Comments regarding Pinetree Garden Seeds

Pinetree is my favorite seed catalogue. Their seed is inexpensive and high quality, good variety, good germination, and their growing instructions are easy to understand. Their delivery is prompt, and packaging is appropriate. I especially like that they offer smaller packets of seeds for a reduced price--I have no need for the larger quantities offered by so many seed companies.

I have been ordering the bulk of my vegetable and annual flower seeds from this company for years, and will continue to do so. (I have already received my order for 2003.)

This year, I also bought some "last chance" bulbs at a greatly reduced price, several were not viable, but most are thriving.

I am impressed with Pinetree, overall.

Out of all the many mail-order plant & seed companies that I have dealt with over the past ten years, Pine Tree Seeds is the best! I've only had one back order and it arrived five days later. I normally send my orders in January and receive them back in 5-7 business days. The seeds have a high-germination rate and in general, the price is wonderful. I love the concept of smaller amounts of seed (I don't need to archive extra seed!) at a smaller price.

Over the past 14 years, this company has allowed me to experiment with more different types of vegetables than any other. The lower prices helped greatly when I was going to college and could not otherwise afford to spend alot on gardening. In the beginning, I could only afford around $7 which still bought 12 packets of seed - don't forget prices were less back then...

Now, their selection allows me to try 2 packets of vegetables for the price of 1 huge packet from their competitors. The price per seed is about the same as other companies, but I get to try twice as many varities. This is especially valuable when you want to try something new.

Most importantly, Pintree Garden seeds spawned my interest in growing different vegetables, learning that rack packs are not all that there is in the world. It is this that eventually led me to explore Seed Savers Exchange, perhaps the most important organization in the country for the general public. (The germplasm repositories around the country also do an excellent job)

I had germination problems with a seed packet and asked to have them replaced-this company was perfect-replaced the seeds with NO QUESTIONS asked and I had good luck with the new order.

It is also much easier to experiment with funky varieties because the cost is so reasonable!!

Gee, maybe things have changed. Over a decade ago I had my worst mail order experience ever with this company. Herb seeds were mislabeled--came up wrong species, wrong cultivar--didn't match the description in any way. Tulip bulbs listed as crimson/red came out pink/lavender. None of this was discernible until after germination, so it was particularly frustrating. Also, the germination rates on some seeds--I particularly remember lettuces--we so low as to make me think the seeds were several years old. It got me so angry that I cannot even look at their catalog cover without my blood boiling.

I absolutely love this company. I like the fact that the seed packets are of smaller size so that I can affordably try out different varieties. They are always prompt with their shipping and I ordered easily from their website. They have a large variety of both vegetable and flower seeds. This is the second year I have ordered from them and I am very pleased!

This is currently my favorite seed catalog. I have been using them for the past five or six and have had only positive experiences. I did receive the wrong packet of seeds in an order one year, but the error was quickly corrected with a single email. Pinetree offers a broad variety of seeds and prices are always the lowest around. The packets are smaller than many other companies, but I still usually end up with a lot of seed left over each year.

I have noticed that Pinetree tends to stick with "tried and true" varieties of seed, so I occasionally need to go to other sources for newer cultivars.

I've ordered from these folks for about the last 15 years. They offer some unique varieties, though their selection isn't quite as great as some other categories. The catalog is also a good read, written by an owner who isn't afraid of his opinions and refreshingly devoid of exclamation points. Mostly, their prices are the best around, not only on seeds but on supplies as well. They also have an interesting collection of books and kitchen supplies as well, sometimes at fire sale prices.

One word of caution: as others have noted, order early. This spring an order I placed in January was received in days, while a late February order took over a month. I've had this problem in past years as well.

Based on the Garden Watch Dog top rating for Pinetree, I decided to order my seeds online less than one week ago. They arrived today in a padded envelope via regular U.S. Postal service. The directions are printed on the seed packets, and every packet has the company sastifaction guarantee on back. The prices seemed extremely reasonable, and I especially like the bargains.

