Positive | SteveOrg (1 review) | On Dec 13, 2011, SteveOrg Unionville, NC wrote: I ordered from Uncle Jim on Wednesday, I received an e-mail letting me know that the order would be shipped the following Monday, Tuesday afternoon I got home from work and there was my order (I used standard shipping) I immediately opened the package and followed the simple directions. After picking the appropriate sites for my worms I placed them in my yard and the worms began tunneling into the ground, I went back to the 2 sites I had placed the Super Reds about 15 minutes later and all the worms had disappeared into the soil. Very, very satisfied. I live in North Carolina and we have hard clay, although I have been using organic fertilizers and soil amendments for 3 years now, so my soil is a bit more porous than most. I was extremely satisfied. I placed a double order (1,000 super reds) and they came in 2 bags (front and back yard) very happy, I didn't count to see if I'd gotten exactly 1,000 since I have a life, but there were a lot of worms and everyone of them survived. |
Positive | TNR5683 (1 review) | On Dec 3, 2011, TNR5683 Cortez, CO wrote: I spent several weeks researching worm composting and the different products out there before purchasing my own "worm farm". I came across Uncle Jim's website. Being new to this, I had sent several emails to Jim with questions on the products he was selling on his website. Every reply from him was quick, concise and very helpful. I eventually purchased the Worm Factory 360 and worms from the Uncle Jim's website. As I expected, the factory came separately from the worms. When the worms arrived, it had been over the Thanksgiving weekend and they was a one day delay before I could get them. Some had died, but not all of them. That was on a Friday. On the following Monday Jim had already sent another batch of worms to me. They arrived a couple days later and were just fine! This company, and Jim, have been nothing short of friendly, helpful and quick to reply. I would definitely recommend this company! |

I recently decided to order five pounds of red wigglers from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm. There first mistake was shipping when the weather was in the upper 90's. When the worms arrived they looked rough but most of them were alive. Got them cooled down and put in a small bin with good moisture and the same kind of bedding that I have used for a long time. Two days later they started dieing very quickly. The PH level of the soil was good, the temp was perfect and the moisture was perfect. Not only did they die but my other worms started quickly dieing. Now we are in a panic trying to save worms that I have been raising for 8 years. It now looks as if we will have to start from scratch. What ever was wrong with these worms has spread to all of them. E-mails and messages have gone ignored. I am out $100.00 and 8 years of work. Thanks Uncle Jim. |

They say they would ship it on monday(we called friday) 2 days after, our orders arrived. The packaging was neat. We decided to weigh them because of the notion that 1,000 red wigglers should weigh 10 lbs. ... well, it was a little less than 10 lbs. so we didn't mind because of the shipping it went through, besides, the worms were healthy and lively. 3 weeks after(now) the worms are thriving on our bins. We will refer them on other communities. Good experience. |

Positive | jobertmoler (1 review) | On May 13, 2011, jobertmoler Plano, TX wrote: I ordered 2000 red worms from their website. I think I got more than 2000 red wigglers because I included what I think was baby Red Wiggler(they were) the thing was that some of the worms were kinda tired. I called their customer service right away then they told me to give the worms this oatmeal treat. So I did and I covered it and let the bin undisturbed for the day. The following day, I was excited to check my bin and to check on the worms. To my relief, I was very happy to see the worms wriggling actively when disturbed. Their customer service was really great. |

