I ordered almost $200 worth of bulbs from them and it took a long time for their products to arrive. Two orders of the Gloxinia collection arrived dried out and moldy, the butterfly bush was tiny, had diseased foliage, and is refusing to grow in good soil with organic fertilizer.

We've been having nice, sunny weather this spring, and I insulate with row covers when the nights get chilly.

The ornamental grasses collection came as tiny, half dead plants that are also refusing to grow. The only exception are the blue fescue, which are doing o.k. The lemon queen helianthus package had only wood shavings in it, no bulbs, and I looked thru every shaving.

The ranunculus bulbs came with misleading planting instructions that had me planting them upside down, resulting in a loss of most of the plants. The last time I unpotted many of my plants to check for growth on the bulbs, I felt deeply disappointed with my Dutch Gardens products and vowed never to order from them again.

Did I receive lower quality bulbs because of the $20 per order discounts that they were offering on their website?

I emailed them with some my complaints and, to their credit, they responded quickly, but I guess my replacements are coming from Holland because they're taking forever to arrive and have been coming piecemeal.

I've been ordering from Dutch Gardens for about 20 years, even in the early days where I collected orders from friends and received 10% of the sales I collected good towards my own selections. Sadly, they don't do this anymore. I still order every year and have been extremely happy with the high quality bulbs, daylilies, and tall phlox. I've tried many bulbs and they have been consistent in quality and top size. No complaints here! Will continue to buy from Dutch Gardens, hopefully for another 20 years! A+++++

I have ordered a couple of times from Dutch Gardens and have been very pleased. Everything has grown well. One daffodil I ordered was the wrong color, but they were great about replacing it. I contacted them by email and got a response immediately. I also think it is really nice that they email you when an order has been shipped so that you have some idea of when to look for it.

I had ordered from them at the end of March, and recieved my order yesterday. I was very concerned with the length of time my plants were in a box being shipped, however customer service assured me that they were in a climate controlled ship on their way over here...they also assured me that if there was anything wrong with my order, they would refund my money or send replacements. Thankfully everything was in perfect shape, green and healthy. I had ordered 6 Hellebores plants (cant ever get enough of em') and a waterlily. I am placing an order today from them for bulbs, as they sent me an offer I can't refuse...25.00 worth of free bulbs with purchase of 25.00...dont really have a place for them, but they look beautiful and I can't resist

I have ordered perennials and bulbs from Dutch Gardens many times, and I have been extremely satisfied. The tulips I ordered from them last fall are now blooming and absolutely magnificent. The only hassle is that sometimes it can take a while for plants to arrive, since they ship from the manufacturer, but they are worth the wait.

Wonderful customer service, I had some bulbs that did not preform well and when I emailed them about it I was issued a refund within 2 days. This was my first with having bulbs from Dutch Gardens that were not up to my expectations. I have ordered bulbs from them for about 9 years. Always top size bulbs. Their prices are a little spendy but they do have good sales now and then and smetimes free shipping.

I have ordered bulbs and bareroot perennials from Dutch Gardens. The bulbs seem to be good. The bareroot perennials came tiiiiiinneeeeeeee. I mean, like 3 roots. I'm waiting to see if they come up. I did have two bareroot peonies that are up and healthy and one is blooming already after only a few months. Only problem is it isn't the one I ordered. *eyeroll* I did call and recieve a refund though (they offered to replace it). Customer service was excellent.

Wonderful customer service. These days I seem to be finding this less and less with mail order companies and have decided customer service is worth more than bargain prices.
One batch of tulips I purchased last fall are beautiful, but not the right color (all the other items from my order and fine and growing well). My e-mail was answered in less than a day with the promise of replacement or credit (my choice). I was also provided with helpful suggestions in answer to questions about problem areas in my yard.

I ordered perennials from this company. I felt their prices were a bit high, but they had some rare items I was interested in. I was satisfied with some of the root systems I received, but a couple of the more pricey flowers were very, very small, and I am concerned as to whether they will survive. I probably will not order from them again. Just not worth the price.

LAST FALL I ORDERED A HUGE SHIPMENT OF BULBS FROM THIS COMPANY (400 DAFFODILS & 150 GLORY OF SPRING COLLECTION). I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE SIZE OF THE DAFFODIL BULBS. THEY WERE THE LARGEST I HAVE EVER SEEN. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO THEY STARTED COMING UP AND AS FAR AS I CAN TELL ALL HAVE CAME UP
AND THEY ARE PERFORMING VERY WELL. THE GLORY OF SPRING COLLECTION OF BULBS ARE STARTING TO PERFORM VERY WELL ALSO. THIS WILL PROBABLY BE THE ONLY COMPANY I BUY BULBS FROM IN THE FUTURE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

I just received an order for four dahlias, with 3 bulbs in each package, and they all look great. Last year I had ordered from a different company; the dahlias were very nice quality, but I only got one in each packet for the same price as Dutch Gardens sell theirs. These are larger and generally better looking. The tubers came as promised, near the correct planting time for my area, and in a very sturdy and substantial box with airholes in it for the health of the tubers. They were packed in perforated plastic bags with the name and description of each variety and a little planting advice on each packet. There was included a little bulb booklet with directions and tips on successful planting for almost any type of bulb or tuber available.

I have previously ordered from Dutch Gardens and have never had a problem or been dissatisfied. However, there is a no-risk guarantee printed right on their invoice/packing list that states should a customer have a complaint; a full refund, replacement or exchange will be given. With a customer policy like that, one should definitely take a chance with Dutch Gardens!