I ordered softneck garlic, egyptian onions, and a variety of seeds from them. I have placed at least 6 orders and I have been happy with every single one. The garlic was huge, beautiful and the best quality. They are on the top of my list for any future orders.

I've been ordering from Pinetree for four years, and have always had great germination rates, reliable delivery, and prompt and curtious customer service. They're prices are great, I love the qty of seed -- I'm not innundated with tons of extra seed every year. My only hope is that they will someday offer a greater variety of heirloom veggies.

I have never had good luck starting plants from seeds. However, almost all of the seeds I ordered from Pinetree Gardens sprouted and flourished. I love to grow a lot of different varieties, so the small packets at reasonable prices was a great draw. I highly recommend this company.

I love this company! I rarely need large quantities of a single seed, so I appreciate their smaller packet sizes (and smaller prices). Their seeds are excellent quality with fabulous germination rates ( even after I misplaced a packet for 2 years they all came up). I have also ordered seed starting materials and prices and selection is great. I don't miss the glossy catalog - I already get too many of those - I do appreciate their sense of humor. A great "internet find". They have a customer for life!

I've been ordering seeds from Pine tree for about 6 years. Last year I ordered in February and had a TERRIBLE time getting them to fill my order. I finally told them to ship overnight and I paid dearly for that option but at least I got the seeds before summer. I recommend ordering ASAP after the first of year to get seeds on time. This year I had a problem with their kohlrabi (white vienna) going to seed before it formed bulbs. I also planted Territorial Seed at the same time and didn't have that problem. Now I question if it was the seed since all were planted in the same area and same conditions. I have highest praise for their quality of seed, prices but I now realize that I need to order very early or pay the consequences.

My first time ordering this year and I had multiple backorders (which I had to call about twice to receive) and instead of getting pod peas I got snap peas. I guess I was the "unlucky one"!!

I have ordered seeds from Pinetree for 3 years, each time I got what I ordered and it arrived when they said it would. But the best thing is 1. low prices and 2. very good selection of seeds. I will continue to order from them each year.

Wow! Only $1.50 to ship 1 or 100 packets (or more) of seeds how can you go wrong?? and $2.95 for gardening product shipping, how can they do it? I've been buying seeds here for years and Pinetree is number one in my book. Great germination and great selection. I always check out the competition, but Pinetree always gets my order.

Excellent mail order company for vegetable seeds. Top notch customer service, excellent germination rates, low prices. I have found that you have to ask for the catalogue yearly, but I imagine that this helps them keep their costs in check, and prices low. The catalogue is a treat to read, not least because it dispenses with the gaudy photos and Hollywood descriptions that other, more expensive seed companies tend to employ. I hope they realize that they have a winning formula.

Out of all the mail-order companies, Pinetree is simply the best I have ever gotten seeds from. I order early in January and have always gotten my seeds within a week. I have never had to take a "substitute" Germination rates are the highest I have ever had for all their vegetables, including carrots.

My only wish is that they provided their tiny seed in smaller envelopes has anyone ever tried to find (much less separate) lobelia seed in a regular packet?

Absolutely the best seed dealer around. Excellent assortments, honest descriptions. You'll find what few bulbs they sell are just as choice as their seeds. A+ all the way!

beat, they always ship within a week, and the seed quality
is near perfect - I've never had a poor germination rate
for anything. Their catalogue is my favorite, too. While
it doesn't contain thousands of full-color pictures, it's
charming, informative, and in itself a fun read. I would
recommend Pinetree to anyone.

I have ordered from many seed companies (Parks, White Flower Farm, etc. and I must say that Pinetree is far most the best. I started seedlings inside being I live in the Northeast and had a 100% germination. Not only on one packet of seeds but whatever I received from them is absolutely growing beautifully. The price, customer service, germination rates, selection, etc.. you cannot go wrong. I truly recommend them and I have also told them how happy I have been with their seeds.

