jim's does whatever it takes to make things right.

Those of us in the gardening community need to have some respect and patience with each other. The way some of these negative commenters are slagging Uncle Jim's, it reflects more on the commenters' state of mind than it does on Uncle Jim's.

The bottom line is that Uncle Jim's are good people and they are helping the world get into organic gardening. Negative commenters- have a little respect, ok?

I ordered 2,000 red wigglers through Uncle Jim's for just under $40 including shipping. I notified my post office that I would be receiving live worms. Sure enough, I got a phone call from the post office bright and early on Thursday morning (worms ship on Mondays to avoid waiting in the post office through the weekend). The worms were neatly tied up in a mesh sack and packed in a box lined with newspaper. I have no way of knowing if there were 2,000 worms, but there sure were a heck of a lot of worms! I only saw about 4 dead worms out of the whole pile. Compared to the worms I originally obtained locally, Uncle Jim's worms were really robust. Good size, much longer than my locally obtained worms, and once they hit the prepared bedding, they took on a beautiful shine. They were a little sluggish for the first few hours, but had perked right up by the next morning. I would recommend this company without hesitation for anyone wanting live worms for composting. Just make sure you notify the post office ahead of time so you can be called when they arrive. I'm so glad that I won't be having to throw out so much kitchen waste. I just didn't want to start up an outdoor compost bin here because there are quite a few bears in the area. Overall rating: 2 thumbs up!

I ordered 2000 worms from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm On Sept 22, 2010. My worms were shipped USPS priority on the following Monday, just as the website said they would. They arrived at my PO Box on Wed Sept, 29th (a two day journey from PA to MT). My worms were small, as I expected, but I have no doubt there were 2000 in the box.

My daughters (ages 2 and 3) and I brought them home and added them to our already started compost bin. We had our compost bin set up for over 2 weeks prior to ordering the worms and had been adding fruit and veggie scraps during that time. We made sure the soil was moist and the fruit and veggie scraps were mixed in with the soil. We made a small hole in the center of the soil and added the worms all at once. We covered them with wet newspaper and put the top on our bin. We checked on our worms this morning (two days after adding them to the bin) to see how they are doing and I am pleased to report that they are happy, super fat, wriggling, and thriving!

I will say that I wish Uncle Jim's worm farm had sent me a confirmation that they had shipped the worms and had provided me with a tracking #. I paid through PayPal and if they had printed their shipping label through PayPal, I would have been emailed confirmation that my order had been shipped and would have gotten a delivery confirmation #. This practice would really protect Uncle Jim's Worm Farm as a company and let customers know when to expect their worms with no extra effort on the company's part as PayPal would send the email automatically. Besides, delivery confirmation is free if you ship via PayPal for priority packages so there is nothing to lose or extra cost involved for that peace of mind. It would just give a better record for customer and the business as a whole so everyone was on the same page.

We live in a very rural part of MT where mail is not delivered to individual homes so everyone in my town has PO Boxes. I think it certainly helped my worms that they were not subject to extreme temps due to the fact that they were waiting for me at the PO in a temp controlled environment and not just sitting in my mailbox or on a front porch waiting for me to get home and unpack them.

All in all, my experience with Uncle Jim's Worm Farm was a very positive one. As a customer I am happy with my purchase and my worms have a happy new home.

I came here to post about my experience with Uncle Jims. I got a Worm Factory on Craigslist but could not find a local source for worms. I made many calls and used the find worms site to no avail.

Finally I ordered 2,000 redworms from Uncle Jims for $36 shipped. I used a 10% coupon code UJW10 that I found on retailmenot.com.

I educated myself as to what to expect by watching the youtube video someone posted on Garden Web about what a pound of worms should look like. I also found that (in general and very roughly) 1000 redworms=1 lb. SO I was expecting a big old box weighing well over 2 pounds with bedding.

What I got was a small bag (a couple of large handfuls) of seemingly healthy worms. I weighed them on my food scale, and the worms with bag and bedding weighed just over 1.5 pounds. It didn't LOOK like 2,000 worms, but it was hard to tell. I do know that some sites said worms can lose half of their body weight in shipment. If that was the case, and assuming I got average size worms, 2,000 worms might only weigh a pound. It was a hard call for me, but I wanted to make sure I got what I paid for.

I sent a polite email explaining that I did not think I had received 2,000 worms, but that I could not be sure as I didn't count them. I listed the weight of the bag when I received it. Four days later (today), a brand new large bag of healthy worms showed up in my mail box. It was a nice surprise, because I was all set to call them and have to argue my case. All of my worms appear to be healthy and thriving. I'm happy with the price I paid and excited about starting this project.

I am very pleased with the customer service, and will order from them again if I need worms in the future.