Just don't confuse these postings with another company with a similar name. Its called 'Royal Dutch Gardens', and is NOT affiliated with this company Dutch Gardens or Gardeners Supply. Royal Dutch Gardens is part of Plantron and has a very poor rating as do most of the other affiliated companies of which Four Seasons, House of Wesley, and a few others are associated with. Look at the listings under Plantron for further info. This company, Gardeners Supply is based in VT, while the Plantron outfits seem to be based in Bloomington IL. Gardeners Supply has always treated me well, and have given prompt refunds should you have any problems.

Just an FYI..

Have been satisfied with their bulbs--quality and size are usually pretty good and success rate is high. A large perennial order I placed 2 years ago was a disaster. At least half of the plants were mislabeled and I received varieites that I did not want. Other plants were missing from the order. I wrote a detailed letter to customer service and my money was promptly refunded. Will not order perennials again but may order bulbs again in the future.

We order both tulips and dahlias from this company and have been quite satisfied with the results of both. We have been less satisfied with the more unusual summer bulbs and have been displeased with the quality of their perennials which are usually shipped bare-root in bags & with high mortality.

We were pleased to discover that this company is now based in Vermont and they now have an excellent customer service department. You get to speak to a real person & they were willing to accomodate a special shipping date which the company has been unwilling to do in the past. We still shy away from purchasing "bare root Dutch grown" perennials however.

I order from this company annually. (In my garden, tulips need to be replaced about every third year.) I have had good luck with tulips and daffodils. Bulbs are big and arrive in good time for planting. However, I have learned to stay away from the minor bulbs since I have had mostly bad luck. I think the problem is our area, however, since I don't see this things growing in other gardens either.

Last fall was the first year I ordered from Dutch Gardens. My quail narcissus did great, they're still producing buds and have been flowering for over 3 weeks now. The giant crocuses did well, so didn't the dogtooth violets and greigii tulips. I put in 40 of the appledorn and olympic flame and only half flowered. Several buds on these withered and turned brown. Some produced lots of leaves but no buds. I'm not sure if it's something I did or if the quality of the bulbs was poor so I called Dutch Gardens and they credited my credit card for the full amount that I paid for the hybrid tulips. So I certainly can't complain about the service, they did stand by their guarantee. I will probably try the tulips again, but will order another type to see if I have any better luck.

I am very frustrated with Dutch Gardens. When they changed computer systems in 2001, they got my 2000 payment information completely messed up. This resulted in bills appearing out of nowhere over a year after I received their merchandise. Also, some of the perennials I ordered in 2001 did not grow. I agree their catalog is luscious and prices are low, but merchandise I ordered from White Flower Farm grew much more reliably!

I've been ordering from Dutch Gardens for years and have been impressed with the good prices and the nice size of the bulbs. In the Fall of 2001, though, the catalog suddenly reverted to erroneous hardiness listings that they had corrected many years ago. All the tulips were listed optimistically as Zone 3, no daffodil or narcissus was listed at higher than Zone 4, Eranthis, oxalis, English bluebells, and Grecian Windflowers (certainly Zone 5 or 6) were listed as Zone 3. Anemone coronaria, ranunculus, calochortus, cyclamen, and ixia, which are very tender, were listed as Zone 4. I decided not to order anything, since that sort of sloppiness, when the previous year's catalog had given correct information, suggested a big fall-off in quality.

They were all received in a timely manner, well-packed, and in excellent condition. Dutch Gardens has the best catalogue around, and their prices are very low for the quality of items offered. This year I ordered my spring flowering bulbs from Dutch Gardens. My Dutch Garden order came two weeks ago and I was able to take advantage of the great warm weather to dig up places for the HUMONGOUS bulbs that came for the tiny, blooming daffodil collections. The bulbs were larger than expected for the daffodils; all the others looked very healthy and of good size. Each pack came with a colorful picture of the flower on the sack, complete with great planting instructions, that when combined with the wonderful catalog, gives more than adequate information for the placement, bloom times, and moisture requirements of the different bulbs. If I have any more space, I would definitely order from them again. The biggest savings is in time and travel. You don't have to go all over town checking out nurseries or other suppliers like the Big Box stores. So you can design your garden additions and then just order. And Dutch Gardens sends you a confirmation card so you recheck your order.

I was very disappointed with the perennials I received. One out of six Siberian Iris grew, the Solomon's Seal was a bust, so was the hosta. White Bleeding Heart was blooming within two weeks. I think the biggest problem was the amount of time it took for my order to get to me, by the time it arrived the plants were mostly moldy. And the Siberians were the smallest things I have ever planted. I currently have a credit and I am going to purchase bulbs ONLY. I was very disappointed as their catalog is great.

Guess I'm the only one with bad luck from Dutch Gardens. Ordered large amount of bulbs approx 5 years ago - was almost a complete failure, whileTulips, daffodils, and crocuses bought locally were a spectacular sight.Company was excellent on giving complete refund. Two years ago sent in another large order along with a friend (who can resist the pictures in a beautifully illustrated catalog?), some tulip bulbs showed signs of mold but were firm and planted anyway. A friend received two bags of mush, which were replaced so late in the season our ground had already frozen. Next spring had 5 out of 30 fringed tulips bloom, only half of mywhite and pink tulips came up and bloomed and not one of 60 yellow tulips showed an appearance. And yet again the locally bought tulips which were planted in nearby beds of the exact same composition and relative location were beautiful. Other bulbs were again a disaster and my friend fared worse than I with hers. Yes we live in a high mountain valley, but when cheap local varieties outdo dutch gardens we won't be ordering from them again soon. Still love looking through their catalog if only…