Have ordered from Pinetree by catalog for many years and have been very pleased. Ordered from their website this year and struggled getting the order in and correct. I think this is a contract ordering program and it is among the least user friendly. Conclusion: great seeds, good prices, order from the catalog or by phone.

Wonderful company. Have ordered from them frequently since 1982 and have never had a problem. They've substituted a couple of times when seed I ordered was no longer available, using a similar product, and I've always been pleased with their shipping practices/times, packaging (both of products and for shipment), and basically everything. I get a ton of catalogs every year from various companies, and I can honestly say I make my list of what I want/need, and check into Pinetree first for the actual purchases. 99% of my annual seed money goes to them, and they are well worth it. Packets are sized just right for the home gardener, with more seeds of things you grow lots and lots of (like beans and peas) and less for things that produce abundantly with few plants (like squash and tomatoes). Excellent company, friendly service.

I start planning my gardens (vegetable and flower) each winter. Gives me plenty to look forward to come Spring. I have had phenomenal luck with Pinetree Gardens' seeds (great germination rates, interesting varieties, SAMPLE-SIZE PACKETS! -how many places do THAT??) and I've ordered many of their books as gifts for friends as well. They're courteous, prompt and accurate. What more can I ask for?

If there is a seed company out there, I've bought from them and this place is the very best.
The prices are low and, in many cases, so are the numbers of seeds, which is fine. They are simply the best source I've found for northern-grown anything.
By mistake a couple years ago I ordered two packs of seeds for echinacea(purple coneflower). One was from Pinetree, one from somewhere else at a couple dollars more.
Guess what? Pinetree did fine. It's never done anything else for us here in northern New York.

Don't expect much from their catalogue in the way of visuals. The black-and-white, crowded formatting is a bit of a strain and I wish they'd work that out. Good seed at a good price. Getting them to send their catalogue on an annual basis has been somewhat of a chore, so I just did not bother with them this year.

Finally found a seed company I'm happy with. Great selection, easy ordering online, fast shipping and great prices. Just placed my second order this season.

This is my second year to order seeds from Pinetree. I ordered on the internet, and got them within a week. I think thre prices are the best I've found, and selection is very good. I ordered seeds, plants, and reading material from them. I will let you know how they do on the plants and bulbs. The only thing that surprised me was that I ordered from all three of their catagories, on line, and am being charged shipping individually for all three catagories, and I was unaware of this online. I still think they are the best, however, they've got to cover costs somehow.

I ordered a bunch of different seeds this winter, and the germination rating is being excellent. They came packed in small envelopes, and some of them in tiny tubes, very handy. I ordered through the web page without problems, it was working.

Very satisfied with seed, service, and catalog descriptions. I like the prices too, and the chance to buy smaller packets.

I bought many different seeds, both vegetable and flower seeds. I also bought gardening supplies from Pinetree. I was very satisfied with what I received and saved money - the same seeds were usually more expensive at other mail order companies. I will use Pinetree again.

This has become the catalog that I look forward to every winter. The prices are great! making it easy to experiment. I have had a very good rate of return from their seeds.

I thought to buy seeds from this company... The botanical names were wrong many places and in the last form where I could see what I had added to my shopping basket I could only see English names.

The postage would have been 5 $ to here, and I asked can they send it by just normal letter. No way...

Also I said that I would like to buy f.ex. these seeds and they thought I mean Fedex.

Anyway, pretty good seeds they seem to have and others like them so I would give neutral. :)

Having been a loyal customer for the past eleven years, I recommend them to every gardener I know. Seed quality and selection are tops and they are one of the very few companies with realistic shipping prices. Other merchants want up to $4.00 to ship an ounce of seed packets, Pinetree does it for a get real price of $1.95. Their shipping on garden supplies is an absolute bargain. Don't know how they do it, but I love these guys! One of the best seed outfits around.
