Comments regarding Trans-Pacific Nursery (WorldPlants.com)

I had a shipping problem which was swiftly resolved (damadged plants replaced VERY promptly). It was not their fault as the pots had been SEWN to a heavy cardboard backing; the box must have undergone a violent adventure! The site is a bit eccentric, and they stress that you not call (you won't get anyone. An email is the way to go.) The site has a lot of images which are useful; there is a lot of good info there too. It is also entertaining; I have read it for some time without buying anything! They have many unique items impossible to obtain elsewhere; I will certainly use them again.

Very good doing business with them!! They have a good variety of plants and good prices. Both times I've ordered, the plants have been a little small, but none the less healthy. I recently ordered about 8 or 9 plants, including 5 different Jap. maples. The order was shipped timely and all the plants arrived in great shape but one. I e-mailed him and within a week (4 days, actually) I had a replacement which was in fine condition. Hey, accidents happen and this guy knows how to handle them!! I will definitely keep him in mind for future ordering!!

They have so many intersting and hard to find plants! I love their selection! My order came in one week and I'm really happy with my new 'babies'!

I think mail order nursery shopping rarely gets much better than this place! I just received the most beautiful shipment! They have a wonderful packing system - they actually sew the plants to the base of the box by threading twine through the pots. This eliminates the need for packing material which can badly crush some plants. The prices are more than reasonable in price, especially since they are growing in much larger pots than one ordinarily gets from a mail order for perennials and woodies. I ordered over the internet and shipping was within 2 wks. I do wish they had a substitution place on their order form, but that is just a tiny thing compared the enormously interesting selection of high quality plants, promptly shipped and beautifully packed!

I have also used their world plant finder in the past to find a particularly rare bulb. They promptly did a search of their resources and found a source for the plant! This is a free service - and so gives an indication of how absolutely wild these guys are about collecting plants and keeping up with what's going on in the plant world.

I have ordered plants and seed several times from World Plants and gotten great service and excellent quality for my money. The orders are packed well and all have made the trip from Oregon to Georgia with no problems at all. They are great people to deal with and will also help you find plants that they don't offer. World Plants is my favorite source for unusual and hard to find plants.

Very good nursery to do mail order business with. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful with japanese maples. I ordered 8 varieties at very reasonable prices for 2 year old bare roots (you generally only get these if you order during the winter, otherwise you get plants that have just been grafted). The plants were in excellent shape when received. They have a large number of difficult to find perennials, grasses, and woody plants at reasonable prices. Very pleasurable to do business with them.

Another satisfied customer here. Very nice plants, excellent selection and great service. Highly recommend them for those who want to push the zonal envelope; you can get a healthy small specimen of something you'd like to try very inexpensively and see what happens.

Trans-Pacific is a nursery specializing in rare and exotic plants. Among other things, they have a large variety of Japanese maples (acer palmatum, more than I knew existed), and a number of cold-hardy eucalyptus (for us transplanted Californians). The owner makes periodic collecting trips to China, working with the Kunming Institute of Botany in Yunnan. The results of these trips, both small plants and seeds, are available from the nursery. Plants are all shipped in pots, not bare root. If you live in the Portland, Oregon, area, you can pick up your plants in person at the Beaverton Farmers' Market if desired. I've purchased about a dozen plants from Trans-Pacific. All have arrived in excellent condition. (Note that I picked them up in person, though, since the nursery is local to me.) Plants are typically small, but they're also inexpensive: $3-$4 for most. This is a small nursery, and the items in stock seem to vary constantly. It works both ways though: they may be out of stock on some items in the catalog, but they also often have items that aren't in the catalog at all yet (such as new varieties under trial and seeds). They've always been responsive to my email questions.

This company has great service. My order was filled correctly and quickly. I ordered online after getting a simple catalog from them. There was one item that was not available and they told me of it and deducted the amount prior to charging my card. Their catalog has no pictures only descriptions. So you need to have an idea of what you are ordering.