So i called the phone number that was posted clearly on the front page, beneath the clever photograph of uncle jim wearing an intercom set. The customer service representative was very informative, and was able to address my concerns with clear details, instructions and suggestions. I received the worms as estimated, but i was skeptical about how many were actually there. Rather than jump the gun, i did as instructed, adding water to their dehydrated bodies, and surely enough, they did plump back up to much more healthy sizes. I was very pleased with my 1000 red wriggler order, and very satisfied to the assurance that i was offered by their helpful staff. I will sure order from this company again. |
Negative | Pitcom (24 reviews) | On Apr 4, 2011, Pitcom Avondale, PA (Zone 6b) wrote: I ordered 2000 worms from this company. the transaction was very smooth, and it only took around four days to get the order. I happen to live only a couple hours away. Why I am posting a negative review is because i did not get 2000 worms. We painstakingly counted these worms and received less than 600. I wish i had seen the reviews here before ordering from this company. it seems they routinely ship much less than the ordered amount, in the hopes you will not spend the time to actually count the worms. I would never order from this company again. |

This is a first time purchase with this company and I am absolutely happy with every aspect of my experience with them. I did have a small problem with some of my worms not making it but I do not blame it on the company! I am completely satisfied and will make more and larger purchases in the very near future! |

I received the order shortly after, on Wednesday. I was concerned with their condition, but after reading the instructions, felt at ease that it was normal for them to appear small and unhealthy after a long transit in "bone dry" peat moss. The wigglers bounced back in as little as a day after i gave them some water, and plumped up to a marvelous size. My experience was worth what i paid for. Definitely a great and reliable seller, with a great and informative website. |

Negative | rsai (1 review) | On Jan 19, 2011, rsai Sunnyvale, CA wrote: I would not recommend dealing with this company if you are trying to purchase red wigglers (eisenia foetida). I purchased two pounds of worms from them but noticed the next day their crawl behavior was different from normal reds. I did my homework and sure enough, I received blue worms (perionyx excavatus) they have a blue sheen if you shine light on them. another way I was able to tell is that their eggs are actually white and tiny not like regular red wiggler eggs which look brown and are about 3-4 times larger. I have raised reds in the past, ordered from the same company so I know for sure there is a difference. Even my gf, sister and mother were able to point out that these worms were different--and they haven't done the extensive research. |

I did get the tracking number Monday, but it wasn't registering well. I expected them on Thursday...Nothing. Friday came, and I received a letter in the mailbox telling me that they couldn't deliver them because I wasn't home-OUR WHOLE FAMILY WAS HERE! I wasn't able to get in to the post office til Monday when they opened, and when I got there, all but about 100 worms were dead. I fully blame the post office for this mess, but I decided to email Jim and let him know what happened just because. Without even asking, he offered to ship me out a NEW package of worms with guaranteed shipping! Awesome, awesome customer service. I will be ordering from Uncle Jim again, and I will pass on to all my friends that they should do the same. Thanks a ton, Jim!!! |
Positive | sandyopal (1 review) | On Dec 17, 2010, sandyopal Chugiak, AK wrote: I am so pleased with Uncle Jim's. I live up near Anchorage, Alaska, and it's cold (mid-December)! I recently set up a worm composter in my kitchen, but was having a hard time finding locally grown worms. One place sells red wigglers, but it is nearly $10 per 50 worms!! I ordered 2,000 red wigglers through Uncle Jim's for just under $40 including shipping. I notified my post office that I would be receiving live worms. Sure enough, I got a phone call from the post office bright and early on Thursday morning (worms ship on Mondays to avoid waiting in the post office through the weekend). The worms were neatly tied up in a mesh sack and packed in a box lined with newspaper. I have no way of knowing if there were 2,000 worms, but there sure were a heck of a lot of worms! I only saw about 4 dead worms out of the whole pile. Compared to the worms I originally obtained locally, Uncle Jim's worms were really robust. Good size, much longer than my locally obtained worms, and once they hit the prepared bedding, they took on a beautiful shine. They were a little sluggish for the first few hours, but had perked right up by the next morning. I would recommend this company without hesitation for anyone wanting live worms for composting. Just make sure you notify the post office ahead of time so you can be called when they arrive. I'm so glad that I won't be having to throw out so much kitchen waste. I just didn't want to start up an outdoor compost bin here because there are quite a few bears in the area. Overall rating: 2 thumbs up! |
