Lady in Red ferns arrived in record time, impeccably packed and healthy as did the amsonia hubrectii. Although the anemone 'Crispa' were equally well packed of the five ordered, one has died and one is almost dead due to very little root systems. The other three are alive but not thriving. I do not blame Crownsville for the last three but the other two didn't stand a chance; however, I will withhold criticism because I have failed to contact them (Busy, busy, busy. Shame on me.) I do believe they are a good place to do business with. I will update this after I contact them.

This was my first order from Crownsville, and I couldn't have been more pleased. It was only a small order of 8 plants, but they were packed beautifully and large for mail order plants.
They are already making clumps and sending up buds. The
Echinaceas I got from Wayside Gardens cannot compare in quality, packing or price. I have ordered from their affiliate Bridgewood Nursery which specializes in Hostas, and had the same great experience.

Ordered Trollius and Amsonia. The order was promptly confirmed and arrived very quickly. The condition of the plants was great - as good as I've ever received.

I've dealt with some of the better web retailers, e.g. Oakes Daylilies, Song Sparrow Farms, Heirloom Roses; Crownsville filled my order faster than the others, and the quality was equal to or better than anywhere else.

Received my order today and very pleased with fresh sassy foliage but even more important all have good healthy roots. Believe all my plants will really leap into growth as they were so neatly packed... not a leaf showed damage or stress. joshz8a

I ordered campanula, geraniums, and Leopards bane from Crownsville on May 15 via the internet and the plants were on my doorstep today, May 18th! They were extremely well packaged - not a stem out of place and all of a very good size for the price. Several were on sale for less than half of what I could have purchased them locally!!!

Crownsville kept me informed via email every step of the way including confirmation of the order, when they planned to ship, and when shipping occurred. Very personable and easy to deal with.

I ordered 32 Gaillardia 'Fanfare' on a Monday afternoon and the plants were at my house on Wednesday. The size and quality of the plants was outstanding. They were carefully packed and not a stem was broken. I was thrilled and will definitely order from Crownsville again.

I received my order yesterday, and like many other reviewers, I couldn't believe the size and health of the plants! I had received an email from the company early last week, saying that 2 of my plants were unacceptable for shipping, but they recommended similar plants to substitute. When I emailed back, I told them about our chilly weather, and they shipped a week later. The plants were in large pots, carefully wrapped in wood shavings, and each pot had a bamboo stake to keep the plants in place and the box from collapsing on them. One box had obviously been upside down for quite awhile during shipping, but only 1 plant was out of place, and none were damaged. The ferns were immense, and in general the plants are obviously quite well established, with large rhizomes or shoot bases. Even the Heuchera "Velvet Night," which they had warned me they would probably send later since it was so small, was much larger than plants I had purchased locally (and paid much more for). I had never ordered from this company before, but I will DEFINITELY order again next year. Their prices are very reasonable, they have wonderful specials (with plants you actually want), and free shipping over $200. Thanks, Crownsville!

I ordered 5 plants online on the 24th, rec'd email that they were out of 1 plant. Rec'd order on the 27th. Plants were good sized, very reasonably priced, and packed so well that they couldn't have been damaged even with rough handling. Only wish I had ordered more.

I just received my order from Crownsville and can't believe the size and health of the plants! My Salvia guaranitica are just gorgeous and the Rudbeckia occidentalis are huge! Their prices are great and they don't kill you on shipping unlike a lot of other places. The plants were perfectly packaged and there wasn't one broken leaf to be found. I only wish I had ordered more from them. In fact, I am going back on the web site now to look for more! Definitely recommend!!!

I received my first order from Crownsville Nursery yesterday and was extremely pleased with the packing and the quality of the plants that arrived. I was especially pleased with the size of the Verbascum "Caribean Crush" plants and the Astilbe "Vision" plants...huge plants! This nursery truly offers a unique variety of quality plants at reasonable prices. They also offer free shipping for orders over $200. I have ordered from MANY mail order nurseries in the past and I am adding Crownsville to my short list of favorites. I will certainly order from them in the future.

I ordered from this company last year and was so pleased with their plants and the condition of them upon arrival that I ordered again this year. The selection of new and rare ferns that they offer is the best that I found through diligent searching. It is not a surprise to me that they have a perfect rating here and the high praise from all their online customers is what prompted me to order last year. I give the HIGHEST positive rating possible to this company in all ways and plan on ordering from them annually. You have more than earned my loyalty.

I really like this company. Everything about them is first rate. Back in January I placed an order for spring delivery and then several weeks ago found they carried a specific fern I wanted. I just placed another order on the website not really thinking that I could add on to my previous order because I didn't create an account with them on my first order. Two days later I got an email stating they combined both of my orders so I would save on shipping. Very nice.

My plants just arrived today and they look great. They were packed so carefully there was not one broken branch or leaf. Their shipping costs were so reasonable I didn't expect the plants to be packed with such care. The plants themselves were about twice the size I expected and healthy.

Best plants I ever received.

Spring 2004. This is my first time ordering from this company. I can say without hesitation I will be ordering from them again. The hydrangeas I received are basically the healthiest looking plants I have ever received by mail order. Also, the packaging job was first rate. They used a strong box that fit what was being sent perfectly, so nothing could jostle around in the box. And they supported the top with bamboo stakes to protect the plants. Each plant was further protected with straw around the base. Needless to say they arrived in beautiful condition. I really get upset when mail order businesses do a poor job with packing or use environmentally unfriendly materials. Crownsville should get an award for intelligent packing, environmentally clean packaging, and beautiful specimens.

We ordered a lot of perennials from them for the first time this year. I am very pleased except for one issue....2 plants were backordered and would've thought they had all their winter orders ready to go by spring but, alas, i guess not. HOWEVER, the plants that did come were very good size and we are impressed by the root and plant growth. everything is in the ground and we have new growth appearing so...........all in all very good and would definitely recommend. now if i can just get these other 2 delivered all would be well.......... :)

I ordered a large number of plants, mostly salvias, from Crownsville Nursery last year. All the plants arrived in excellent health and each was carefully packaged.

I just ordered 6 laceleaf hydrangea varieties from Crownsville. I received them promptly, they were healthy with vigorous growth, well packed, and the prices and shipping costs were reasonable. I am very favorably impressed and will order from them again.

I've ordered from them twice in 2 years and both times received good-sized plants that were very well packed and took off immediately after planting. One exception was a Salvia that arrived wilted and then died within a couple of days. When I called about it, the man I spoke with remarked that it was odd, he'd never known one to do that before. But he did credit my MasterCard for the dead plant. I would order from them again.

An excellent company. Print-only catalog, photos online of almost all items. This is my 2nd year of ordering, and I have been more than satisfied. This year I took advantage of some of their 'specials', and ordered coreopsis 'Limerock Ruby' and gaura l.'Crimson Butterflies' at '3 for' pricing. I was amazed to receive plants that were as large or larger than those from good local nurseries- I mean these were in 5-6" pots, and stems 8-12" high, and bushy at that. I also ordered some tender/tropical items for container gardening, and those were also very nice, though not as large. They promptly sent a notice that they were out of one item, sent an acknowledgement, and shipped on time, well-packed. Prices are moderate to high, but the specials were a bargain for what they sent.

This was my first time ordering from Crownsville, but it certainly won't be my last. I just received my shipment today and each and every plant was large, lush and very carefully packaged. I don't have them in the ground yet, but if they fail to grow, I know it will be due to something I did wrong because these plants are HEALTHY. Thank you, Crownsville.

In September 2002, I made my first ordere from Crownsville. I am very pleased with just about every plant I ordered. My echinacea and hardy geraniums are thriving this spring. I was very please with the condition and size of these plants. My only disappointment was the condition of some Limerock Ruby coreopsis, which looked a little ragged and ultimately did not survive. Dave from Crownsville did offer a prompt refund for these plants. I will definitely order from Crownsville again!

Have used this company for years. Plants are consistently healthy, packaging excellant, and sizes are much better than what you normally receive via mail. Recommended!

I ordered 5 different types of coleus plants from Crownsville in Feb 2002. Plants arrived in excellent condition and thrived beautifully till frost. They have an
extensive selection of coleus. I will order from them again.

Medium to large plants (subtropicals were ordered), reasonable prices, fair packing. Good experience, would order again.

I have ordered for several years. The plants are very healthy, good-sized, and packaged especially well. A good source for Hosta and Coleus, among others.

The plants are the best quality and condition that I have received from on-line nurseries. I look forward to each delivery -- the plants so healthy and well packed. The prices are not cheap, but "you get what you pay for." Their responses to e-mail inquires are always prompt. I'll use them again.

I ordered several hostas from Bridgewood Gardens. This is on the internet linked with Crownsville and on-line ordering is possible. The plants arrived well packed with no errors. The majority were in pots and were a good size. They appear to be growing well. Prices are competitive. I made a comparison of about 50 or so hosta types and compared individual prices for several good quality nurseries; this nursery often had the best price with good quality. The gentleman who runs this part of the nursery, Chick, answers e-mail inquiries quickly and efficiently. The selection is enormous, and many are pictured on the internet site. Crownsville has a hydrangea collection, also pictured on the internet.

I have been ordering many plants this past year or two, since I have drastically increased the number of perennial beds in my yard. My experiences are as follows: Crownsville Nursery: Have ordered from them for several years. I always get healthy plants that are well-packed and in good condition. Their prices are good. The catalog offers fairly good descriptions.

Their catalog is very descriptive but their selection is not as extensive as some of the other nurseries. Perhaps their limited selection is why their quality and service are outstanding. I've ordered from them several times and have been impressed with the quality and vigor of the plants and their packaging.

Wanted add comments about Crownsville Nursery and its associated retail outlet Bridgewood Gardens. I have ordered from them for several years. I have NEVER received plants in better condition with such care in packing - I have been consistently pleased with this nursery ... and the people working there are nice too!

Crownsville offers the best packed plants in the business. The quality is also very high. They also grow the plants found in the Winterthur catalog.

I have had good luck ordering perennials and woody plants from Crownsville Nursery, MD. Their catalog is informative, although no illustrations appear. They send supplements periodically that offer specials and close-outs.
